Help! I want to eat ALL the things!

Hi all. I'm hoping someone can help me with an issue I'm having. I have just recently started on the bandwagon of getting really fit and healthy. I started slow. First,I started eating a lot less, which was going really well! Then I started to do light training, and then went along perfectly with the eating less. Now I am just starting to get a little more serious about training (I mean, still major beginner. I can't even get through 3 full rounds of most of Neila's workouts) but I'm like ravenous all the time now. Am I not eating enough? Is it just in my head? Is my body experiencing some kind of shock because it's used to getting more food? What should I do?

    Hi Red Foot!

Maybe it's a little bit of everything - you are changing several things about you lifestyle, after all.

Are you eating enough? I have no idea. Have you considered keeping a food diary combined with a workout diary?

Then there's the question of what you eat - is it more carb oriented or protein oriented, how about fruit and veggies, fibres,...?
There are mealplans you can follow; they contain everything you need, but in quantities that make sure that you lose weight...

And another question: is it really hunger, or is it maybe thirst? I sweat during the workouts, so my body wants to me to rehydrate, and sometimes, it isn't easy to distinguish hunger from thirst. So, I tend to drink a tall glas of water and wait before I go and eat something...

That's what happens when you train on a regular basis. Your daily energy needs go up, your metabolism speeds up but with that you also become extremely hungry all the time - like you can and will eat anything not nailed to the floor. Sadly, that's normal. That's what happens when your body realizes that you need more energy in because there is just too much energy going out.

Don't fall for it. It's just an illusion, if you ignore it after a while it'll go away. It's a natural response to increased activity. Because of this many people tend to overeat and end up eating more than they burn in the end. It takes some time for your body to get used to this new situation and it'll get better, you'll be able to eat more eventually without the risk of gaining any extra weight once you carry some muscle and continue training hard. I am not saying you will be able to eat anything you want in unlimited amounts but close enough - that's what we all strive for, train so we can eat and stay fit

The bottom line: this is normal. It sometimes helps to think that this situation is only temporary, that it's not forever and plan for your next cheatmeal. I found that it helps if you think of it in terms of "I'll eat it later" rather than "I can't eat it".

      I hope this helps!

RedFoot ,hi. Just thought I'd say I feel ya! It does get easier like neilarey said.
But I have to disagree with the statement " like you can and will eat anything not nailed to the floor." I still think even if it were nailed to floor I'd eat around nails.....
But, hey neilarey when does it become time to eat more? How do you know when its that time??

          lol Candace
Your mindset changes eventually once training becomes part of your daily life, just like brushing your teeth, eating more stops being an issue, you can just eat and not think too much about the quantities and whether you can have that extra something that may or may not be covered in chocolate... [ wooah steady there, Neila ] Once you get to a comfortable "fit", you've got some muscle mass on you (which is also incredibly taxing to to maintain, it really does burn a lot of extra energy with every move you make) it somehow becomes ok. I honestly don't know the exact moment but it does happen but by that time you are a changed person anyway.

And just for the record, I am someone who in the past would also eat the nails

Chocolate is my thing...I mentioned once that after I passed a stand in store passing out samples of chocolate truffles I had fantasized about using my new fighters codex skillz to back hand everyone away effectively securing all the yummy truffles to myself! Possibaly, yelling between mouthfulls of gooey carmel and chocolate O-o that they'll never catch me!
but yea, Its getting better LOL

Never worry, you wouldn't be the first, nor the last one to make a thread and then never answer for one reason or another.

But I do hope you reached at least some of your goals since then.
