This is the privacy policy for DAREBEE (darebee.com) and our web app. DAREBEE is a non-profit registered in the UK and is the data controller for anything described here. We are a small team and this policy is written in plain language on purpose. If anything is unclear, ask us.
The short version
We don't want your data. We don't run ads, we don't sell or rent information to anyone, we don't send marketing emails, and we don't use tracking pixels or advertising trackers. The site is built so that almost everything you do on it stays in your own browser. The only information we hold about you as a person is what you choose to send us, and we keep that only for as long as we need it.
What stays in your browser
All of your progress tracking is stored locally on your device, in your browser's storage (localStorage), not on our servers. This includes your activity log and streak, workouts you've marked as done, program and challenge progress, bookmarks, fitness test results, onboarding quiz answers, dashboard settings and layout, your review picks and the list of items you've asked us not to suggest again, and the supporter flag if you tell us you've donated. We cannot see any of it. It never leaves your device unless you use the Backup feature, which downloads a file to your own computer that you control.
Because it lives in your browser, it is per device and per browser: your phone and your laptop don't share progress unless you move a backup file between them. Clearing your browser data, or using "Reset All" in the dashboard, deletes it and we cannot restore it.
A couple of older features still use browser cookies for the same purpose (saving your place in a plan or quest). These are functional cookies that only the site reads. The dashboard has a "Clean up old cookie data" option if you'd like to remove leftovers from the old cookie-based tracking system.
What we count on our servers
When you press "Done" on a workout, program, challenge or the exercise of the day, or vote in the quick review buttons, our server adds one to a counter for that item. That is all it records: a number per item, sometimes per day, so we can show how many people have done something and what's popular this week, month or year. There is no account, no user ID and no IP address attached to those counts. We can't tell which people pressed the button, only how many times it was pressed.
What you send us
Contact form and email: if you write to us, we get your email address and whatever you tell us. We use it to reply to you and for nothing else, and we don't share it with anyone outside DAREBEE unless doing what you asked requires it. We delete contact emails once the matter is resolved, or after a year at the latest.
Community reviews: reviews you submit are public once we've moderated them and appear on the site with the name you chose to give. Please don't put personal details in a review (we will remove it before publishing). If you want a review edited or removed, contact us and we'll take care of it.
Bug reports: the Report a Bug form is anonymous by design. It has no name or email field and we don't log where a report came from. If you type personal information into a report, we'll remove it before publishing the fix.
The forum (The Hive): our community forum runs at community.darebee.com on XenForo software and requires an account you create yourself. Your username and posts are public. Your email address is used only to run your account (password resets and, if you turn them on, notifications). You can delete your account at any time by asking us - we action it with no questions asked within 24 hours.
Donations
Donations reach us through PayPal, Stripe, Donorbox, Wise or direct bank transfer. Card and account details are handled entirely by those services under their own privacy policies; we never see or store card numbers. What we receive is what the service passes on to us, usually your name, email address and the amount, and in the case of bank and Wise transfers, whatever your bank shows on the transaction. We use this to say thank you and to keep the accounts. As a registered non-profit we have to keep financial records for six years, so donation records stay in our accounts for that long and are not used for anything else. We won't add you to any list or contact you about donating again.
Server logs
Like every website, our web server keeps standard access logs that include the IP address of visitors, the pages requested and the browser used. We use these only for security and to keep the site running (spotting attacks, broken pages, overloaded servers). Logs are kept for 30 days and then deleted automatically.
Analytics
We use Google Analytics to see roughly how many people visit and which pages they read, so we know what to make more of. Google Analytics uses cookies and may process your IP address; we don't link analytics data to anything that identifies you and we don't use it for advertising. You can block it with any standard tracker-blocking browser extension and the site will work exactly the same.
Third parties
Exercise videos are hosted on YouTube. We load them only when you press play, so YouTube sets no cookies and receives nothing from you until you choose to watch a video. Once you play one, YouTube's own privacy policy applies. Fonts are hosted on our own server, so no font provider sees your visit. Share buttons only open the sharing service when you click them. We don't embed anything else from anyone else.
The web app
DAREBEE can be installed as a web app (PWA) from the site. It is the same website in an app frame; it collects nothing extra, stores your progress in the same local browser storage, and can be removed like any other app. We no longer publish apps to the app stores. Anything called DAREBEE or FitTap on an app store is either an old version we no longer maintain or not ours at all, and we can't vouch for what it does with your data.
Your rights
Under UK and EU data protection law you can ask us, at any time, to:
- tell you what data we hold about you, if any, and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- delete it (including your forum account or a review);
- stop or limit how we use it, or object to a particular use;
- hand it over in a portable format.
Just write to us through our contact page. We'll answer within a few days. If you're unhappy with how we've handled your data you can also complain to the UK Information Commissioner's Office (ico.org.uk) or your own country's data protection authority. In practice, most of your data is on your own device and you can see, export or delete it yourself from the dashboard without asking us.
Our legal basis for the small amount of data we do process is: responding to you when you contact us (our legitimate interest in running the site and answering people); running your forum account (the agreement you make when you register); keeping donation records (our legal obligation as a charity); and security logs and analytics (our legitimate interest in keeping the site up and understanding how it's used).
Children
DAREBEE is a general audience site and we don't knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 16. Because we hold so little information in the first place, there is nothing here that requires an age check, but if you believe a child has sent us personal details, tell us and we'll delete them.
Security
The site is served over HTTPS. Anything you send us is stored on our own server, not on third-party services, and only the people who run DAREBEE can access it. There are no accounts on the main site and no passwords to protect, we never ask for your home address, and we never handle payment details ourselves.
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we'll update this page and note the date below. We won't email you about it because we don't have your email. Last updated: August 26, 2026.
