Quiet Warmup is for every warmup context where noise is not an option: the 6 am start above a sleeping household, the apartment with acoustically gifted floors, the hotel room, the office. Eight exercises at 10 reps each - tilts, shoulder rolls, arm circles, chest expansions, twists, hip rotations, calf raises and march steps - and not one of them makes a sound the room next door could identify. It is also, quietly, the only warmup in the family that starts with your neck.
The sequence runs top to bottom with the volume knob at zero. Neck tilts open the routine because the neck is where quiet mornings hold their stiffness, and no other warmup on the shelf addresses it. Shoulder rolls, arm circles and chest expansions then work the shoulders through three ranges - all airborne movement, zero impact. Twists and hip rotations take the spine and hips through rotation, the motions that make no noise by nature. The legs finish on tiptoe, almost literally: calf raises rise and lower with complete control, and march steps place each foot down rather than dropping it, delivering the knee-drive rehearsal and the pulse lift without a single audible landing. Silence, it turns out, is just another word for control - and control is a better warmup than noise ever was.
Tilt the neck gently through its range without forcing the end points. Keep all the arm work long and smooth. Twist from the ribcage over planted hips, and draw the hip rotations wide. In the calf raises, lower with the same care you rose - the descent is where the noise would live, so the descent is where the control is trained. March with soft, deliberate foot placements, knees to hip height, posture tall: the quietest step is also the best-controlled one, which is the whole point.
The household sleeps, the neighbors are undisturbed, and you are fully warmed up - stealth was never supposed to be this productive.
Make it Harder: Keep the silence and slow everything down - a noiseless calf raise at half speed is twice the exercise.
Make it Easier: Cut everything to 5 reps and keep the top-to-bottom order.
