            TopNotch I’m not really beating myself up over it. It’s just frustrating to me when two of the things I love most (reading and writing) are hard to do and not because of lack of time. Just when I can’t bring myself to. The other goals are things that I’d ideally like to accomplish, but it doesn’t bother me either way.

            On the languages, last year I had maybe 15 languages going at one time. I was practicing them on Duolingo every day, doing more lessons in French. This was obviously too much, even though I did manage it most days. This year I decided to break it up, do French every day and the other languages that I’ve picked on their set day. This works for me and it doesn’t feel daunting. I tried to quickly review my Anki cards in each language every day (usually around 1-2 minutes for each language) to keep things fresh, which worked until I fell out of the habit. I have a physical language journal going in each language where I write down the new words/sentences I learn and I transfer those to Anki so I can study them. I’m still working on smoothing things out, though.

              I’m counting it a Non-Zero Day if I can make progress in exercising, reading, and writing. I understand that I’ve still done something and I am happy with that .

                    Lunch with family. My aunt said something about one of her grandkids calling their mom “mother”. I made a joke that you have to watch people who call their moms “mother” because you might wind up with a skeleton in the cellar. It was not appreciated . She said not everyone was as morbid as me. I explained it was a Psycho joke and she responded that she doesn’t watch those kinds of movies. This from a woman who, along with her sisters, talk about the strangest movies they’ve watched in the drive-ins, and who, moments later, talked about laughing at The Exorcist. Granted, I’m not a horror movie fan. My situation would be reversed. I wouldn’t watch The Exorcist, but I could watch Hitchcock films before going to sleep and it won’t bother me. Still haven’t figured out how Psycho is considered one of the scariest moves of all time.. aesthetically at least.

                        That’s funny about your aunt. I can watch classic scary black and white horror movies no problem, cuz…they are black and white. Removes the “scary” factor, for me. But, the modern colored ones are just too much, even some of the sci-fy ones (Alien, and its ilk) I cannot stand. I’m just getting old, I guess….🙄 But, anything Hitchcock I can watch, esp for Halloween!!😎

                          DorothyMH It’s weird because I’m absolutely fine with psychological horror or thrillers. I watched The Orphan with my family when it was newer. If it messes with your head, I’m good. Put somebody in a mask? I’m out. I can’t watch Halloween even though I know it’s a William Shatner/Captain Kirk mask. I’ve had actual nightmares because of the Scream mask. And don’t get me started on living, murderous dolls .

                          Even though the idea that an ordinary person could be a ruthless murderer should terrify me more.

                              I'm with you, LizardFriend95. Psychological thrillers can make me itch from adrenaline if it's good enough, but give me possessed and/or undead creepies and I'll have to have an animal companion that night. I saw The Ring when I was 18 or so and the only saving grace was the doberman who shared my bed!
