PetiteSheWolf I have a friend who lives to travel; that's all he does. Fortunately he has been able to do a couple of interstate trips over the last year, but he is absolutely aching to go overseas and is currently planning a trip. And then I hear that Austria and Germany are in lockdown. I think, though, he was headed to France, so fingers crossed!

Hmm, we should be getting new directions from the health minister today, so your friend should stay informed, hoping it still is possible (rumor is more vaccines, and more places obliged to use masks, but as long as he is double vaxxed , should be OK).
Anyhow, this is first world, (mostly) rich people issues, gotta remember that too! Having access to heallthcare, and vaccines is already great.

        Day 684

         Programme:
        - Day 17 Ironheart
         Splits app. Intermediate, day 25.

Taekwondo general training. It was bucketting down this evening and I thought the weather would reduce numbers even further. Well, something certainly did! We warmed up - running, californians, pre-squats, switches, diver squats, and burpees. In groups - leg raises, sit-ups, windshield wipers, and push-outs. Then punches - mid-section and high. We're told that if we can do 50 more punches after we've already done 50 punches, we're not working hard enough! Punches use both arms and the body torques a bit, the abs tensing. Shoulders relax, and only in the final third of the movement do you tense. It helps to imagine that there is a rubber band around your elbows (across your back) and when one arm goes out, the other goes back (the fist always stops and starts at the waist) at the same time and with similar effort. That way, each punch can result in two strikes - the punch in front of you, and the elbow strike behind you. As you can imagine, you do this with full power and you're really in the sweat zone by about only 20!
Then we split into two groups - sparrers over there, the rest over here. There were 8 in total, being 3 teens and 5 adults. We did technical training on kicks, which means it's a bit slower and we can do them in a less fluid way, focussing on prep -> extension -> recovery -> return. It was horribly humid as it had been about 23 degrees today and there was a lot of rain. We had a door open and a fan on but even so it was very sticky. We worked ball kick (not instep which has pointed toes), turning, side, double side, push, down, axe, hook, outswing, and inswing. Inswing is always hard because the leg swings up from the outside of the body across the front in an arc, and I find it harder to swing from the outside than the inside, especially as we normally do this kick towards the end when we're tired. A good session, though.

PetiteSheWolf First world issues are still issues that concern us, raise our blood pressure, create ulcers, etc. It was my good fortune to have been born in an affluent society, but that doesn't mean that my problems are to be shrugged off. Problems are problems, regardless of what sort of problems they are. Mind you, I would rather have a problem like having to cancel an overseas trip than not being able to find drinkable water!

          Day 685

           Programme:
          - Day 18 Ironheart
Splits app. Intermediate, day 26. 22 minutes. Several of the stretches are held for longer now - 90 seconds instead of 60 seconds. Nearing the end of this programme. I have selected another splits programme that I'm going to give a go after I've finished this one. I shall have done this one twice now, both the Beginner and Intermediate programmes, and that's enough.
          Workout:
          - Hip Flexors How could I not?

Really wasn't in the mood today. Felt a bit tired. I think the return to training - and then doing it three days in a row - took a bit more out of me than I expected. So I didn't do very much today. I listened to my body which was saying "I don't think so!" Except there were lots of things that had to be done that were non-exercise related! It was also another return to winter today - rainy again, and only up to about 15 degrees.

Hopefully you'll find your rest on the weekend!

              - Day 19 Ironheart
Splits app. Intermediate, day 27. 24 minutes.

Thanks, Anek doing my best. I think also when this tooth comes out on Friday things will start picking up.

                Day 687

                 Programme:
                - Day 20 Ironheart
Splits app. Intermediate, day 28. 24 minutes.

Another nice easy day. Another weekend with peculiar weather. The two previous weekends either bucketted with rain or threatened to. This weekend, it was just damp and chilly - a return to winter. I don't mind walking out in winter, but then I expect the cold, and it's a different sort of cold to this dankness. So another weekend without a walk, though I spent some time this morning checking out new routes. Still, I guess I'm set for next weekend. Weather permitting!

                  Day 688

                   Programme:
                  - Day 21 Ironheart
Splits app. Intermediate, day 29. 24 minutes.

