Schedule has been absolutely crazy and my kiddo is a touch out of sort this past week so that tends to throw a kink in the daily routine or the sleep routine. It seems that he has seasonal allergies and that is new thing for this spring and he is not handling it well at all. They suck, I know, as I have them too, but they are resulting in him not falling asleep until at least midnight (or later) and then he's up before the sun is even rising (3:30-4am). I hope whatever started pollinating this week isn't doing it's thing for very long so he doesn't continue to feel so crappy and I can get more than a few hours of sleep a night.

    ---

I am continuing along with Hero's Journey still. Sometimes doubling up the days depending on what or if I am attending classes for the week and I don't do any HJ on Sundays as it's my active rest day. I think it will be less than two months for me to get it all done as right now most of the days are quite easy.

    ---

BJJ this week was way better than the class the week prior. I can finally maintain pummeling without mucking it up every handful of go arounds. I just can't think about it when I am doing it! I ended up paired with one of the gals from the previous class this time around and she's a baby (18 yrs) so that explains the chitchat before with the other young gal. We talked about nothing but class related stuff this go around and she actually put in the effort this time too. I talked her out of using pads for practicing jumping into guard as I knew I wouldn't need them for her and honestly we're already on mats so it wouldn't make much of a difference either way do better to just do without. Plus, I mean when there's only two chicks in a room full of nearly 30 guys I feel like you need to at least attempt to hold the same standard, but I suppose this could just be me. I don't like appearing weak when I am working just as hard.
Anyway I've no idea what anything is called but what we learned looked like this: jumping into guard, pulling down to the mat, into a flared elbow choke then scooped over into mount, and then to this elbow lock/twist - wait for tap. Each step was broken down before going through the entire set-up for the last 10 minutes of class. I LOVED this flow of movement it was so damn seamless by the end of class

    June 1st - Saturday

Punch Out! Challenge D1 ~ 80 punches (each side)

    Hero's Journey ~ Day 15 : There'll Be Dragons -- Boss Fight / 10 sets

Replaced 'to failure push-ups' with DB shoulder press + 20 chest exps as my left wrist isn't doing any push-ups for a few days. Got it taped and trying to take it easy.

Hero's Journey ~ Day 16: The Sun Goes Down -- core day. Changed all reps to 20 apiece instead of 12 in part 1 and 10 in part 2

Core Workout / 4 sets / no rest between exercises
    80 torso twists
    40 side bends
    40 tornadoes
    40 sitting twists

I think I'll head out for a short run later this evening when it cools down some more. I had another massage this week and I want to see how the ankle is feeling after a run considering it feels amazing right now! It does look like the problem is with massive tightness in my right hip and it's causing the pain in the ankle though so I need to get on top of the daily yoga if I want the pain to stay away.

Three week update as this seems to be my norm

I've seen the massage therapist several times now and that is making a world of difference for me physically. Calves are no longer tight so that means my ankle doesn't hurt when I run anymore and my right hip is more loose and I'm doing my best to keep it that way. I see him again next week and working through upper back and forearms as there seems to be some pre-tendinitis going on in the latter and hopefully nip that in the bud. On a slightly less happier note, that stuff I had going on about a year - year and a half ago (biopsy and small surgeries) is back So that means another biopsy and small surgery next month, blood work next week, and an ultrasound the month after. Such long waits for everything! Aside from some abnormal fatigue I physically feel fine and just keeping to my routine and cultivating positive thoughts to hopefully give me good news

I completed up to Day 40 of Hero's Journey and decided that was plenty as I wanted to start lifting again. So I am doing Ironborn yet again (it's a fave) and adding on some extras for each day.

I am basically doing a pole strong class around 2 to 3 times a month depending on whether class is cancelled or not for that week. Though the owner is super awesome about turning the time into a practice hour if no one else is coming to class. I might be able to get started on inverted moves next month. The challenge is that I have plenty of upper body strength and it's tough to not "muscle" my way through the moves when I first learn them.

Not doing a ton of running lately, around twice a week or so, but that's it. Just not enough time most days to make it happen and I gotta prioritize what I want to do for exercise.

