An update
At the beginning of March, I got sick. My symptoms was an irregular heart rate, nervousness, heat intolerance, muscle weakness, trembling hands and weight loss.
I went to the doctor two weeks ago. My blood tests showed that I was affected by an overactive thyroid (hyperthyroidism). After several tests at the hospital, I was diagnosed yesterday with Graves' disease, an autoimmune disease affecting the thyroid. The thyroid hormones control how the body uses energy, affecting nearly every organ in the body, even the way the heart beats. My condition has resulted in a much higher heart rate than usual. For the last month, my heart rate has been 90-110, which is well above my regular heart rate, which is between 45-50. I also feel my hands, legs, and voice are shaking, and I often feel nervous because of my increased heart rate. I lost almost 4 kilos of muscle mass, while my fat percentage went from 18% to 23%. My total weight loss has been 2 kg.
Fortunately, Graves disease is treatable with medicine (beta-blockers and antithyroid medicine). I should no longer feel the symptoms over the next 4-6 weeks with the medical treatment. The treatment takes one year, and I shall go for observation for another year to ensure the disease does not return. There is a 50% chance that I will permanently recover from the illness. This is all good news.
As a result of my illness, I haven't been training at all in March, and I have only been lurking around at the Hive. So I'm looking forward to training again and read what you have all been up to. I will have to take it slow with the training because of my condition and adjust my program accordingly.
Life is a journey, and this will be another bump on the road.
regulating the thyroid is a very hard one. I hope you can find a good specialised team to help you set the right regimen. Hugs, and Mademoiselle Luna sends purrs.
