Fight Ready is a striking and strength conditioning workout that does exactly what the name implies - it trains the body for the specific demands of fighting: quick upper-body output, single-leg stability under load, lower-body endurance, and the ability to punch while your legs are already burning. Punches, turning kicks, squats, squat hold punches, and a closing isometric hold make up a session that covers functional strength and combat conditioning in a single set structure.
The sequence is deliberately ordered. Punches warm the shoulder girdle and establish rotational mechanics before the turning kicks demand single-leg balance and hip chamber under speed. Turning kicks are technically the most demanding movement here - each rep requires chambering the knee, rotating on the standing foot, extending through the hip, and controlling the return, all of which places high demands on ankle stability, hip mobility, and coordination simultaneously. Squats follow to reload the legs with bilateral strength work, and squat hold punches then combine the two hemispheres of the workout: legs loaded isometrically at the bottom of a squat while the upper body continues generating rapid shoulder output. The 20-count hold at the end keeps the legs in that position after the punches stop, letting the isometric demand run past the point where the movement gives it cover.
On turning kicks, the pivot of the standing foot is not optional - without it, the hip can't fully rotate and the kick loses both range and power while placing torque on the knee. On squat hold punches, sit at or below parallel rather than hovering; a high squat hold is significantly less demanding and reduces the value of the combination.
Ready is a decision made before the moment arrives.
Make it harder: Add a jump to every squat, perform turning kicks at maximum height and speed, and extend the closing hold to 30 counts with 10 squat hold punches added at the midpoint.
Make it easier: Reduce turning kicks to controlled side kicks at comfortable height, perform squats through a partial range if needed, and cut the closing hold to 10 counts.
