Hey I am a bit late but still, welcome to the "mighty tribe of Darebee" (I had to cite you here because I laught so hard when I read your greeting), aka. the Hive
And I must say - wow you re killing it. I was reading all you wrote in "Morning" workout and I was thinking "wow pretty good for one day", and then I saw that afterwards you have a whole other section "Main workout", so this was just the beginnig, not even the main part of what you did . So what I am trying to say is - impressive, you are absolutely killing it!!! I am looking forward to reading your log in the future not only because it is very impressive as I mentioned, but also because it is quite entertaining

SheWhoMustNotBeNamed thanks! Nice to hear my babbling is not just putting people to instant sleep i just like exersicing, but i admit i was a very chonky kid, so i got bullied really bad in lower grades, but when i took up physical exersice i kinda found myself a little more. I think sports and working out are just something one should do the way they like- there is no right or wrong way to move, one should do the thing they find interest in that is actually one of my motivations to cheer people on their own workout journeys, and also why i like coaching so much, to see others improve and find more happines. Exercise is of course not the most important thing in life as it should not be- family, overall health etc will always come first, but it can really help to build a strong base layer to everything else! And yeah thanks a lot for kind words, happy to be part of "the mighty tribe"

Would the Wookie have access to technology? Because that's an automatic win! Not to mention the intelligence difference! I'm pretty sure the Wookie would be stronger than an Uruk-Hai, too.

Wookie wins in my book! Fun thought experiment!

Hello hello, Monday’s log post comin up! How has your week started? I hope well. Mine Monday was at the same time busy and pleasing. I had some organizing to do at work, but nothing major. At the same my volunteering work was rather demanding (since this class was full to the brims- I actually held it for 5 people over the normal applicant limit, but since they are free it does not matter. What matters to me is that my students learn this lecture was on social sciences- household economy. I think the class went well and the pupils had many good questions and topics of discussion. I also was active on the exercising front, which I shall delve into now:
Morning: Muay thai class. I really enjoy getting together with our club and just absolutely blasting the routine. This time we went heavy on sparring- 6 rounds of 3mins. Also we did the usual roping, bagwork and mitt works, you know what martial arts are about Overall a good workout. On the spar rounds I got in some nice handwork combined with the low chopping kicks, something I have gotten known to do I guess The kru (senior teacher) who actually taught me way back in basics likes to say that I look like thin wire (since I am rather tall at 1,88m and skinny at around 55kgs, still trying to gain after my ed) but hit like a steel whip. I take it as a great compliment XD As some of you fighters know, usually tall dudes fight the distance game, so nobody really expects me to charge in, and this has won me some wins in comps Then did some cooldown calisthenics with my battlebuddies and walked back home (seriously, if possible, always walk to and from the gym- really helps to set the mood)

Strength work: This time went to workout in my parents house (they work as janitors so they can use apartment gym) gym. Had an upper body day of: 7x8 beamed flatbench press (45kgs), kb overhead press 6x8 (14kgs per arm), 6x8 row (45kgs) and 10-20 abs as active rest between sets. Then tri-set of 3x: close bench 10 reps 40kgs, triceps overhead draw 15 reps 10kgs, high pull 10 reps 12 kgs per arm. Then superset 3x of: concentration curl, 10 reps 12kgs per arm and tricep kickback 12reps 12kgs per arm. Superset nr2, 3x of: rogue row, 10kgs 12 reps per arm, hammer curl, 10kgs 12 reps per arm. Then as a finisher, I did 5 rounds with 14 kgs db max speed, 20 reps each (per arms except the pull up ofc XD) alternating floor press-swing-farmer rise- ground pound- pull up. After this, 100 ab crunches for good measure. As a note- I prefer freeweights over machines any day every day. I feel most machines really restrict your lift, and therefore I don’t get my max power on. Some machines do help on very specific moves and of course, all equipment has its purpose, I just prefer lifting with sparser and simpler kit. Overall, a rather basic but good upperbody day, got all my planned reps in with good form and afterwards felt I had done some good lifting and put on real effort.
Then took my evening powerwalk and did the usual calisthenics of 100 squats push ups and abs.
Something else wonderful happened. No, I did not found the one ring, but my new workout shorts arrived at last Click image for larger version

ID:	799259Im really waiting to wearing these bad boys. So the question is up to you- are these seriously cool or seriously cringe? If it was up to me, I would prolly wear these as my daily wear. I mean the thing about gym gear is that the cooler it looks the better your workout goes- am I right? (you don’t have to lie we all know XD )
What else then? A sunny day. Work project draws close, volunteering class going strong and all is well here in Helsinki. Many people worry about the delta variant of covid, since so many (irresponsible) football fans returned to finland without testing, and writing this the last 3 or so days have already had over 200 new cases and rising. The mayor is considering to stricten the rules again. While I totally understand and if it happens, support this, I still feel cranky if we have to undergo a 4th major wave. The lockdown is no problem- it is the deaths and other harm that follows. My classmate lost his brother to covid in the 1st wave, my neighbor is still in recovery after the 3rd wave and many have lost their jobs and income. One can only hope this slip does not harm us worse.
Hey, you all stay safe now! The world sure is still very much hurt, but I know we can get this over with! Our science and health care has already taken the fight to covid, victory will come! I hope you all a good one fellas!

