Very sorry to hear about your aunt. I hope she does get better
Congratulations on the reading and the Duolingo streak

        Congrats on your Duolingo streak!
I don't bother reading books that don't grip me. Had enough of having to do that in school! There are so many books out there, why read the bad ones (or the ones that are bad for you)? Unless you're studying, reading should be for enjoyment. Are you enjoying that book? Don't punish yourself.

Sorry to hear that, hopefully things improve.

I am mostly in agreement with TopNotch . I set it as a goal last year to finish as many books as I had started and never finished. I finished some decent books, mostly kind of heavy ones on science but also definitely some that were 1 or 2 stars out of 5 and not really worth the time. You might want to ask yourself if you haven't finished it because it was too heavy or not ready to read it versus it just more or less being rubbish.

Maybe I am the odd one out but a bunch of us here have all added one another on Duolingo. Feel free to share your username if you like. Impressive streak regardless

              Thank you!

I’m typically someone who finishes books regardless. Sometimes it takes me forever to read a book and not because I didn’t like it. One of the books I just finished was like that. Sometimes I can end up liking a book that I just wasn’t into in the beginning. There are a few books that I just can’t finish (I remember The House of the Scorpions being one. I didn’t make it very far). There were many times during the Psycho Trilogy I should have given up on it, but I made it pretty far in and it was just morbid curiosity. I might be having trouble with this one because it’s not at all how I expected it to be. I thought it would be super heartfelt and that’s just not what I’m getting. I do want to see how it ends up.

The books on my currently reading shelf that have been on there forever were classic books/religious texts. I hadn’t been trying to read them all that time, but as my serial reader account is connected to my Goodreads, when I added them early to get more serials (I had the free version at the time) it added them to my shelves. Classic books are always a struggle for me, especially if they’re a lot older, but I manage.

When I first started getting assigned books to read in middle school, I didn’t like it very much. I loved reading but hated being told what to read. The two exceptions during that time were Monster and I Am the Cheese. I really loved those books and I reread them a couple years ago. One of my aversions to the Twilight series when it first came out was a friend constantly asking me if I’d read it yet. Still haven’t, likely will never . But in high school it was different. I still didn’t really like being told what to read, but I was more open to the books. There were some books I really loved (The Devil’s Arithmetic, Of Mice and Men, and Ethan Frome) and some that I couldn’t stand (here’s looking at you, Gatsby*).

*my entire class seemed to love it. Maybe I just had to be different. But I found the characters too whiny and the tragedy of it wasn’t to my liking, and I do love a tragic novel.

Made the mistake of asking my uncle on messenger how everyone was doing. He said okay, then proceeded to CALL ME on messenger . I am NOT a person who enjoys talking on the phone. At all.

Finished all my Christmas stories. I have no idea what I read on most of it, but it’s done. I got rid of Kings, Queens, and In-Betweens, as Wells as a genealogy book. I might retry kings if it ever comes back around on Rivetedlit, and I’ll pick up the genealogy book again later. So that just leaves the two religious texts and You Know Where to Find Me. It will take a while to get through the first two, but I’m going to pick up my normal reading habits again.

It’s starting to get cooler outside now so it is a lot cooler in my attic/library. I’ve got to start working on cleaning/organizing it. It is a mess, but my attic gets too warm if it’s not cold outside and I can’t do anything with it. And then when it is cooler? Usually Fonzie or the cats interfere. Hopefully I can make some progress in it today and reward myself with some movies.

And I’m really looking forward to Thanksgiving. Not because of food, but because of The Beatles documentary that will be released on Disney+!

I keep meaning to do this, but keep forgetting. For those of you who are interested, my Duolingo is PeaceLoveNirvana. If you do follow me, please let me know what your Duo is so I can follow you back.

Uncle called this morning to let us know that my aunt passed away about 15 minutes before. He told us yesterday that she had opened her eyes a few times, so we had been hopeful she’d pull through. Mom called my cousin a few hours later to ask if there was anything they needed and what the situation was going to be. They’re not going to be doing anything until at least next week, so no trips are going to be made at the moment. He told my mom that even though she was opening her eyes, she wasn’t there.

I watched the newest Bo Burnham comedy special last night and had some good laughs. Also discovered my new favorite song.

I was using some rubber bands to hold something in place while the glue dried on the project I’m working on. When I was taking them off and setting them to the side, Gator came over and started playing with one. I let him play with it for a while, since I was watching him the entire time. I shot it across the room for him to chase. He picked it up, tried to run with it, and dropped it. This baby planted his front feet to stop himself and he kind of folded up into himself like an accordion . I laughed harder than I probably should have. Poor little sweetheart! He was completely fine, just maybe a little embarrassed.

Fonzie “helped” make up the bed today. Let him up when only the pillows were left. He likes to put his nose under things and toss them. I said he was fluffing the pillows. Told him he was a good helper. He loves being complimented like that so much. It’s the cutest thing .

Played with the dogs in the backyard for a bit. One of them, Charlie, likes to run around like a madman. Fonzie likes to chase him. Some days he will chase him all the way around the yard. Others, like today, he only chases him a little ways, and he looks like a little old man telling people to get off his lawn. I ended up going out in the yard, squatting down, and holding my arms open for Fonzie. He loves to charge at me. He used to run and jump when he got to me, and I’d have to catch him! Which was so adorable. He doesn’t do that that often anymore because Charlie likes to get in the way. But it’s still adorable seeing him run!
