For the Iron born program I bought dumbells. It took some time to find dumbells with a good grip. I’ve been using these for a week now and they work very well for me.

I’ve been thinking of how great it would be if I went to the swimming pool - once a week as I used to - and then feeling relaxed and alive after the swim. For the past three months the intention of picking up swimming again was circling in my mind. But outside my mind, not much was happening.
I did pack my swim gear though, suit, towel and goggles, realizing that I love swimming but don’t like the preparations. Not the 20-minute car-drive to the pool. Not the queue for the lockers, where you stand waiting in a bath suit, feeling either too cold or too hot, while carrying a big bag with towel, shower-stuff and clothes, standing side by side together with many crying toddlers, yelling teenagers and other wet persons in bath suits. After the queue-experience awaits the water. When seeing the water my body responds very clearly, signaling: ‘No, no, no’. The first confrontation with the water is always too cold. On top of that, the water is also wet. Sounds like whining, I know. That’s exactly what my system does, when swimming is involved.
The whole image kept my bag - all packed and set for a dive - to stay on my drawer at home. In the mean time I knew that I kept myself from a very positive and energizing experience. One that I love.
Yesterday it was enough with the procrastination. I took the swimming gear, stepped in my car and finally dived in. And thank myself now for having done that.

I’ve been playing guitar for the past two weeks. Love it. It gives me a piece of existential joy, just like sports does for me. Music and sports, I could do both all day long and feel totally happy.

But in the real world I can’t. My arm starts nagging after a few minutes of playing the guitar and my feet hurt badly after a run. I’ve had RSI and a foot injury since many years. I had to give up playing and running a long ago.

Recently I found a so-called baby guitar - not referring to the sound but to the size - which means less strain on my arms and I decided to give music another try.
That was two weeks ago. Since, I’ve played every day. Now I feel more alive again!

In my sport program I’ve added a daily recovery section. This might help my arms staying relaxed enough. And hopefully the recovery exercises also do some good to my feet, my back and my knees, for I’m thinking of ways to pick up running again.

One way I thought of was visiting a podologist and having made new insoles. I did so last week. Next week I’ll receive the new insoles. I’ve tried them, they felt like a big improvement. These could really make a difference, said the podologist. In the meantime I keep myself fit and stick to the recovery feet exercises. Trained muscles and flexible feet, hopefully that ‘ll be enough for handling the impact of a first short run, hopefully sometime soon.

The insoles arrived sooner than I expected :-)

First steps felt weird. Knees seemed to get pushed sideways so far that I feared they would snap out their joints. Two hours later I already was adapted to the new balance, feeling that my knees and back can’t possibly do without the support.

Today I was on the road for work from early morning till evening. I didn’t do much of my daily routine. Coming home tired, I told myself that 1 exercise is more than 0 exercises. So I took up the dumbells.
