      Hi everyone! Been awhile. It's not that I've stopped exercising, but more that I keep forgetting to update. But I'm still deffo working out, believe you me.

      I clocked five workout days last week; the idea is to work my chest and legs (maaaaybe back) twice a week, but my nutrition's been rather sketchy. I'm going to try something different now, I'll see if it works out in a few days.

      Today's workout:
      Bench Press: 5 sets (120kg at max)
      Incline Press: 5 sets
      Close-grip Press: 5 sets
      Cable press down: 5 sets

      I'm working part-time at the moment. When things die down, I'm hoping to visit some family in New York, though I don't have a set plan for that.

            Today is back day. I can't deadlift at the moment because there's pain in my fingers... maybe I did something to the ligaments? Anyway, my general pull exercises weren't affected.

            Barbell Row: 5 x 6
            Machine Overhead Rows
            Behind the Neck Pulldowns: 5 x 6
            Dumbbell Alternating Rows: 5 x 16
            Face Pulls: 5 x 10

            NB I do a *lot* of sets for my back. I don't really know why, it just feels great, and I do take inspiration from bodybuilding in my lifting routines. I lift because I enjoy lifting: simple as that. That said, on chest and leg day, I don't really lay on much volume.

            The days roll on. I'm still waiting for them to allow the general populace to get vaccines, but I'm grateful to be well in the meantime. Stay safe, Bees!

            Today I listened to this really good song I'd first heard of 11 years ago.

              Folks. I did, like, all the squats today. They weren't heavy, but man did they hit hard.

              Barbell Squats: 6 sets (90 kg at max)
              Pause Squats: 6 sets of 3 reps
              Front Squats: 6 sets

              My legs are positively going to be toast tomorrow. I might as well make up for my inability to deadlift (stupid hand problem). I sense that my journey back to strength is going to be gradual, and not forced. Plateaus will be hit. Just as long as the gyms stay open, I'll be fine.

                So it looks like the gyms are going to close again. Rats! I was enjoying my workouts a great deal.

                Today was chest day. I hit another PR... This is exceptional progress for me (upping my 5 rep max 10 kg over the course of four weeks), but I don't think this is my muscles getting bigger, more the case of my body getting used to moving weight again. It's not as if my muscles have grown significantly.

                Chest day
                Bench Press: 6 x 5 (125kg at max)
                Shoulder Press: 6 x 5
                Incline Press: 6 x 5

                Plus I plan to do some pushups later.

                I'll see how things pan out in the next few days. Infections are rising...

                I'm a big fan of this song. Today it acted as my preworkout...

                      I'm going to get in as many gym visits as I can. Today was leg day.

                      Squats: 6 x 5
                      Pause Squats: 6 x 5
                      Leg Extensions: 6 x 8

                      While I'll never consider squats fun, they're a lot more satisfying now that I've revised my form and learned to do them correctly (I injured my hip flexor in the past doing them incorrectly).

                      I also went to grab some dim sum for dinner. Behold GentleOx vs The Chinese Language:

                      As someone who was raised speaking English my Cantonese is abysmal! I understand enough to order food, but it definitely took me a few minutes.

                      I also saw some charity doggos nearby. My fear of the pandemic wasn't enough to stop me from giving them a few pets.

                        Hey Bees!
                        I forgot to post yesterday's workout, here it is:

                        Bench Press: 6 x 5 (hit 127.5 kg five times! A new PR. Again...)
                        Incline Smith Machine: 6 x 5
                        Close-grip chest press + flyes: 3 x 8 (I didn't really like these. I used to do flyes all the time, but this time it felt like they were screwing up my shoulders).

                        I binged ate today... I really need to stop doing that. I mean, I quit drinking and I quit smoking, so why is this so freaking hard? Umph.

                        Great news for me, the gov't has opened up vaccination slots for my (old man) age group. So I'm getting my injection next Thursday. I'm not worried about myself; I'm 35, and even though I'm overweight, I have no real health conditions. I'm more worried about my mom, who will take it a day later.

                          I managed to get an appointment for vaccination for next week, since I work in a university library, but today vaccination with AstraZeneca have been suspended so I'm not sure I'm going to get it anymore. I wasn't worried because a lot of people I know already did it and had nothing more than some fever. However, finger crossed!

                            So I hit another bench PR. I think that this hot streak may be fizzling, cause I fought pretty hard to lift it.

                            Chest Day

                            Bench Press (all in 5 reps): 100, 120, 125, 130(!), 120, 100
                            Overhead press: 5 x 5
                            Incline Chest Press: 7 x 5

                            Absolutely pooped. Was going out to rehearse with my band later, but that'll have to wait. Better prep for my classes tomorrow and enjoy some Halo! Have a nice one, folks!
