    Had to go shopping to get a new shower head. I also picked up a Father’s Day gift for my dad (a 3-in-one tailgate game set) and those hand grip thingies that build strength. I wanted to get these at Five Below, but they didn’t have them when I went. The ones I got aren’t adjustable, but there were two in the pack.

    Then I got an email that my Ancestry results were in! The difference between that and my 23andMe results are interesting. My (verified) German didn’t show up in my Ancestry results, when according to 23andMe, I’m over a quarter German. That estimate is pretty high, though, because even though my mom has quite a bit of German on her side, it’s a little further back, and from what I can tell so far, my dad only has a little bit. My Irish didn’t show up, either. I know they can be “hiding” in my other results, but it’s still interesting to see! The fact that both my parents did Ancestry makes it a lot easier to sort through my matches. I’ve made some progress on specifying my relationship to my matches and figuring out where they fit in.

    Also, when I told my dad my results came in, the first thing he did was ask if I was his. This had already been established by MyHeritage. None of us took that test, but I uploaded my dad’s DNA data there. I was testing to see how easy it was do to on a tablet before I suggested it to a cousin we found that had been adopted out. I uploaded mine when I got my first results back. And, wouldn’t you know? I’m his daughter. His next question was who all I matched with. The same people you did, dad...

    My FitBit had been acting up and I had trouble getting it to restart. My bought ordered me a Samsung Galaxy Fit2 for my birthday, and it arrived yesterday. It’s got a heart rate monitor, which I love! My only complaint is now my active minutes seem to be inflated.

      I have a Samsung Galaxy Watch and I have to be careful when in the car, otherwise it can read steps I'm not taking!

        My fitness watch (Garmin) will log hills or constantly sitting and standing up as stairs climbed. I can reach the goal stairs without going up a single stair.

          JCU When I first started using Samsung Health a few years back, it would do that. I managed to get it where the steps are pretty accurate on that. My watch yesterday counted over 3,000 steps when I was tidying things up. Thankfully, I can separate the steps recorded on my phone from the ones recorded on my watch. I just wish I could separate active minutes.

                      Went shopping and dad came across a bean bag toss game that he seemed really interested in. Little does he know that’s one of the games in his Father’s Day present...

                      I thought I’d show dad my DNA results and matches. Had to explain to him that the ethnicities aren’t always very accurate (ours have been pretty accurate. It’s just the percentages that aren’t very good). Went through our shared matches and told him who people were, including his cousin’s daughter that no one knew about. Tried to explain - again - what it means for a cousin to be “removed.” Granted, this was something that I could NOT grasp until I started really getting into the family tree again (thank you, familysearch!). But, no, contrary to what we’ve always thought, my parents’ first cousins are not my second cousins.

Dad’s interested in the family tree, too, but I have to keep explaining to him how we can be related to and descended from people with different surnames. Or how we can be related to someone with the same surname but spelled differently.

                                These things happened yesterday: had a few “aha” moments with the family tree, we took my cousin out for dinner, and I had an anxiety attack. I’d gone on Facebook for a little while to verify a few things for the family tree. Whether that was the full cause my anxiety, I’m not sure. I exited out of it before I got too frustrated with some of the posts I saw, But for whatever reason, for the whole afternoon, I had that knot in my stomach and the feeling that something was wrong. This isn’t unusual for me. My doctor had given me “breakthrough” anxiety meds to try, but since I’m pretty much in a constant state of anxiety, I’m still trying to figure out when to take them. When it became apparent that the feeling was not going away, I took the breakthrough medication. Maybe I waited too long, but they did not help. I was trying to take deep breaths to prevent myself from crying. It happened about an hour before we were supposed to leave to go pick up my cousin who was driving through on his route (he’s a truck driver, and we had to drive for an hour to meet him). Finally, I just let the tears come because otherwise it might have been an even worse night. I also listened to my happy music to try and calm down. I managed to get myself relatively calm before we left, but, guys, I don’t do well with highways . Anyway, it wasn’t until about 8 that we got to the restaurant and about 9:30 when we finished eating. Since it was so late, we all devoured our meals. But having a full meal like that and trying to go to sleep about an hour later is not a great experience.
