Day 54 is 15 minutes running, 2 minutes walking, 2 sets in total. Thirty-four minutes, 30 of them running, with a 2-minute walk in the middle. Two days before the 5K, this is the final long session, and it comes with more recovery than last Sunday's version.
Thirty minutes of running in two halves, with a full 2-minute walk between them, is the program's way of keeping the legs moving at volume without draining them before the final day. You ran this same total with a 1-minute walk on Day 49; the extra minute today is deliberate. Use both 15-minute pieces to practise exactly the pace you intend to run on Day 56 - steady, controlled, and with something left at the end.
Hold your 5K pace through both pieces and resist any urge to push. Walk the 2 minutes briskly, breathing deeply, and begin the second run on time. Short quick steps, light landings, relaxed shoulders, steady breathing - everything you have practised, one more time before it counts.
Two fifteen-minute pieces, two days out - the last long session is a rehearsal, not a test.
Make it Harder: Run the final 3 minutes of the second set at a stronger pace than the rest.
Make it Easier: Add a 1-minute walk at the midpoint of each 15-minute piece and keep the 2-minute walk between sets.
