TopNotch yeah that makes sense. Well I've hit a bit of a downer, I feel miserable and have since yesterday.

I have [once again] changed my mind about what I want to do (I'm still drawing, I meant the herbalist thing). I feel like I drew the short straw and basically grew up learning nothing. I want to learn to be an awesome person, someone who is like a real life anime character but I keep failing and I think it's partly due to being alone in that pursuit. I read books on being a better person but I don't practice the skills.

So with my realisation that I want to be "cool", please hear this out. I am currently watching "the worlds finest assassin gets reincarnated in another world as an aristocrat" and I think assassins [in anime at least] come off as cool, calm and collected. If you've seen assassination classroom, that was what made me almost want to be a teacher but that's beside the point. The MC of both shows had incredible skills. I'm also watching an anime called spy X family (as you can guess, it's about a spy) and I looked up stuff both on assassination (which I decided to abandon) and spy stuff. there's these two book, "a spies guide to thinking and strategy" and "a spies guide to taking risks". Both of these caught my attention but I dunno, I need help with thinking more critically and strategy.

I also feel very overwhelmed. Trying to be a better person, learning new skills, getting healthy and the depression in particular make it hard to focus on anything. And I felt bad today so I stupidly dipped into my ISA.

Anyway thanks for listening to my self pity. If I was honest, learning to think like a spy would be cool.

    EDIT

I have begun my education to be the MC in my own anime called life. I have started with a book I've had for a few months now called Cues. I think I'll 🤔 the name of my new thread a bit more before starting it and I'll have to think about my training and skills practice to become a better person.

By all means, grow herbs and learn some basic herbal remedies, like simples and how to make your own salves, but you're not going to make money from it. It is a specialised field that requires training, generally some sort of accreditation, and a whole lot of knowledge. That doesn't, however, prevent you from learning how to make your own soothing salve for cuts and scrapes, or a tea to help an upset stomach, but forget about making any money from it.

    Another original drawing. I'd say it's a 6.5 / 10 and that's me being hard on myself. I'd really give it a 7.5.

I still have a ways to go but this is my second "non copied" piece. I feel like I am starting to gain some confidence in my own drawing ability. Now obviously I still need to work on some stuff but still.

I will cut my staff to length tomorrow and try to get so e exercise done. I am current arguing with myself whether to watch anime or draw. I'm actually getting worked up over it.

We checked the onions as they should have been ready to harvest but, as usual, dad didn't let me look at the planting instructions so they were all too small (I think the largest one was 1 inch wide. Then there's the pak choy, also been planted wrong so it's not gonna grow right and the Japanese greens is massive but I don't know what to use it for but it's pretty to look at and I seen a queen bee eating on it a few days ago.

My birthday is closing in, the big 3 0 😱 😱 😱 and there's so much I haven't done yet, depression really does steal your life I swear I remember being 18 then it's all a blur next thing I know I'm 30 😭.

Planning a new thread for my birthday. Got a new profile picture and all (I didn't draw it).

Something you may not know is I love music 🎶 ♥ and recently I discovered a voice actress who is also a Vtuber and singer. She plays the English VA of Marin from my dress up darling (which I really need to finish) and she has just released her debut album. Before that she did English covers of anime opening songs.

Now about 2 years ago I trialled a music software called soundtrap and enjoyed it but I wanted more (except it was £100+ a year) but with my new ISA and possibly having over £1700 in a year I thought I'd try again.

The thing is... I'm not confident it's a good idea because yes I love music but I've no musical talent.

Do I want to try? Yes.
Am I worried I'll be a failure? Absolutely.

I don't know what to do. I'll talk to my family, get their opinions but what do you 🐝 think?

    Update

My brother says I don't have the voice for singing and I wasn't committed to the music last time. He wants me to focus on my art instead so he suggested going to school for art lessons. I don't think I'll go back to school but I've decided that I'll focus on my art. My goal is to be a fan artist. I have a very detailed book by Manga University on how to draw everything from faces to full bodies so I am going to try and set aside 45 minutes every day to read and practice drawing, I even put up a sheet to track my progress.

Second drawing tonight. It's an original. Not sure if it's a boy or girl 🤔 but it has very feminine energy so probably a girl.

So I said to my mum and dad about the witchcraft interest and my mum was like "OK" but my dad kinda freaked a little and said no. I was only interested because of anime but tbh I'm easily scared so I'd probably freak myself out.

With our gardening plan (we got a new greenhouse btw) I was interested in learning about herbal remedies and stuff (which actually partly lead to the witchcraft thing). I found a beginners book on herbal remedies and figured it'd be a fun hobby (get me outside and maybe make some money eventually but at the very least give me something to do with my days).

We currently have about 12 🍅 plants with a few 🍅 on them, a Japanese greens plant, pak choy, mint, tyme, and some others I can't remember the names of.