You get to make the rules in the adventure that is your life. I wouldn't wear them but I like them.

The last time I was going to the gym regularly I liked to go to the functional fitness room, and - this might sound kind of mean - I liked to make other people feel a little uncomfortable. I would set up an agility ladder and a plyomteric course in every open spot, and then when I was done I would bear crawl all over the place. I think in general people in fitness are too concerned about how they look and not how they feel. They worry about doing the machines that everyone else does as opposed to doing what they need to be healthy or just to have a little fun. In short, do what you like and love in fitness and you get back the same

Haha CaptainCanuck that sounds brilliant xD oh i was just kidding, no way im gonna daily wear them xD yeah fitness is not about the looks, but what if my fight gear is just so amazing the next time i step into the ring my opponent has to just look in awe and confusion? That is some serious, deceptive tactical planning there @JCU the best kind of cringe indeed xD

Howdy! Fancy seeing you here! Ya had a dandy time? My Tuesday went well, nothing special but overall a good day. It was again sunny and hot- we finns are not made for this XD Well im not complaining- feels like proper summer. Had a quick conference at work and then had to do some minor admin stuff, but again the workday went quickly by. I have to admit, am very glad to have myself this job, something I can enjoy doing and have a good team at the same time. Hope your jobs are fulfilling as well! Well, ill cut to the point of my todays workouts:
Morning- the usual walk and calisthenics. Just for fun I did count again my reps, they were: 250 push ups, 200 squats, 150 lunges, 150 crunches, 150 bicycs., 100 decline push ups, 100 leg rises, 100 split squats, 75 pike push ups, 80 one legged squats, 50 pseudoplanche push ups and 10 sets of suicide sprinters 30sec. Then the thaiboxing works of: 3x3min rounds of general bagwork, 2x5min rounds, this time only strong kicks. You guys practice too much tkd and karate, you have an influence on me XD then did 2x2 mins of speedbag work. Overall, a normal but good morning routine.
again more walking during the day but I don’t count my steps, so nothing to report
Afternoon, main workout- full body works. This time I decided to do the bog standard legionary WOD (if ltn. Nymann is somehow reading this, yes I used your three pillars of power) Legionary WOD is: after warm up, set timer to 45 mins and do amrap of- Triset 1: Goblet squat (30reps, used 25 kgs) Bicep curl (10 per arm, used 10kgs) rogue row with push ups (12 per side, 10kg). then 20 squats (after every triset)- Floor press (15reps per arm, used 20kg) bulgar split squat (15 per leg, 12kg) rearward knight squat ( 12 reps, 12 kg) then deadlift (30 reps, used 25kgs)- tricep draw (15 per arm, used 10kg)- lunge to overhead (12 reps per side, 10kg). After the 45min timer rings, drop weights and rest for 30 sec. Then 1min of each 10 sec rest: burpee-star jump with squat- kb 180 swing (used 10kg)- punching bicycs.- speed skater- alternating power clean to press (used 10kg) sprint tuck jumps- uneven push ups- v ups- jumping goblet squat to high pull (used 10kgs)- thurster (10kg)- mountain mule (mountain climbers with mule kicks)- ab crunces (used 10 kg plate)-goblet squat hold (10kg). A very basic fullbody WOD if you are into “functional workouts” (a term I hate as described before). Our trainer, ltn. Nymann used to run this on us whenever we were at garrison duty over weekends, so we did this on Saturdays and Sundays. Fun times, he was much more into fitness than many other trainer officers and he drilled us hard, but we grew to really appreciate him. Just to say, if you read this (I know you sometimes used to visit these pages), thanks for all the stupid marching drills XD Kidding, I have fond memories of my service if my knee injury does not count
Then before writing this, walk and the usual calisthenics to top off the day.
Many thanks Outis ! I just find working out something that has a certain calling- it gets me into the mindset I want to be in. Many times I find media and other sources poison our vision about “fitness” and “health”- they become a toxic burden to bear. I feel we all should find our own way to enjoy exercise whatever it might be! And what comes to superpowers, sir after reading yours post I can say that I have a feeling you have been discovering them in yourself As a fellow gladiator to another gladiator I can say that if we keep putting in the work, results always follow as in everything, not just in working out! Perhaps we can both utilize some of that secret power in our glorious journey trough the sands and pits of the imperial arenas. Morituri te salutant XD
So, what more to add? Nothing special I quess. Covid situation worsening, again there has been much more infections and it seems likely the restrictions will return soon, since Helsinki is now again much worse affected than other parts of the country ☹. Unfortunately the fatality rate has also risen… Something brighter to say, is that our block has managed to reorganize its elderly help teams (volunteers who help those who are in isolation/ cant otherwise do somethings). I belong to a response team of 3, and one of the members is along time friend of mine. We mostly go do groceries, do cleaning, small repairs and such. Although this 4th wave has not been so busy. Is your community organizing communal help during covid?
Well, another long-ish post done, hopefully yall have a mighty fine day and stay safe pardners. Saddle up, and YEEHAW!