I had to have a blood test today. Worst phlebotomist I have ever had! I have a beautiful big vein that most phlebotomists positively drool over, but this bloke seemed to miss the darned thing and had to keep wiggling the needle to get the vial filled. Couldn't even get the second one filled and had to use the vein in the other arm. Yep, got a big bruise by the good vein. Glad that I didn't have to heft any weights today, or really do anything with the arms. Beautiful warm day, though, and going to get warmer as the week progresses - up to 29 on Thursday they say - and then down again to 19 on Sunday. Spring so can't make up her mind this year!

I hate it when they wiggling the needle around! Getting jabbed in both arms just adds to the insult. I had a blood test today too. Thankfully I had it pretty easy. Hope your arm feels better tomorrow.

                      Day 689

                       Programme:
                      - Day 22 Ironheart
Splits app. Intermediate, day 30. Okay, so this one is finished again. I measured my splits and quite frankly, I think if there's any improvement it's like 1 or 2 degrees only. Anyway, I'll give another programme a go next month. It has worse graphics than this one, but we'll see what the programme is like.

Taekwondo general training. Last one for the year at this centre, so Thursday and next week I'll have to go to a different one. We were told that today would be "fun" - I know what that means: sparring drills!! That's what happens when you're a predominantly sparring club. Nobody ever thinks that poomsae drills are "fun" - except me... A quick warm-up of running, lunges, jumping, hip rotations, then stepping drills followed by partnered sparring drills. Despite there being only a few people, there was actually an even number, which made partnering easy. Finished with a spot of one-on-one sparring, and I tricked my partner by throwing in an axe kick just for fun - she walked right into it. Phew! Warmer day today, too, so that helped with the sweat.

bdthom I know, right. I showed my arm to someone at training tonight and she asked how anyone could miss a vein like that! I mean, you can see this thing from the moon!! Fortunately, apart from the bruise, there's no ill-effect.

                        Day 690

                         Programmes:
                        - Day 23 Ironheart
                        - Day 1 Fit December I know, I know. So much for all my fine talk about doing only one programme at a time! But it's not my fault - a 31-day programme for December simply has to be started at the beginning of December. Besides, only a week to go of Ironheart, and this way I don't have to think what programme I'll do next until the new year. Anyway, had a bit of fun with this one. After the plank, I jumped in to my hands (yes, the hamstring is letting me do that again!) to stand for the high knees - pseudo-burpee training.
Splits app. Oh, I hated this one and I'll not do it again. I don't mind those emotionless computerised voices that don't have appropriate pauses, but when you hear things like:
Click image for larger version Name:	20211201_205805.jpg Views:	0 Size:	85.3 KB ID:	827896
and you simply can't do it because you have no idea what all this means and it's just too funny and you're laughing too much anyway to listen carefully, and the voice goes on and on without any pauses - well, sorry, but that app's been deleted. It has appallingly "tinkly" music too which was absolutely dreadful. The one I've been using is, apparently, from my searches around the Web, the best free app, so I guess I'll just stick with it. That same mob has got some other programmes that have stretching but they are only single workouts. I might do them just for a bit of a change.

My wife asked me to do Fit December with her last night at 1130pm. I wasn't planning on any programs, but now I guess I am in as well. It doesn't look too bad though

                            Day 691

                             Programmes:
                            - Day 24 Ironheart
                            - Day 2 Fit December

Taekwondo general training. Had to go to a different centre tonight so that meant leaving home a little earlier than usual. There were only four of us from my usual centre so we didn't swell the rank much! Pretty much a repeat of Tuesday except we didn't do any back swing kicks which I so need to work on.

No splits today. I wasn't happy with the app I tried yesterday and I didn't feel in the mood to use the (very good) app I have been using. Last night I started looking at YouTube for splits programmes and found myself checking out my usual subscriptions and, though I did find a couple of videos that I'll follow, I got sidetracked and slipped down that rabbit hole, and ended up saving videos on how to improve my back swing kick! Must confess, haven't done that sort of thing in a while and it was fun. Every time I find I need something else, whether it be improving my back swing kick or strengthening my legs for a leg hold or whatever, I'll probably find an appropriate video on one of my saved subscriptions. Not that there's so many, fortunately. Chloe Bruce is a favourite for a lot of things - I would love to be able to do a scorpion kick. I don't want to do one, but I'd love to be able to do one! Probably should see if getting some yoga blocks is a worthwhile investment...

Fremen I know! And when I saw some of her bo staff tutorials, I started wondering how I could get my daughter to let me borrow hers... I think she (Chloe, not my daughter!) can help me a lot with my various progressions. I used to be hopelessly daunted. Now, though, I'm just daunted! Oh, and envious...
