I was going to start a running programme today (thought I'd give 8 Weeks to 5K a go) but my right leg was a bit sore and I noticed some bruising on the upper calf, which probably occurred after the resumption of running in training this week. I knew I should have kept up with some running. Anyway, resting the legs this weekend (apart from calf stretches and raises, and gentle massage) and giving myself plenty of time to consider what's coming next.
This morning I made my choice. Isn't it funny how you can see some programmes a number of times but suddenly, you look at one, and it seems different and doable? Or maybe it's not the programme that's changed at all but my mindset. A year ago, there were certain exercises that I wouldn't really have considered, and others that I could do but only in very small amounts. Now, however, the exercises I don't consider are things like one-arm push-ups - I'm nowhere near there yet! I can even get myself to do
burpees
if I absolutely have to. Today, for example, I looked at Spartan Trials and thought, hey, that looks great, why haven't I thought of doing that one before? It's just going to have to wait a bit longer though, but now it is on my To-Do list. I really want to do something that has some cardio in it so I'll be starting - ah no, let's wait until I actually start it!
I really enjoy going through the programmes (love the new format, BTW) and realising that there are more that can be on my To-Do list because I am stronger and fitter, and I attribute a good part of that to Darebee. Doing Darebee programmes, challenges and workouts has moved me not only out of my comfort zone but also into zones I've not been in before. I'd never considered pull-ups before, or playing with kettlebells, for example. And of course, this wonderful community of Bees, ever-ready to support and offer advice.
I wanted to start the new programme today but I had told myself that I would rest up my legs this weekend and I made myself do that! Tomorrow will be fine for starting the programme. This week, I don't have training on Monday so it will give me something to look forward to.
Thanks, daejamurrachan but I don't think the count is quite that high!
Day 395
day 25 Fighters' Codex day 1 30 Days of Change I finally decided on this one because it had not only running but other stuff to keep things interesting. The only thing is that I have to look a day or so ahead because I don't want to do any running on Tuesdays and Thursdays (I'll have enough of that at training) so I'll have to swap a day around every now and again. Today was the first running day. I started with 2-min walk, then 2-min run - rinse, repeat another three times, so all up I ran a whole 8 minutes. Good thing I'm not comparing myself with those of you who run marathons and such (I'd love to be able to do that. Not that I would, but I'd love to be able to!), but I'm comparing myself just to me and I thought it was pretty good. Listening to Zombies, Run! did help, of course - that and I'd added some new songs to my playlist.
I thought 30DoC was a good program for the running part and the variety and progression. You’ll like it! Of course I was not running, but doing the elliptical instead, on those days, but it worked well for me
Taekwondo training. Warm-ups were laps of running, then relays with jumping jacks and diver squats, lunges, duck walk - is there anything else that kills the quads that I missed?! Then push-ups to count. Well, not really a count - more an "up....down....up....down". Stretches then punches. Footwork drills - moving forward, moving backward. Then, with partner, kicking drills on pad. When I jokingly lamented that I was better at this without the pad, I was told I was "too poomsae"! Hey, there's a reason I dropped sparring in favour of poomsae!! Really got the sweat running again today.
And how funny/coincidental. I have just noticed that there is a new programme - a running programme!! Probably not something for me just yet, but certainly something to keep in mind....
day 26 Fighters' Codex day 3 30 Days of Change Despite my hopes, I didn't do any running today. Another hour spent in the dentist's chair (she loves me ) does not incline one to indulge in running!
Poomsae training. The first of the year. I was a bit nervous because I had done absolutely NO work on my patterns and this morning I couldn't even remember how pattern 8 went! So of course we did patterns - after, we're Poomsae! Started at 4 and worked our way up to Koryo without a break. Phew! Then stepping drills. We are to choose one technical and one physical thing to focus on this term. I'm rather spoilt for choice!!