You make me feel so freaking bad eating potato chips right now.

Covid hit hard for some people here. I would say single parent households were most attacked with isolations and financials. I had luck. My wife managed the state affairs for foreigners/non-German speakers. Now she works again in gastronomy.

I think it’s outstanding to help people in need around you! We have trouble about the smallest things here in my house.. garbage in basement and stuff. I wish our community would stick together as yours.

and boy your daily routine is insane.

Hi bees, how are you doing? I personally had another normal but good day, hope yours was too! At work, things went smoothly. Our team finished the descriptions on the product line we were researching the sales potential on, so this means the project is nearly over. Then, I plan to take on another task- to start preparing my masters thesis More on that soon, I promise. I actually look forward to it, and to the next semester since the previous was spent on my teacher training program. This will be my last year at uni then! But, now lets get to my workouts of the day, they were as follows:
Morning: Muay thai class. Today was again my turn to plan the routine (in our gym we more experienced fighters take turns leading the lessons). And, as you can guess, when I lead, we do technical tricky kicks and finetune our precision. NO ☹ WE USE FISTS LIKE REAL WARRIORS WE ARE XD but seriously I focused our technique part mainly on close combat (punches, knees, elbows, clinch) because that is the area im most competent in. We did the normal conditioning works, and combat works were 5x3 min of hard sparring, 3x5 mins of full power bag and target work and 4x3 rounds of “stand and bang” work- close combat in a small marked part of the tatami. This is to simulate close combat in limited space. Even if I say it myself, I think the class was fine and a good workout with a solid base in some heavy combat work.
Strength work: Lower body day. Farmer grip squats 8x15 reps, 40kgs. Straight leg deadlift 6x10 reps, 40kgs. Lunges 6x14 reps, 30kgs. Then superset 1 of 3 sets: Jumping goblet squat 25kgs 15 reps- single Romanian deadlift 20kgs 8reps. Superset 2 of 3 sets: plyo split squat 10kgs 12 reps per leg- Cossack squat 10kgs 20 reps. Cycler squats, 3 sets of 12 reps 20 kgs. Superset 3 of 3 sets: jumping lunges, 10 kgs 12 reps per leg- spartan squats, 15 kgs 15 reps. 2 sets of Calf rises, 25 reps per leg, 12 kgs. 2 sets of Glute bridges, 25 reps per leg, 12 kgs. Then as a finisher I did the run of (50sec each 10 sec rest): High knees- star jump squat- 10 kgs kb 180 swing- sprinting burpees- close to wide squats with jump- jumping squat and then did this back to high knees, rested 10 sec and did a goblet squat hold (10kg) for 1 min. Lastly did 100 ab crunches with a 5 kg plate. So this leg day was about getting some air with many weighted plyometric exercises! Combining plyos with more time-under-tension heavy work actually turned out well- balanced but hard workout. As a note to self an others: Weighted jump lunges comboed with sparta squats are literally the best way to experience being in midst of a panicking yak herd without travelling to inner Mongolia, since both have a same effect: If you don’t die, you will require a wheelchair for a good while to move XD Seriously, TRY OUT this superset- it is some seriously challenging work. You have to manage both up and down explosive movement whilst controlling the anti rotational move. But remember you have been warned XD
Then took the walk and did the calisthenics.
Like I said, a good day in many aspects. Listened to War at the Edge of the World from audible while walking. I like historical fiction (yes, you know I am a huge nerd ), can recommend the book highly. Not only is the story good, but the reader Jonathan Keeble doing impressive work bringing the roman world alive. Weather was good, warm again. Today they released info of an archeological find, a decorated staff with a snakehead carving dated from around 2000bce in a swamp near Humppila. Being a history student I found this bit interesting, and mention it instead of repeating all the covid stuff. Cant really yap about it everyday right, we need some other news as well
and Outis good to hear you have fared well, im happy for you and wish you both the best in these crazy times! And stay safe!
I hope you had good day as well. Remember to keep being awesome and keep pushing on to whatever you have your sights set on- you go! Have a fine one all! 😊

