(What does that photo have to do with squatting? Beats me.)

    Squats: 6 x 5
    Pause Squats: 6 x 5
    Seated Squats: 6 x 5

Quiet Sunday. Spent some time preparing for my lessons and enjoying some good TV shows (Breaking Bad and Calls). I get my first jab of the vaccine next Thursday.

    Have a good one, Bees!

This is a gorgeous and haunting song from the movie "Come True". Highly recommended for fans of atmospheric, dread-filled horror.

      Nice biceps!

Manuela Thank you, that's kind of you! A lot of it is lighting and perspective.

So I hit my first plateau today. Got to the gym, went through my warm up... just wasn't feeling it. Couldn't lift as heavy as before. Oh well; these things happen.

        Bench (for five reps each): 100, 105, 110, 115, 120, 125
        Shoulder Press: 6 x 5
        Decline Press: 6 x 5
        Dips (As a bonus): 3 x 12

Hopefully my back workout tomorrow turns out okay; my hand injury prevents me from deadlifting at the moment.

        See ya round, Bees!

I miss the good old days of alternative rock...

Wow, I change avatars a lot. Hopefully this one will stick!

Back day today, for the first time in awhile... six sets for each of the following:

          Barbell Rows
          Machine Rows
          One-Armed Machine Row
          Dumbbell Alternating Row
          Face Pulls

So... overkill? Eh, what else is new. Wait, I know.

FLUFFY BUNNOS! A new rabbit store opened up nearby, which gives me an(other) excuse to ooh and aah over fuzzy little creatures.

Going to head out for now, take care of yourselves, Bees!

I listened to this song while heading to the gym...

Ooops, I keep forgetting to update with my workouts.

                  Leg Day:
                  Squats: 6 sets
                  Paused Squats: 6 sets
                  Front Squats: 6 sets

So... I've been gaining weight throughout quarantine. I have so many days where I just binge on snacks and surrender to my cravings.

                  That stopped several days ago.

I think the straw that broke the camel's back was stepping on the scales and seeing that I was 83 kg, and unable to fit into my old clothes!. Previously, I weighed 8 kg less. I bought some oatmeal and dried fruits and have been using those to take care of my need for snacks. It's pretty hard... I'm going to have to keep this up for weeks to see results, and the last time I did this, it didn't feel so difficult. But that's alright... once you get the ball rolling, it won't stop so easily. It's not a conclusion, but a process.

                  Take care of yourselves, Bees!

There's a great groove to this track, and it kicks major butt:

Keep forgetting to update. Bad Ox! Lazy Ox! Sleepy Ox.

The past few days I've done well with my diet and exercise. Today was Chest day.

                    Bench Press: 125 x 6, 127.5 x 6 (a PR!), 130 x 3 (my strength failed at this point), 120 x 5 for two sets.
Incline Press: Six sets. Lost track of the weights.
Decline Chest Press: Six sets. Lost track of the weights.

Also did 10,000 steps for the first time in ages. Usually I can't muster up the desire to do more than 4000.

Yesterday was Ching Ming. Today I went with my parents to the cemetery to pay my respects to my grandfather. In Hong Kong (and presumably, the rest of China) we do this by cleaning our ancestors' graves and placing flowers by them. I noted to myself that this is one of the few ways that I explicitly hew to Chinese culture; much of me was raised with Western leanings.

Take care, Bees! I hope you had a good Easter holiday (for those who celebrate)!

I listened to this while ambling around....

Come on, GentleOx, be gentle with yourself

Manuela That's very kind of you. I'm better at being gentle with other people but I have trouble being nice to myself; it's something I'm working on.

Nothing special today; it was the tail end of Easter holiday, so I went to the gym to do my usual workout and diet.

                        Back workout:

                        Wide grip rows: 4 x 6
                        Reverse grip rows: 4 x 6
                        Behind the next pulldowns: 4 x 8
                        Machine rows: 4 x 8
Alternating dumbbell rows: 4 x 16 (ugh, totally gassed by this point)

                        Brunch: Sandwich
                        Preworkout: Protein Shake
                        Postworkout: Oatmeal
Dinner: Rice with Asparagus and Minced Beef
End of day "snack": Protein Shake

Not exactly picture-perfect healthy, mind you. I've seen what neilarey eats, eg, and that's the real deal. I'm much lazier and prone to taking shortcuts.

Tomorrow I get my vaccine. Will update on how it goes, and whether or not I experience any reactions.

                        See you round, Bees!

Been in a very synthwave-y mood this week.

Hmmm, sounds familiar... have a good vax day tomorrow!

Congrats on the bench press PR!

Thank you Manuela and sunpetal !

Once again, I forgot my workout update (yesterday). That's okay, because I went again today and had a great session.

                              Bench Press: 100 x 5, 125 x 8, 125 x 3 (At this point, had run out of energy)
                              Incline Press: 5 sets
                              Shoulder Press: 5 sets
                              Dips: 3 sets

I thought I'd expand on the topic of warming up because... well, I mostly don't. Or at least, not in the fashion that most athletes do. I don't stretch before lifting (never saw the point), and have never done full body warm ups either (like light cardio). I don't even work with bands, which I hear are supposed to be more practical.

Granted, that doesn't mean I do nothing. I don't just get into the gym, load up 125 kg on the bar and start pressing. I go from the bar, to 60 kg, to 80 kg, to 100 kg, and then my usual weight. When I was a kid, I would start with 100 kg, but these days, I've chosen to be more methodical. So what I'm trying to say is that my warm up is very specific, particularly with compound movements like the squat. I believe in imitating the movement done as a means of preparing for it... and what better way than to start with light weight?

Anyway, going to get off my soapbox now. My vaccine shot went okay, except that there was such demand that I had to wait in line for an extra hour before receiving it! When I did get it, it was practically painless. I was sore for a day, but I'm back to my usual nonsense. We'll see how that second shot pans out, though...

Have a good one, fellow Bees!

                              Back to (old) school:

I'm glad you were able to get your first vaccine dose!
