Tomorrow is the last day of 8 Weeks to 5k, and I've really enjoyed the program. The gradual progression based on time worked really well for me, and I'd like to continue toward 10k. But there is no 8 Weeks to 10k plan, and I'm a little stuck on where to go next. It looks like Cardio Trim Run would probably get me there, but I really like running on the same days every week and Cardio Trim Run definitely does not fit that mold. I may try it and re-arrange the days to fit my schedule, but I'm not sure if that's a good approach. I also made an 8 Weeks to 10k modeled after 8 Weeks to 5k, but I'm still divided.

I'm doing Cardio Trim Run as a follow up from 8 weeks to 5k, and I have to say I find it challenging. I hate the sprints, and like you I am not in love with the way the days are arranged. Plus, it's definitely not as gradual an increase as 8 weeks to 5k. I struggled with 45 minutes today and next Sunday it's going to be 60... That's quite a steep increase I think. Maybe Runner Prime, to first solidify the 30 minutes run? That's what I'm going to do next.

I think adapting the 8 Weeks to 5k to 8 weeks to 10k is a very good idea. Doubling the distance in 8 weeks is doable. Your goals at the last day of the 2nd, 4th, 6th and 8th week can be something like 6k, 7k, 8k and 10k. Iโ€™d end the odd weeks with a 5k. And Iโ€™d replace one of the run-walk days per week with an interval training or fartlek training of 20 to 25 minutes, to help build speed. Take care to have a light and slow recovery run on the day after your long run.

Thanks so much Anek and AnnieW! Your advice is super helpful for me.

Anek I thought the progression in Cardio Trim Run seemed a bit quick, and you've confirmed it. I've decided not to do it for now.

AnnieW I was struggling with figuring out how to structure the long runs, and your suggestion makes a lot of sense. I'd never heard of farlek training, but it looks kind of fun, so I think I'll incorporate that, too.

I'm sold on doing my own 8 weeks to 10k. Maybe once the weather turns (brutally) hot I can use the running programs and badges for extra motivation to get outside.
