Ho ho ho! I is back with another weekly update.

So my experiment with the pre-workout was kind of interesting: I didn't take any today. I noticed a difference; I didn't feel as sleepy and tired as before (as I type this I'm yawning, however). I may have to cut my intake, perhaps completely. Eh, I'm sure I can lift okay without it.

I've mostly stuck to my diet very well; I eat the occasional snacks (like gummies and chocolate), but not in the quantities of my bingeing. Now I have to keep this up for weeks. Crap.

    Oh, and today's workout:

Deadlifts: 5 sets of 4, maxed at 120
    Underhand grip rows: 5x4
    One handed barbell rows: 5x6
    Machine lat pulldowns: 5x8

Today marks my return to deadlifting after my finger injury. How the hell I hurt my finger is beyond me. Overuse?. I deliberately did the deadlifts carefully and with light weight... felt good to do 'em again.

Better get some sleep so I can be ready for Band practice tomorrow. See you round, Bees!

I listened to this today at the gym:

Hi Bees. I forgot to post my last workout, but that's okay.

I went on a long walk (for me, anyway) today, of about 11,000 steps. Good to get about for a bit and just walk. I plugged in a podcast (The now-defunct PC Gamer webcast) and just lapped the local racecourse. The weather was a bit stuffy today, but I just focused on the walk, and did doggo spotting as well. Saw a Corgi, Great Pyreneese, and a bunch of mutts.

On a more serious note, I compare myself to others too much. I saw someone else on instagram setting new lifting PRs and celebrating a new relationship, and just wanted to bang my head against the wall. It's a process that's been ingrained over the years, and sometimes I need to chill, just focus on me, and do the things that satisfy me - like working out! That's why posting on this board is so helpful.

Hope that something chills you out today, Bees.

I listened to the ever-reliable Sturgill Simpson while doing my paces.

Comparison is a tricky thing -- it's easy to say 'just compare yourself to who you were yesterday' but it can be easier said than done. This is in part why I don't go on Instagram and Facebook -- too much unhelpful comparison. I find Darebee to be motivating rather than comparin which is why I stick around. Glad you can focus on working out for now, and I hope you can stick with it -- best of luck!

stephenphillips42 Thank you for your support. I do largely avoid FB and Instagram because they're just recipes for frustration. I like to post and hang out around Darebee because I feel parts of my best side come out: the part that wants to encourage others and watch them grow.

Speaking of growth, I'm sure hoping that's what my muscles did today (hur hur hur). Today was chest day. I wanted to hit another PR but within a few sets, I knew it was a no go. Oh well.

Bench Press: 120, 125, 127.5, 130, 132.5 (only managed four reps of this)
Incline Bench: 7 sets (didn't go too heavy)
Shoulder Press 5 sets (Went up to 65 kg, I think)

Had a cup of ice cream as a treat, but otherwise it's diet all the way.

Catch you on the flipside, Bees!

This song has been on my mind a lot...

Don't beat yourself up too much. Just remember it may be a pile of poo but it is your pile of poo and poo grows amazing things. Being all motivational and stuff over here. Plus you have some beastly numbers going on the bar.

Thank you Azercord. Props to your oly lifting as well, it takes remarkable skill.

              Yo yo yo!

It seems like forever since I did leg day... I blame Resi Village; I'm replaying it for the third time. That speaks to how well-made and fun the game is. I also bought Doom Eternal, so my exercise routine is likely to go down the tube. But I can't let that happen

              Today...

Squats: 8 sets, up to 110 (light day. Wasn't feeling it)
              Paused squats: 6 sets
              Front Squats: 4 sets
              Leg Press: 4 sets

It looks like a quiet week, but I'm going to have more work coming in. The weather is getting warmer and muggier; I miss winter already.

Kinda had this one stuck in my head.

                Hey Bees!

My legs are totally mush today, so it's good to have done some upperbody work instead today.

                Bench Press: Paused: Six sets
                Spoto Press: 6 sets
                Incline Bench: 6 sets

Tough day, but I feel nice and sore. The heat is even worse than yesterday!

