What does 80% mean? pace, heartrate...? and if it means pace: 80% of sprint PR, best 10k, best 5k, best 2k,...? The program description lacks information...

For me personally, anything 80% or more requires being in "the zone", after all if you could just decide when you wanted to go hard then we would all have personal bests every day. On the other hand, part of doing 80% is visualizing and positive reinforcement. You are more likely to get there by saying you are going to do it as opposed to just going with the flow.

    Day 728

     Programme:
    - Day 8 30 Days of Change The leg is fine again but this was still hard! Can anyone actually run at their 80% for 10 minutes? I would think that would be rather hard, and when running for any time longer than about a minute, you'd probably be a bit slower - maybe at 65 or 70%...
Medito - Day 5 of Gratitude - I recognise Life's challenges as opportunities to grow.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 11 I don't think I looked quite as elegant.
Workout with Marcy. Chest Presses - 3 sets. Not quite a drop set, but I started with the heaviest I can do one full set with, and then did the other two sets a bit lighter.
Arnis. Just a bit of swinging around with Redonda. Need to get the wrists turning better so things are smoother and tighter.

    Day 727

     Programme:
    - Day 7 30 Days of Change Thought I had to run today but that's tomorrow. Phew. The calf is nowhere near as sore as yesterday but another day off will no doubt be a Good Thing.
Medito - Day 4 of Gratitude.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 10. Only 20 days to go...
     Workout:
    - Clean Slate WOD again
Workout with Marcy. Seated Bench Presses, Lat Pull-Downs, and, just because I haven't done them before with Marcy, Standing Bicep Curls. Curiously enough, the bicep curls seemed easier than when I do them with my dumbbells. I know I'm using both hands on the bar here, but even so... I've got a small device used to weigh luggage; maybe I'll try that on Marcy and see if the instruction book is giving me the correct weights. If so, gee, I've suddenly become much stronger.
More Arnis Play-time. Worked on Redonda. Think I've got it now, and it was even pretty fast. I think some twirling next.

You join your league based on time first and maybe other factors after that. It sounds like you are starting earlier in the week ... I always do Sunday morning then Monday night just to make sure that I as as far away from the sunday end time. I still end up in competitive leagues every now and then, but 2k for me almost always gets me in the top ten. It probably doesn't help that you are in Australia, your latest time on Monday is still pretty early compared to the rest of the world. Or just don't worry about it. That is where I am gravitating, because if a person is doing 20k a week, then they are probably not getting as much out of the system because they are there for the points and they are also probably not doing other things in life, like reading books or exercising. Everything in moderation.

CaptainCanuck When I started in the DL, I hit #1 with about 900XP! Since then, though, it's been going up and up, so that even the last person to stay in the league has to have at least 2000XP. ften, even when doing 300 a day, I'd end up at #24 or #25! I wonder if there are different levels within leagues and if you consistently do a lot, you'll end up in a league of people who do a lot. Else you'd always end up at #1.

I have been thinking too that there will be a day when I let diamond go, but there is a bit of a workaround in terms of points. If you put off your start to the week until Monday night then you usually get a bunch of stragglers in your league, and not surprisngly stragglers are not all racking up excessive amounts of points. I see people stay in diamond in those leagues with about 800 points.

There are enough obligations in life- with work, with family, with "adulting", that unless it falls into one of those, exercising and mental challenges like duolinguo got to stay fun.

I feel comfortable in the obsidian league and I also have no intention of forcing myself to do something that I have chosen to do and I like to do, on my own terms
I think Duolingo is really well done as a daily exercise for a maximum of fifteen minutes, you don't even notice it and you keep learning but getting caught up in the competitive side is not for me, I tried it a few times but in the end it stresses me out, which is already overabundant these days

    Day 726

     Programme:
    - Day 6 30 Days of Change I just walked this today. My right calf is really sore - dunno why. Just thought I'd treat it a little gently today.
Medito - Day 3 of Gratitude.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 9.
Katana play-time! Daughter and I went out onto the front balcony, and I showed her how to do my favourite katana workout, Dance with Dragons. But because I am not a wholly negligent parent, we went through the Katana warm-up first. Finally moved down to the driveway where we could swing our bokkens around without hitting walls/outside light/tree/balcony railing/windows, and individually (because there was no room for us to do it together) we went through it a number of times. She really enjoyed it.
Arnis play-time! Ah, for that mystical power called co-ordination! After a bit of work, I managed to get the first part of Redonda tucked into my brain. The muscle memory is yet to come. I was feeling rather pleased with myself until my lad said, "Now do it fast," and I replied, "This is my fast!"
Bo staff play-time! More for daughter than for me. She wanted to know how to spin continuously, so we looked it up and she learnt it. Then she handed me the bo and said, "Now you do it." So I did but not as well as she. Fun, though. Must get a bo my size. Unlike a wooden broom handle, this nice aluminium thing doesn't hurt (much) when it hits you.

