Mike16h5 Training Log (Houston, TX USA)

    06.17.2020

First post; catching up today! Happy to be here. I’m usually not a forum person but I NEED to surround myself with positive people. This journey is way harder when you struggle in silence; no man is an island.

    Current Weight: 221.6lbs
    Goal Weight: 185lbs
    Body Fat: 24.8%
    BF Goal: 15%

    Today’s Completed Workouts:
    - Zero Hero: Level I - Day 13
    - 50 Push-ups: Day 10 (incline)
    - Running: 3.5 miles

I have been consistent with both of them since I started them. I am running about 3 times a week with long runs about every two weeks. Next long run is 11 miles. First half-marathon is scheduled on July 18th.

    Nutrition: Yes

Doing simple calorie counting while working through the menus in Cook Once, Eat All Week. (That’s all the bandwidth I have eating-wise) Will post “Yes/No” if I am within my calorie count.

Anyone have any ideas for getting over insecurity when working out in front of people? The problem is that I feel like a fraud working out so I get trapped in the idea that people are staring. My thoughts go to “Why am I even trying? I’m bad at this.” Clearly, I falsely think the world cares that much about my exercising. I used to use the excuse that exercise wasn’t fun therefore it’s okay to not like it and not have to do it. Tips? I’m hoping the accountability of posting in this training log will light a fire under me!

Hi, and welcome! Glad to have you here

Good going so far, I wish you much success on your journey to your ideal weight (and body fat percentage).

About your question regarding insecurity... I have to admit I don't workout in front of people myself (because, well, I don't really like other people...) but I'm coming from another board that, at times, can be extremely into dragging others down (no idea why, though). Anyway, that question pops up over there a lot, and the common opinion usually is: nobody cares about you. If you go to the gym (for example) and mind the etiquette, nobody will are about what you're doing. On the contrary, someone might even give you tips or help you. There's no reason for you to feel like a fraud, considering how people today gradually shift their mindset into the direction of 'it's okay to let yourself go and don't exercise' it's already a great feat to get off your arse (sorry for language) and try to change something about you. I'm guessing most people that do the same, or are already fit themselves, would respect you for that.
Or, another thought, you can never know what people think of you. Most of the time, not much. Your only way of finding out is by trying and I can pretty much guarantee you that people will either don't care or react positively. Ignore the rest, they're not worth the hassle. Sounds brutal, but self-improvement sometimes puts fear into those that think it's too exhausting.
You already conquered the very hard first step of getting started, so it's pretty much just continuing from now on. I'm pretty sure you'll feel more confident the longer you workout and reap the first rewards (like, feeling better all around, not getting out of breath so fast, you probably get the idea).

Anyway, I hope any of my ramblings made sense to you and you can pull a tiny fraction of advice out of that mess. Don't hesitate to ask around in the Hive if any questions arise, we're a friendly and helpful bunch and want to see you succeed in whatever you want to achieve

        Great start and welcome.

I am old and no longer care what people think about my style or look. Not sure if that helps, lol...just do what you enjoy and agreeing with Nihopaloa, you are HERE and you are training. Very well done

        Enjoy your journey!

Nihopaloa WSMC27 Thanks, y’all! I appreciate the advice and support. I'll keep you posted.

I was excited to get my workout done, just so I could post it online. That's the accountability I want to feel; so far so good.

I used to be very insecure about others seeing me work out too. I still remember the first time I went running in our City Park. I was pacing back and forth in my sister's flat in running gear, debating whether I should really go out.
There's so much traffic in this area, so many people will see me! What if I have to stop to walk after only a few hundred metres? It's going to be humiliating... What about the other runners, the park is always full of them. They will laugh at my super slow, not even jogging pace!
I went out in the end. And the next day too. And the day after that. A year has passed and I don't care anymore.

As Nihopaloa said, you never know what others think of you, so you can't do much about that. You are in control, however, of your own mentality. I wish I had some easy advice, but to me it was really about getting myself used to be seen, day by day, step by step. Look at it as a workout for your mind.

Mianevem Thanks! I like the idea of the workout for your mind. It’s like a muscle, and I have to train it.

                Reached two milestones today:

I worked out for 15 days in a row...got that shiny new badge.

Also, the scale finally went below 220...finally! That has been a intermediate goal since JANUARY (Started at 235lbs). Looking to lose 5lbs a month but never seemed to get under 220. Thanks, Darebee!