I also went to band practice today! I need to practice more, but it's still fun to fit into a groove and play along with other people.

We played songs from Hendrix, Clapton, and Gary Moore.

Going to tune out, have a nice one, Bees, and stay safe, healthy and happy!

I haven't listened to this song in more than ten years. Good to hear it again.

Hey all! Just another workout day. More emphasis on deadlifts this time, though I find them harder than squats. Giggity.

Deadlifts: 6 sets (Worked up to 140 kg x 4)
                  Dumbbell dual rows: 4 sets
                  Machine rows: 4 sets
                  Narrow grip rows: 4 sets

Watched Castlevania on Netflix, stellar action scenes, bizarre absences from certain characters, and some surprisingly moving parts. So here's a Castlevania throwback!

I love your musical updates, I LOVE Sturgill Simpson. Also Castelvania, great choice! (:
Anyway, keep up the great work, your deadlifts are very very impressive.

motionaction Ha, you've got good taste! Castlevania is awesome, I started out playing Symphony of the Night as a kid. Thanks for the encouragement!

Ox gon' give it to ya!

That should be my new motto from now on, haha.

Today was Chest day. Wasn't really feeling it, but still did okay.

Bench Press: 125, 127.5, 130, 132.5, 135 x 5 (I might've been able to do more had I not warmed up with all those sets).
                      Incline Bench: Six sets
Shoulder Press Machine (because I got sick of doing the barbell version):
Lateral raises: I'm very weak in these. Perhaps evidence that you don't need to have strong side shoulders to be a bencher.

I have a mess of teaching to make my way through, but I look forward to the first round finishing tomorrow. Have a good one, Bees!

While DMX would be an appropriate song, I've been stuck on this song I remembered from 14 (!) years ago, and never bothered to actually find. It's quite catchy, twisted, and homicidal, so naturally me likey

"La la la la la la la la la lie lie lie"

Thank you Colin. The student is 7 years old, and I'm more of a high school/adult teacher, but it went well overall. Kid does get bored easily, though!

Nothing special today. Had a few lessons early on, then shot off to the gym.

Squats: 10 sets (worked up to 120... will try for more next time)
                          Front Squats: 5 sets
                          Split Squats: 5 sets

I went to the dentist again... It was the second part of a crown procedure. I'm not complaining, it's excellent work, but man do I need to treat my teeth better! Going to instill that in everyone I meet. It's one of those somewhat less obvious parts of a person, compared to your clothing, hairstyle, or physical appearance, but it'll cost you dearly if you neglect it.

Absolutely love this song from The Smashing Pumpkins:

I have the attention span of a 7 year old, so I'm on the kid's side here.

I had the same realisation 2 years ago. Now I'm extra careful.

Colin Yeah, I admit that it's hard when they're that age.
miawtthias I'm starting to learn that lesson myself. Behooves one to properly care for their teeth.

Hey again Bees! Haven't posted in a few days because... I forgot to.

I've just been taking it easy, teaching a few classes, and getting to the gym. I realized that my weight has gone up to 84 kg... for a guy who's 165 cm, that's unusually heavy. I'm convinced that most of it is muscle mass, but I still don't feel like carrying all that weight around.

                                Today's was Chest Day
                                Bench Press: 125 x 5, 137.5 x 5 (PR), 140 x 2, 140 x 2
                                Decline Press: 4 sets
                                Incline Press: 4 sets

So I hit another PR, despite the persistent soreness that's been lodged in my left side upper chest. I'm approaching my old level of strength - must be because I'm putting on weight/muscle. My short-term target is to hit 140 five times. I haven't even thought about a one rep max. It used to bother me a lot (ie trying to be a competitive lifter), but I take solace in the (paraphrased) words of Alan Thrall:

                                "Have you tried caring less?"

Unlike trimming my weight for health reasons, pushing big lifting numbers is something I do for fun, now. I'm not as strong as when I was in my 20s. While I do care, and seek to improve my technique gradually, it's just not worth really investing too much time and energy in. There are more important things.

For today's song, more synths. It makes me satisfied when I dive into the synthwave section of youtube and come out with a new find!
