    We already had a couple of challenges with pistol squats, actually - both a few years ago...

    For the first one, we did assisted pistols (only half-ROM, with a chair for support). The second one was a little more... erm, hardcore.

    So, my final entry is online at last! And I really believe I counted properly this time. I managed to do a better time by not putting my foot down between side and front kicks, but I believe my form suffered a bit.

    Anyway, here it is:

    Hmmm, you're asking a question that is hard to answer Miss_Dada. Traditionally, the answer to how many kicks to do daily, my old instructors would say "1,000 kicks. Every day". Truth is if you did that you'd see results but you would also run the risk of injury.

    In our more enlightened times we have learnt to break down the kicks into segments and then understand what each segment does. For speed, for example, we need flexibility (hamstrings and adductors) and hip flexor strength and core stability (so holding the leg sideways for a minute and holding the leg to the front for a minute. Then repeat.) For form, we need kicks performed lightly (i.e. without putting a lot of pressure on the joints) and fast, so we snap them back even if we practise penetrative kicks. For overall quality we should practise both slow and fast. Performing kicks really slowly is really hard.

    And side-to-side kicks are perfect for building stamina, balance and endurance. But you can't do them day after day because they stress the knees. So, every other day or two times a week is great and you should aim for 1,000 (10 lots of 100). So, really, while you are practising kicking-related exercises (and some kicks) every day, you only really put in a lot of kicks every other day at the most. That is only true if we are talking basic kicks. Otherwise the kick-variations and combinations are so many that you can do kicks every day withotu a problem as the variety spreads the load and relieves issues that might build up with repetition that stresses a particular joint.

    And now I am really jealous, that you know Scott Adkins in person !! Wow...I often watch his youtube tutorials videos and am crazy about his kicking techniques!! And of course about all the UNDISPUTED movies!! ..😎..

    To ask you more regarding kicks, I would like to know, how much are,,side-to-side kicks ,, effective for general training, I noticed it's not a lot of it in Darebee Workouts.
    I find them very easy and good as a fast cardio/hiit...

    Also, if there exists any recomendation of ,,how many kicks to do daily,, , talking about basic kicks( side kick, turning, front snap, double side) to achieve better form?

    Or if is better to repeat one or two workouts daily , until I can perform in a best way and best time (shortest time) , for example Free Roam workout and after a month to train another - Headhunter ? I like both workouts very much, many people have a different oppinion on Headhunter workout πŸ˜‰ I think, that it's the best ,,kicking training workout,, from all on Darebee and very challenging from the endurance side especially..
    What is your oppinion?
    Which Darebee Workout(s) with kicking practise,do you find as the best to do daily,or let me say,every other day, to achieve the best results ?

    Miss_Dada thank you for the tag and you made me smile, seeing how I know Scott Adkins and we used to train together on occasion in the Midlands with the TAGB squad before he took off for Hong Kong. The answers supplied on Quora (which you linked to) are all misleading as far as speed and flexibility are concerned. Longer legs are an advantage in competitive martial arts (because points can be scored at a distance) but that's it. Kick speed is subject to body mass commitment (which helps develop power at the point of impact), core strength, tendon strength, hamstring flexibility, quad strength, balance (which needs a strong standing leg), foot positioning, arm positioning and the distance the foot travels before hitting the target (virtually all of this is covered in our detailed Kick Guide).

    "Best kicks" are the kicks that always find their target the length of one's legs doesn't matter. Popularly, beginners with long legs find it easier to score points against beginners with shorter legs leading to the myth of "long-legged kickers being best". An experienced martial artist uses momentum, angles, and positioning to negate a long-legged kicker's advantage.

    In the challenge you are discussing kicking speed comes from limb speed. To understand what powers it we need to look at the physics: in order for a kick to be repeated the kicking limb must be retracted. The quads are the primary movers here, so fast kicks need strong quads which are also durable so the kicks can be repeated. Retraction is supplied by the hamstrings so you need strong, flexible hamstrings. 'Speed' in this context is also supplied by the depth of the retraction of each kick. If the leg is retracted fully each time before flowing to the next kick, valuable time is lost and extra load is applied to the hip flexors and hamstrings. This will then also increase the power travelling down the standing leg which means that ankle stability is key. If, the leg is not retracted fully then the kicks immediately become faster even if everything else remains the same.

    To improve in this challenge we usually need a strong core and good, strong calves as the foot has to rise on the ball of the foot to switch the body each time between side kick and front snap kick. The angle of travel of the foot in each such change is maximum 90 degrees. So the foot points almost forward for front snap kick and at 90 degrees to its previous position when executing the side kick and then it switches back again. Strong hip flexors and glutes also help of course but then they help with all kicks not just this challenge.

    There is a lot more to all this, of course, but I think, for now this will most probably do; unless there are any more questions. I really hope this helps.

    SuperFouino wow congrats I am not going to challenge myself for faster time, because I noticed some bad impact on my back knees yesterday,when training and I want to kick and punch every day so it's more about endurance from my side and the most certainly health issue ❀

    Zastria thanks for anwer this is actually interesting topic = Longer Legs and kick practise ( I did a quick search on the net, someone writes there,that best kickers have long legs...hmm I wonder which one? πŸ€”πŸ€”) All World known and possibly best martial artists are short/small. I do not want to offend anyone 😬😁 so please do not misunderstand me(anyone who is reading this)!!
    But I would second the answer in the article= all depends on how much do you practise.
    on the other hand short people are faster,because they have less body to handeπŸ˜πŸ€”? I don't know!! ?

    This is maybe a question for Damer who I would like to ask to explain it better, please.😊

    Myself, I have the same height as my the most favourite actor and Martial Artist Scott Adkins which is 178cm / 5 feet 10 inches....maybe a bit more...😊 my weight is of course less then his,lol..... I can meassure my legs if it helps they are long to the floor
    ...on the whole I am much stronger and stable with my legs and glutes(wall sit 20 min and more), but faster with hands....πŸ€”πŸ˜‡πŸ˜
