I am probably the most chaotic thread reader in the Hive, so forgive me if you have explained it somewhere in this thread and I missed it.

Your No Sugar Challenge: is it NO white sugar? NO white/dark sugar (including pure panela, the dried juice obtained from the sugar cane?) Or NO sweeteners at all? No honey, no maple syrup, no agave syrup, no dates etc.?

If it's not a problem, could you share your approach and products you do use to sweeten your life a little bit?

Meditation, no sugar, tough workouts ... there is an example of discipline ... respect!!!
May I ask what kind of meditation practice you follow?
              cheers, Martikkk

inbetween don´t worry, I think we have something in common regarding the check-ins

well, the no sugar challenge means: "no added industrial sugar". The rules I stated here in this link.

But to answer your question without "just a link" nonetheless: as far as the stuff is natural, it is ok, so dates and honey are ok. But we aim on using only a small amount, for example some berries for the breakfast and the cereals, or when we bake we take the honey as substitute, and so on. But only if neccessary, we don´t want to change one devil with another one, right? I think you get my drift. The main challenge is the added industrial sugar, and believe me, it is one hell of a job, they put this stuff everywhere ...

martikkk Thanks for you kind words Regarding the meditation: I wouldn´t say that I follow an explicit way ... I just follow the way my body tells me ... I started the meditation challenge in "the Meditation Room" - we had a great time, still have, and discussed a lots of different ways, well, everybody has some special sitting rules, right?

I for my part am doing the meditation this way:

                  - sitting with a pillow on my yoga-mat, legs crossed, hands on elbows, straight body
                  - because my brain always wanders (it´s not bad, because that is what the brain is there for, and that is good, though) I first recall the days events. This works quite good for me, because after that, my brain is mostly satisfied.
                  - after that I go for phase two: concentrating on my breath (in ... out ... in ... out ...)
                  - then I try to listen to my body ...
                  - when I notice that my brain starts to wander again, I concentrate on my breath again (in ... out ... in ... out) - even say the words silently as a kind of mantra if you get my drift.
                  - trying reaching to calm down and let the stress of the day pass away

about the time: well, there is no golden rule for me. My personal rule is to sitt at least for 5-10 minutes, sometimes it works better then that, sometimes it works just right, and sometimes, well, even 2 minutes are better then nothing. but as long as I try to sit down and stand up afterwards with a good feeling, well ... the whole process helps me to calm down, taking some "me-time" - it is just a great and positive contrast to the rest of the day and helps me a lot, hard to describe it is just:

I hope this answer was sufficent What is your way?

daejamurrachan Great news indeed When I can help you with some other vegetables ...

                  Great day.

Today was one of those days where you have a lot of energy ... Therefore I choose 1 hour of digging up roots as warm-up my wife did the dinner in the meantime

Then I had enough energy left for the rest of the workouts.

                  Let´s conquer tomorrow, shall we?

Thank you so much for your explanation and the link! I see we more or less share many of the culinary rules

I was just wondering whether you have some other secret ingredients or methods I may have not heard of

Yes, I understand what you mean with changing one evil for other, I could see many people fall in the trap of using way too much xylitol as a way of avoiding sugar... which is not too good either, as with any excess.

                    Anyway, thanks a lot!

TheLibrarian thanks so much for your description of your practice. Such words and thoughts are infinitely valuable and a great inspiration. I do many things the same way. I totally agree that the brain is made for"secreting" thoughts and that is what it will do. So no point in trying to make it shut up. It will calm by itself in due time :-)
I always sit right after working out first thing in the morning. Mostly at, like, 5.30 a.m.. I sit, like you, on a cushion on my yoga mat. 20 minutes is what it mostly is... But I totally agree with you that in essence it doesn't matter if it is 2 or 30 minutes. The effort counts, the second, the breath, the bliss
                      Cheers, martikkk

                              Redline HellYeah daejamurrachan Thanks Bees
inbetween well, the only "special ingredient" which always makes my life a better place is .... drumroll ... "salt" well, I think this is not what you meant and expected, right? Fortunately I was always, even as a child, more friend with salt then with sugar ... but I wouldn´t recommend salted strawberries (grandmother once mixed up salt and sugar) But for example popcorn works great with salt, especially when you make it yourself.

Apart from that there is not much other substitues or "special ingredient" we use, apart from honey, dates, berries. And even some other fruits like bananas are no real solutions, because they have too much natural sugar (well we use bananas occasionally yes, but not on a daily basis) ... One thing comes to my mind. If you like milk, you could use rice-milk eventually for stuff like a cup of cacoa, because it is very sweet and mostly does not need added stuff if you get my drift. ...

But I will gladly share a nice desert with you - totally without sugar - because peanut-butter and avocado are special ingredients too - I hope you´ll enjoy it:

-1 avocado, 1 tablespoon peanut-butter (salted / crunchy is very good), cacoa as needed (if you want it more bitter, then take more cacoa - just experiment a bit), if you like more sweetness you can add a banana (or some other substitute), if it is too firm / solid then add some milk or milk substitute (depends on your personal needs) - the easy way is to use a blender, but you can also use a fork.

this is our favourite "chocolate-mouse" from time to time

Wow, your avocado / peanut butter / cocoa mousse looks like something to try! I will remember.
(I prefer eating my avocado with brow sugar (the way a part-Brasilian coworker taught me), rather than with mayonaise or vinaigrette (the more usual way to eat it in France), so I see how that could work.
