    Trying to Improve

    Hello Random Reader!

    This past year and exercise have not gone very well together for me. Between working from home (or less time out of my office chair) and being a new Mom (constantly exhausted), I've had trouble doing anything consistently. Then in January of 2021 I experienced concussion symptoms that left me unable to do much physical activity for 2.5 months! This meant a lot of time just laying down since even moving around sometimes would make me dizzy or increase my headache.

    Ever since my symptoms have cleared up, I have felt uncomfortable, just in my body in its current state. I know that part of it is the extra pounds that my body is carrying. I have been trying to be active more often, taking breaks during the workday or going on more walks in the evening, but it hasn't been very successful or consistent.

    I am hoping by starting to do some Darebee programs and by writing check-ins that this will help me stay on track on be more consistent.

    So that is a bit about me, where I'm starting from, and what the plan is. So let's get this thing started!

    Plan:
    My plan is to take some short breaks during the work day. This means I'll need to try to do find time on weekends (maybe while my son is napping) to get my workouts in. I am going be kind to myself though. If I am not able to fit in workouts on the weekend, that will be OK.

    - Arms of Steel Day 1, 5 sets
    - Totals Day 1

                Thank you everyone for the warm welcome! I'm excited to get started on this work and can already see that this is going to be a great community for that.


                Yesterday I completed Day 1 of Arms of Steel and Totals. I had been planning on adding 10 General Fitness and to do that first thing in this morning. Unfortunately I woke up today with a massive headache on the right side of my head (around and behind my right eye). I am now at a "I can function" level of pain, but not clear enough to want to get my blood pumping, so I'm going to hold off on that. Maybe I'll try it this evening or else I can try tomorrow morning. I still plan on doing Arms of Steel and Totals Day 2 today though.

                Thoughts on Today's Workouts:
                Wow, today's Arms of Steel is way harder for me then yesterday's. I have very poor arm strength, which is why I picked this one. I could feel yesterday's workout of scissor cuts, scissor chops, arm circles, and chest expansions, but today's push-ups, shoulder touches, and plank rotations are killer for me. Looks like these days wont be as common. If they were more common, I might be worried that this program was the wrong level for me.

                    This morning I woke up a little sore in the arms and shoulders. Not a surprised with the Arms of Steel day yesterday. I didn't have a headache this morning so I was able to do a 10 General Fitness workout to start the day. I did look at the workouts for Arms of Steel and Totals today. Unfortunately the Day 3 Totals workout is very much like yesterday's Arms of Steel workout. Since I still have soreness from yesterday, I'm going to do the Totals Day 4 workout today instead and then do Day 3 tomorrow to give my arms a little more rest time.

                    Thoughts on Today's Workouts:
                    A have a decent number of upper body muscles which still feel a little sore from yesterday. I keep trying to stretch throughout the day to loosen them up a bit. Its been a while since I've felt even a little sore like this, so definitely a good sore. Oh and apparently my core muscles are also way worse then I thought they were. The Totals work out today was harder then I thought it was going to be.

                      Happy Monday!

                      I was at a location with no internet this weekend, so I didn't do any check-ins. I also didn't really have the time or space to do my Programs, but I wasn't super concerned because I had started this deciding I was going to be kind to myself and allow myself to make reasonable judgement calls, especially on the weekend. You see, in the past I have had times where I've missed a couple days for one reason or the other, and then never gotten back into the routine because I was in "avoidance" mode. I was avoiding because I didn't want to make myself feel bad that I was, in fact, human, and sometimes have * checks notes * life thing happen that are unavoidable. So this time, I'm being kinder in hopes it will help me stick with the Programs.

                      So, over the weekend I only completed the following:
                      - Arms of Steel Day 4

                      But today is Monday and I'm getting back at it!

                      Thoughts on Today's Workouts:
                      No real thoughts today on workout. Exercises were a good level. I did feel sore or overly exhausted afterwards, which is very helpful as being overly tired or sore can impact how well I'm able to play and do evening activities with my son after work.

                      One thing I have found is that every time I do an exercise where I lay on or am close to the ground, my puppers comes over. She either lays next to me if I'm face down, like for push-ups, or sits next to me and looks down into my face, like for situps. Her face is like "Play? Scratches? Need help?". And don't worry, she definitely always get scratches between sets.

                          Thoughts on Today's Workouts:
                          My legs are really feeling sore this afternoon. Maybe from the Totals workout? Not sure. I didn't completely finish the Totals work out for today. I accidently fell asleep while getting my son to sleep, so I could finish the last 10 reps of each exercise. I'm going to mark it as not completed and come back to it again at the end.
