Yet Another Great Choice is a lower body workout that targets the muscles most training plans treat as afterthoughts - the glutes from every angle, the inner thighs, the hip stabilizers and the calves. Wide squats, back leg raises, curtsy lunges, calf raises and side leg raises, ten reps each, no equipment required. The name is not being sarcastic. Well, maybe a little. But it is also accurate.
The exercise selection works the hips through their full repertoire. Wide squats open the session by loading the glutes and inner thighs together in one big movement. Back leg raises then isolate hip extension - the glutes working alone, without the quads helping out. Curtsy lunges cross the midline and force the glute medius to stabilize a diagonal pattern it rarely sees. Calf raises give the hips a moment to recover while the lower legs work, and side leg raises finish the sequence with pure hip abduction - the movement responsible for keeping your pelvis level every time you take a step.
Turn your toes out on the wide squats and drive your knees in the same direction as your feet. On both leg raise variations, move slowly and keep your torso still - if you are swinging or leaning, momentum is doing the work your glutes should be doing. In the curtsy lunge, keep your front knee tracking over your foot even as your back leg sweeps behind.
You could have picked any workout today. Once again, you chose well.
Make it Harder: Add a two-second hold at the top of every leg raise.
Make it Easier: Hold onto a wall or chair for balance during the leg raises.