Finally, I am hitting up two BJJ classes a week now - one at 7am and one in the evening.
Loving it so much still AND I got my first stripe last night

            June 19th - Wednesday

            ~ no pole this week
~ just over 2 hours of logging at my dad's property (farm/acreage). Destroyed me. Sore muscles, scratches and bruises galore. Probably going back next week to help him do more

            June 20th - Thursday

Ironborn ~ Day 1 + extras / 4 sets / 30sec rest between sets -- starting the first days of each muscle group off with lighter weights to see how it is with the short rest times between sets and the extra exercises done in the same manner. I think I will increase weight for most everything next time around.

            shoulder press ~ 12,10,10,8 / 20lb DBs
            chest press ~ 12,10,10,8 / 30lb DBs
            lat raises ~ 6,6,5,5 / 15lb DBs
single arm tri exts ~ 5,5,4,4 each side / 20lb DB

            skullcrushers ~ 7,6,5,5 / 20lb DBs
            lat pullovers ~ 10,8,8,7 / 15lb DBs
            tri kickbacks ~ 6,6,5,5 each side / 30lb DB
            bent arm lat raises + ext. rotation ~ 6,6,5,5 / 15lb DBs
            L-raises ~ 12,10,10,8 / 15lb DBs

~ 1 hour BJJ : warm up was absolutely brutal! Countering kicks with takedowns (x2) - to mount - break guard - straight ankle lock or toe hold (? I think)
Partnered with a slightly higher white belt (who happened to get his third stripe last night) and it was a great class! I got plenty of practice being tossed about and to the mat that is for sure despite really trying to keep myself upright. At the start he was like "resist me taking you down" and all I could say was that I kinda already am dude I'm standing on one foot and you weigh at least 50lbs more than me there ain't much I can do as far as stopping you at this point. Because there are so few chicks here most of the guys have never had to partner up with one in class and boy am I getting tired of hearing "you alright/good/ok/etc." or "is this fine/too much/etc." If I get hurt it's because I didn't fall properly/wasn't paying attention and I need to do better. Hopefully this lessens over time, especially now that I am there twice a week.
To begin with he was basically breaking guard for me into the ankle lock until I asked him to let me actually try it and managed to do it no problem. Few times he even struggled to break mine thanks to my super bendy ankles Thankfully by the halfway mark we were both going full on, had some excellent flow and were both glorious sweaty messes.

              June 21st - Friday

Sore as hell today. Oh my goodness~!
Between the BJJ last night and the lifting during the day yesterday I feel completely wrecked. Definitely doing some yoga this evening before bedtime as I haven't been this sore in a long time.

~ about 2 hours of gardening in the community garden at the complex here and my front yard space

Ironborn ~ Day 2 + one extra / 4 sets / 30sec rest between sets -- did all reps slow

              alt bicep curls ~ 12,10,10,8 / 20lb DBs
              upright rows ~ 8,8,6,5 / 20lb DBs
              deadlifts ~ 8,8,6,5 / 30lb DBs
              shrugs ~ 10,10,8,6 / 30lb DBs
              bent over rows ~ 8,8,6,5 / 20lb DBs
              bent over flys ~ 6,5,5,4 / 15lb DBs

              hammer curls ~ 12,10,10,8 / 20lb DBs

                                June 25th - Tuesday

                                all levels BJJ ~ 7am to 8am
hard pummeling, breaking grabs, flower sweep, and can't remember the last thing we worked only that it started with hooking the leg and finished in an arm bar. That last one was a lot of fun and I had a most excellent partner this morning. We both just gave it all that we could, it was fantastic and I was so pooped!

                                private session BJJ ~ 8am to 8:30am
I wanted to go over some of the simple movements that general consist of the warm-up but are essentially slapped all together for a full sequence of moves during class. The Mod 1 class size is way to big to get that instructor to focus on this with me on that evening each week unfortunately.
Worked on: shrimping, shrimping drills, moving from shrimp to knees, side to side forward rolls to guard, shrimp escape from side mount to butterfly guard and then full guard. I know there was one more thing but I can't completely recall it now It had to do with me moving from shrimp to knees but then double leg take down and into side mount. I need to practice keeping my all my upper body weight down and not on my hands as I come around on my toes to side mount.

There is a tournament here in town this weekend, and no I am not participating (not this time anyway ), but I think I am going to go watch providing what time it is at and what that day's schedule looks like.

                                Ironborn ~ Day 5 + extras / 4 sets / 30sec rest between sets

                                lat raises ~ 6,6,5,4 / 17.5lb DBs
single arm tri exts ~ 6,5,5,4 each side / 22.5lb DB

                                DB snatches ~ 10,8,8,6 each side / 30lb DB
