Glad that you all like the videos ... because i have plenty other videos in my playlist

mavie Yes, finding and hitting the landing spot is pretty exciting. Finding the landing spot is often not that hard because you basically get an introduction or have to get an introduction to the flying sites.
Oftentimes there are also posters at the launch showing you the topology and where the landing spot is, where dangerous areas are (power lines etc.).
I becomes really exciting if due to too much headwind etc. you are unable to reach the official landing spot. That's when you need to become creative and find a "cosy" place to land in a village nearby etc.

Gandhalfit What happened in the last 10 years that makes you not try it today but you would have tried 10 years ago? Just curious.

Mamatigerj You could still get a taste of hanggliding in a tandem flight if you wanted to. If done in aero tow (behind a plane) it's really easy and can be done at pretty much any age and most physical conditions.
In the states there is for example the "Wallaby Ranch":

It's a longish video but very well made, encouraging and uplifting

I now need to get back into a workout rhythm. It's a bit hard because i have been pretty busy after coming back from the hanggliding vacancy because my car basically broke down.
I left the glider in slovenia for the other folks to transport it back up. So i had one week to buy another (used) car, get it registered, get rid of my old car, get new mounting stuff for the roof mounting stuff etc. and
pick up my glider last sunday here in bavaria. All this is now done, the work week is nearing it's end and the family vacancies are coming up.
So i'm really looking forward to have some relaxed time in the mountains.
Actually the location where we will stay for the family trip is not really far from slovenia and there are also other flying sites.
My original plan was to leave the glider at home to have less hassle with moving this large, bulky stuff around. But my wife said she wouldn't mind and if i want to show her the flying sites in slovenia on a day trip i could as well take the glider with me and go for a flight. Let's see. Probably i need to call the hotel and ask if they happen to have some place where i might put the glider. I don't want to drive around with this 5+ m thing on the car all the time
And: in about one month there is the half-marathon in a nearby town. I registered for it some time ago but my training status is... well.... bad .. non-existent ..
Let's see how it goes. The good thing is that this run is composed of multiple rounds around the same track and you can quit after each round (of ~5.3km).
So i guess i will try to around 15km and then drop out.

Good luck with the new car and the marathon preps.
I found out I'm scared of a lot of things and trying to pretend otherwise doesn't help.

Yeah…great video. If you keep posting those i maybe want to try that myself. Except for the landing.
I wish you a great vacation, especially after all the trouble with the car. Enjoy, relax and maybe fly high.
            Good luck with everything.

Gandhalfit Thx, i really hope / am quite optimistic that the new car will work at least for some years without major problems. Marathon preps ... well, let's see how far i get. But thanks a lot for the wishes, i guess the 15km could be doable.
Regarding being scared, i understand it to the fullest. But oftentimes taking small steps out of your comfort zone make you realize that it's not that bad/scary out there. And then you take another step.. and another step.
You'll be amazed where you end up. At least for me it's really the case. I never would have thought that i would fly a hangglider 5 years from now. I would have called you a complete looney.
For example, because i did not know if i could handle the heights i took a paragliding tandem flight in south tyrol and realized that it's not a problem (and i was scared af at the launch). Then i took a hangglider "tasting day" including a short tandem flight (also pretty tense). I was interested in starting the basic education but was also quite scared. What then happened was basically a really weird combination of me and a friend of mine. I wanted to take hanggliding lessons but was too scared. I talked so much about it that a friend of mine also was interested to at least do a tandem flight. He was extremely scared before the flight. After the flight he was another person. He looked smiling at the other tandems taking off and so i could convince him to take the basic course along with me (10 tandem flights with a hanggliding instructor). Each flight was getting more and more demanding until the instructor said at the launch: "You're in command. I'll take off my hands and just watch your flight". But each of these thrilling experiences made me grow my confidence in my flying abilities.
At the end of the course my friend was the first to do his first solo flight and he promised to the tow pilot to at least do the aero-tow solos (10 flights). Of course i followed him. From then on things spiralled on and on... we basically pushed/pulled ourselves more and more down into the hanggliding rabbit hole .
It was and still is a crazy adventure into unknown lands. To me it's my way of enjoying my midlife crisis

mavie Yeah, flying high is a good goal/target. If you want to try it yourself just let me know. There are some places where you can do tandem flights in germany. On these flights you can concentrate completely on enjoying the flight. Everything else will be done by the pilot. When on final altitude it should be no problem that you do some steering practices with the glider. It's not really hard. A lot of things with weight shift have a similar steering (e.g. riding a bike without hands, a skateboard).

                  Thanks Nebulus
I already saved the list of places you posted recently. I'll come back to you once i get serious about that idea, i need a bit more stability on the ground again first, but i am truly interested.
