    recovering from injury

Looking for suggestions on where to start training after recovering from a shoulder injury. I still get sore quickly on the right side, and occasionally my right hand starts to tingle when I'm pushing. Thanks in advance. I'm also looking to lose about 30-40 pounds in the next 4 months.

I have had issues over the course of the past year, especially when training at a decent pace. Nothing really in my arm (a minor bicep strain for a couple of days once) but I did hit a lot of issues with my back, hip and legs. When I did it I slowed down my training and worked on the Foundation Light program until I was healthy enough to continue with what I was on. Not sure what your present level of fitness is, but I would suggest to start with a level 1 or level 2 program and see how your body adjusts. I do a fair amount of exercise, but still have made time for most of these, having done Foundation, Foundation Light, Baseline, Vitality and now working on Square One. If you find that there are too easy, then look at a level 3 program that is focusing on an area that you want to improve.

Weight loss is more about food than it is about exercise. There is a great nutrition section on this website, but lots of good sources around the internet (I find LiveStrong is pretty good, so is PopSugar Fitness, even though aimed more at women). Do some research, find some recipes and start making small and gradual changes to when, what and how you eat. There are a lot of great tastes out there in the world that diverge from the processed foods that are manufactured to get a specific psychological and physical reaction to our bodies, and which are generally not very good for us. A little bit of work towards eating healthier is all you need to do to start to lose the weight.

I realize that it's more about food. Luckily for me, I won't get to make too many more choices on what I eat the next 4 months. I'm deploying and I get to eat whatever the galley cooks up. Haven't had problems losing weight while out to sea yet. I'll look at and probably download one of those programs before I go. Thanks!