TopNotch my number 1 anime character (and a fair few other favourites) use swords and I've wanted to be able to train like them for ages. I did the SAO survivor workout and enjoyed it but the katana collection actually teaches grips and skills [to a degree] and while many of my favourite characters use one handed swords I'll settle with a two handed one.

Also I've been thinking about what you and lofivelcro said in your last posts and here's my [very quickly made up] plan:
    • 4 minutes a day of reading my book on cues.
    • 4 minutes every day of drawing.
    • Spend 4 minutes first thing in the morning making a small "to do" list.
    • 4 minutes every day of speaking Japanese words or learning to make Japanese sentences.
I'll struggle but I'm going to try to make a remembrance picture or something and I'll post about my success and failure on this thread.

    lofivelcro TopNotch thanks 😊.

I can try what TopNotch suggested with my Japanese, I'm going to try it with speaking. I will also start exercising but I'll do it for myself (I want to use the darebee "katana themed workouts collection" to learn the use of a sword so I can feel like an anime character.

The list lofivelcro has provided is excellent! But Aether don't make a five-year plan. That's way too long for the sort of thing you're suggesting. If you have low motivation, you've got to make any goal you want to achieve, easy to reach. So don't try to do everything all at one go - you'll just burn yourself out. There's an interesting podcast you might like to listen to about tiny habits. I know we've talked before about such things as personal hygiene (for example), and this bloke suggests setting your goal at flossing just one tooth. That's it; that's your goal. Every day, floss one tooth. Now, chances are that when you get down to it, you'll floss them all because flossing just one is a bit odd, but you don't have to. If you floss just one, well, that's your goal reached, well done. If you floss more, well, you're an over-achiever - bask in that proud moment! Want to do 50 push-ups? Just do 2 every day - more if you want, but the goal is just 2. That's easy, right? You say you have a short attention span - so set a goal for doing something for just four minutes. Surely you could write a Japanese character 50 times in 4 minutes. And the important thing is never to increase that goal - keep it easy, achieveable, so even on bad days, you can meet it.

I think you don't need to learn about finances as of yet, but more about restriction and self-control.
Anyway, your request made for a nice topic of conversation so I pitched your request to some people. Here are the answers:

-Competence. At least in one field. Being competent in something is very important.
-Being able to recite Jules Verne. Well, I think that's not something you have to strive for. It's more like: Having a passion for something and being able to express that passion to others
-DIY skills. Being able to repair and maintain the things around you. Nothing's more sexier than a man who knows how to deal with stuff. That's something a female friend of mine said.
-Being able to hold yourself in a conversation and especially in an argument. Standing up for your opinion, making an argument for them, but being able to compromise or reconsider when proven wrong.
-Being able to take care of yourself and taking responsibility for your health, body and looks. This includes grooming, exercising, eating right and striving to be the best you can be. Because "that alone elevates you above the majority of people".
-Being able to spend time alone with yourself and with your thoughts. Without extern stimuli like music, TV, video games, whatever. Dealing with your thoughts no matter how unpleasant they are, analysing them, and working with them.

There also was a lot of agreement about not changing or working on yourself for somebody else, especially not a female, but solely for yourself, and you alone. As the female friend from earlier said: "You notice when someone made a change only to be liked by others or to find a woman. It feels like show, with nothing to back it up."

It's good to work on yourself. It builds confidence, and confidence helps with dealing with others. But do it for yourself.

2 days of binging anime. I watched The testament of sister new devil, Spirit chronicles, The hidden dungeon only I can enter and Akashic records of bastard magic instructor. Spirit chronicles is my current favourite, I just binged it again and there's a season 2 confirmed (Latifa is the most adorable demi human ever and her English VA makes sound adorable to).

I work tomorrow at 1 to an unknown time but it's going to be a pain as the whole family us out tomorrow so I'll likely have to walk to and from work.

I've been watching a lot of anime (as stated) and I really want to develop the skills to be an anime hero IRL. What skills would make a modern guy who is essentially a loser in a chick magnet anime hero? 🤔 I'm curious what your opinions are 🙇‍♂️

If I can gather some hero life skills b4 I turn 30 I think I'll start a thread and journey on own my hero story.

So I tend to get really overwhelmed if there's too many things so if everyone could give me just one (1) skill for me to work on and I'll build a 5 year training plan for my top skills (I guess I should give myself a limit less I be overwhelmed... so the 3 I feel are best or mentioned the most I work on).

So the first one I know of is financially independent and I am sorta working on it rn but I need to learn about finance. That's 1, I need 2 more.

Just finished "Akashic records of bastard magic instructor" and it was great. According to the net, season 2 should come out sometime this year.

Did some more Japanese hiragana (I and E) and lofivelcro was right, they're easy enough to remember but I've only done 4 thus far.

I am not going to the gym tonight again. I really need to get a grip or I'll end up in a terrible state later in life but I don't have the motivation to do anything, nothing motivates me enough and I have a far too short attention span. I haven't drawn in a while, need to do a drawing soon.