Outis haha thank you I actually strated my studies at the line of military science, but the line got cut since the funding went away, and i was transferred to the line of general history, which is not even in my original faculty XD Sometimes the cross-faculty stuff makes thing difficult but i consider that despite everything my studies have went rather well Yeah we are working on the sales and sale potential research with security (fire, alarm services etc.) providers, i actualy had worked in this same company last summer as a summer employee as well, so i managed to get my old place back for this summer I am very lucky to hold this job and have found it fun and challenging at the same time- and it has provided me with some good experience on working with varied projects (something which i am by no means a natural talent XD )

Let us gather once more around this virtual campfire to tell tales of our deeds today! How are thing going, bees? I had a nice day full of things to do, but got trough it without issue. Normal workstuff got done fine, and had another volunteer class, this time I lectured about the Hellenistic period. It was again good to see so many attended (via zoom, but still) and I felt the lecture went well. This class has a test soon on the course (“history of the antiquity”), and im eagerly awaiting to see their scores. However, as I have explained, since the course is more about the language skill, our main refugee administrator will be doing the actual scoring.

As for working out, I got in my usual routine, a morning calisthenic/combat-cardio works and the main strength workout. Morning routine was rather standard, except for the fact that I decided to tweak the combat works so that I did 6 rounds of 3 mins and only 1 rounds of 5 and 2 mins. This was to 1. break the pacing up and to 2. lengthen the general bagwork time and to add in more combination work. Adding more time to this meant I could chain responsive combinations (techniques that reflect one other- like long strikes and charging kicks) more fluidly. Overall, a good workout.

For the afternoon workout, I had an upperbody day. I did pyramid lifts of 16x2-12x2-8x2-10x1 (last set is a downstep from the max amount lifted- this method is called stepped pyramid work) reps of: Alternating bench, 17-22-28kgs per arm and then alternating overhead press of 10-12-17 kgs per arm. Then a straight set of 5sets10reps of rows, 15kgs per arm. Then did a triset, 3 sets of: Bicep curl, 10 reps, kickback, 10 reps, cross draw to negative, 10 reps (all per arm, 12kgs) Then superset 1 of 3 sets of: Arnold press, 8 reps 10kgs- suitcase grip row, 14 reps 12kgs per arm. Superset 2, 3sets of: Twisting bench press, 10 reps 18kgs per arm- overhead draw, 12reps 10 kgs. Then as a finisher, did a runtrough of (30 sec each, no rest between, when got to last exercise did the run backwards): Star jump-alternating swing (10kg)- alternating clean-to-thrust (10kg)- row to curl (10kg)- mountain climber- jumping squat. Then lastly I did 50 reps of kettlebell v-ups (10kgs) and 50 reps of punching bicycles.
So I decided to do some pyramid work to sub my normal volume-based work for more powerful lifts. I find neither modality superior, they fit different aims. More volume with explosiveness in main lifts is better for enhancing overall work capacity, while shorter sets allow for more burst energy. As for trisetting the arm-isolation work, it has no inherent advantages or shortcomings compared to supersets- this set gave me the ability to work on wider areas and angles of armwork, at the cost of more targeted work (such as concentration curls). Its completely up to oneself what modalities suits them best. Also the finisher was good, nothing too noteworthy. I tend to favor the mentality that every lifting session should have a finisher of sorts- it’s a mental game. “All reps done”- no, still have some extra do, don’t leave with gas in tank 😉. Then did the normal evening routine.

What else? Morning saw some rain, but day was again hot and sunny. The city was again rather depopulated, as it has been for the whole pandemic. Some places have the feeling of a literal ghost town, and since Helsinki is a small city for a capital (around 630k inhabitants in greater area), the feeling is enhanced. Im very happy for my friends, since now we all have had our first vaccines. My parents get their second shots perhaps already during the summer Oh and another funny-ish thing is, that due to lack of traffic, some “city bunnies” have been out in open during the days (the urban rabbit population is normally nocturnal active)
I think this is all there is to say. I really hope you all have a great day and that your July is a good month for yourselves and everyone close to you. Keep doing the thing, stay safe, stay cool. Bye and have a good one!
