I do a Japanese sword art. (I *have done* a little of a lot of things, so I also know some karate, some aikido, some general jujutsu, some kungfu, etc.)

Kanary is it OK to ask a few questions about your Japanese Sword Art?
        1) Is there a technique book or PDF for it? I want to learn sword arts but as I said b4, the only kendo dojo is in Belfast.
        2) Can you do it with a 1 handed sword? It's not possible for me to buy a sword (even wooden) in this country.

          (1) There are a couple of books but none of them are going to actually teach you the art.
          (2) Definitely not. Everything about our training requires a bokken, including that it needs for the blade to be at least slightly curved.

If I were going to try to learn how to use a katana from a book, I might start with Gordon Warner and Junzou Sasamori's This Is Kendo. For something that works with a one-handed sword, I might look at Richard Burton's
New System of Sword Exercise for Infantry. (Links should be to Archive.org and Guternberg.org pages for those books.)

          Good luck!

I'm interested to know where you've found that info. The texts on law in the UK say nothing about wooden swords (or swords in general, except for certain blades). When in doubt, make your own.

Kanary your goal sounds like a great one, I hope it'll work out for you and you can go to Japan next year. Best of luck to you. And good luck on making progress with your other goal (losing weight). Great progress so far.

lofivelcro I just though that was the rules as I tried to buy a wooden katana a while back and it said it doesn't deliver to the UK.

                Kanary Thanks

My best friend did his last two grading test in Japan, the hardest part is mostly being on your own. But I'm sure you'll do great

There are a lot of shops based in the uk that sell wooden swords. Even steel swords (without a sharpened edge). Just have a look and you'll find one.

I shouldn't even be on my own: we usually send a small group of people, so I should have familiar faces and people whose Japanese is much better than mine.

Thanks for your faith in me! I will try not to disappoint!

You will not try, you will do your best. As a wise master once said: Do or do not, there is no try.

Elliptical - From Walking to Running, Day 18 (0.46 mi) - might have more closely resembled 2 min walk, 3 min walk a little faster but it'll do for today

                              The Fold, Level 1
                              Meditation

I learned a new kata last night, so I am extra wiped out today and had a ton of notes I needed to take (and still need to finish), so I opted to doing Level 1 everything and calling it good.