A couple of days ago, I made what was, for me, a rather big decision. I decided that I didn't really need to stay in the Diamond league on Duolingo. It was getting harder and harder, you see. I found that I had to do a minimum of 400XP every day, and though I could do that, I didn't like the fact that I had to do that. Every week it had been going up by just a bit, until these bits became quite a big thing. This was supposed to be a bit of fun, but it was becoming onerous. Some months ago, I dropped other things that I had felt I had to do - but I didn't really need to do these things; they were just restricting me, forcing me onto a path that I didn't want to follow. Now, no way am I going to stop doing Duolingo! I'm doing it because I enjoy it, I feel I'm achieving something. And I've got a really good streak! But I'm not going to stress about staying in any particular league. I never used to, and somehow I just found myself in the Diamond league, so maybe, some day, I'll find myself there again. Part of me wants to do 2000XP tonight just to get into the top 5, but most of me is saying, no, let it go, because I know the next day I'd have to do the same again, and I don't want to have to do that. I just want to have a bit of fun doing something that I choose to do for no other reason than that it's something I enjoy doing.

Lady Celerity Unfortunately it is a very rare thing indeed with that one!

    Day 725

     Programme:
    - Day 5 30 Days of Change
Medito - Day 2 of Gratitude. This was a very interesting one. It was about gratitude through negative visualisation - imagining what your life would be like without the people you love in it. Then think with gratitude about the people you love. Today my son made me so cranky, but it was a petty little thing and I wasted 15 minutes of our lives being cranky about it. I got cross. I spoke in a loud harsh voice. Then 15 minutes later I apologised and while we were hugging he had a little cry. And as I was meditating, I thought about this. I thought about how my daughter kept saying, Look at me, look at me, as she rolled the bo staff around her hand, so pleased that she could do it. And I thought that at 7 and almost 12, they are still little children, and they still need me. And I need them.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 8. Be careful not to knee yourself in the mouth. Just saying.

Had to go shopping today and by the time the troops were all ready and we got out and got back, there was pretty much the whole day gone. Dinner was splendid, though. Simple but tasty (pork loin steaks fried in butter with a drizzle of lemon, fried gnocchi, and spinach, blueberry and blue cheese salad). Sometimes a good meal is all it takes to make everyone feel good. Followed by watching an episode in B&W of The Goodies.

    Day 724

     Programme:
    - Day 4 30 Days of Change First time I've done some running in about three weeks. My speed (gosh) was not as high as it had been, but it wasn't as low as it had been either. Should have done the running before I did the arm exercises... After all, we certainly run with our arms, and mine were And I so must remember to get that fan going!! CaptainCanuck as I'm fortunate enough to have the equipment, it's a bit silly not to use them when I have the opportunity. And it makes training a lot more fun.
Medito - Day 1 of Gratitude.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 7 Phew, just calf raises today.
    Workout:
    - Arms and Shoulders WOD when I got up.
Workout with Marcy. A couple of different ones today. I did a bench press drop-set, which was interesting. For the first time, I did the leg curls which really isolate the hamstring (3 sets). My right is still weaker than my left, and that was quite noticeable as I had to do each leg separately with the exact same weight. Then I did something a little different. I was in an experimenting mood today, you see. Inspired by this among others, I had a go at some overcoming isometrics, doing (or not doing!) bench presses, lat pull-downs, and leg extensions (3 sets of 6 seconds). It has been an interesting day, and I'll definitely be doing this sort of thing again.
Punches. Did a pyramid (from 1 up to 10 and down again) of fast, full-power punches, being careful to focus on full extension and draw-back to the belt. As expected, speed really reduced from 7 and down as I tired.

Got myself some yoga blocks for Christmas and had a bit of fun, together with younger (very inflexible) daughter doing this splits follow-along. Didn't help when, just as we were wriggling into the front splits position, I got a phone call I had to take. Then, after that, just as I had re-achieved the position, there was another call which I thought might be a continuation of the previous, so I got up to take it and it was a *** call-centre. But I really liked using those yoga blocks. Makes things a lot easier.

What else? Had quite a day of it, really. Elder daughter is absent for a bit more than a week, so I went to her room and snaffled her bo staff. Okay, it's a bit small for me (it's small for her too now as she got it over a year ago and she's almost my height now!). I was just starting to play with it (backward and forward hand rolls) when younger daughter heard me (must have been one of the many times the staff hit the mats!) and came down. So what had started off as bo staff training for me became bo staff training for her. Better than watching YouTube on her iPod! I did a bit with the bo, then pulled out my Arnis and this is the one I want to train on for a bit. I'd forgotten about having located stuff like this. When we were both a bit tired, I suggested that my daughter borrowed her sister's bokken and we go out sometime and do some sword work. She liked that idea, so...

    Day 723

     Programme:
    - Day 3 30 Days of Change My 60 minutes was split into 20min on the bike, 20min rowing, and 20min on the treadmill.
Medito - Day 10 of Deepen your Practice. And that's the last session of that pack. Next is Gratitude.
30 Day 100 rep leg challenge, Day 6. Starting to feel all these...

Bit of a thunderstorm this afternoon and some light rain. Brought the temperature down but the forecast is for warm weather and a little rain the next few days. Means it'll be steamy. I don't like steamy; it makes my hair curl. Ringlets.
