    Day 928

    Challenge:
     Walking Challenge Day 13.
    50 Push-ups a Day Day 5.

    Programme:
Arms of Steel Chair edition, Day 22.

    JFF - more jigsaw.

Taekwondo training. Before we got started tonight, we just did some turning kicks to an iranian and that was a bit of fun. Then started with 10 laps running. Hip rotations and suchlike to open things up. Joint warm-up followed by split stretching against the wall with partner. We did some hand co-ordination drills: one person stands with hands out and apart, palms facing in; other person slaps one hand with their palm and the other with the back of their hand, then do the same with the other hand. Repeat, trying to get faster. Then it changed and we had to start with hitting with the back of the hand and then the palm. Add a twist on the second strike and make it more like a bear claw strike. Phew! Co-ordination. Leg-strengthening work now. The cone thing again - sitting in pike position, lifting one leg up and slightly to the side over the cone and back again. We did one where you start off in side splits and bring one leg in, then lift the outstretched leg up and down. Ow! Then kicking drills - sparring type drills to the iranians, starting off with low skip kicking, just alternate; then forward 1-2, back 1-2, foward 1-2-3, back 1-2-3, up to 4. Somewhere in there we also did a couple of laps of turning kick to our partner's hand. The final kick we did was a funny sort that doesn't have a name anyone knows. For the drill, partner held iranian face up and no higher than hip height. Bring knee up as usual, then rotate leg so that knee is now facing straight down and drop instep right onto that iranian. And now your foot is facing the other direction. Bit of a twist and I couldn't get any power, but I think I got the mechanics of it. Finally, we all got in a large circle, and one person was put in the middle and had to give us a stretch to copy - so there was butterfly, and splits (side and front), and pigeon pose - the usual suspects. About halfway through, the coach said that she was going to chose the next person and this person would have a stretch that we had never done before. And then she chose me! Quick thinking - I don't know what this one is called, but you stand in a walking pose and, keeping legs straight and bending from the hips, you touch your nose to your forward knee. I have no problem with this one and even manage to feel some stretch with it. The coach said she really liked that one, so I guess she was feeling it too!

Did another 6k for this today:

On a side note, I wish people would stop saying how wonderful Olympian is. I'm trying to be strong here and leave it to later!

      Day 929

      Challenge:
Walking Challenge Day 14. Raining. Treadmill. Strangely difficult today as I couldn't get into the not-boring mode. Most unusual.
      50 Push-ups a Day Day 6

      Programme:
Arms of Steel Chair edition, Day 23.

      JFF - more jigsaw.

I had to clear out my younger daughter's wardrobe today, and I was really looking forward to it. Yep, I'm a sick puppy. It must be the Aspie part of me, but clearing out and organising something - anything! - is absolutely wonderful! So I turned on a new Home Workout from the ZR suite - today I was a mage, fighting the bad guys from the back of my telepathic dragon! I actually did 2 episodes (took longer than I thought and I've not finished yet. Good thing there are three more episodes!), and the exercises were plank (x 2), punches (x 2), squats, lunges, superman stretch, and hand opening and closing (7 times in 7 different arm positions). The cat thought she'd add some weight to one of the planks and settled down on my back. Guess that shows how nice and flat I was!

What is it with cats and planks ? Luna has done this to me on occasions. (though her favorite "help" is brushing my leg when I am trying to work on balance asanas ).

Dogs have a thing with planks and push-ups too. My Beagle used to sneaking on the top of me while I was doing so, and he weighed 22 kgs.

            Day 930

            Challenge:
             Walking Challenge Day 15.
            50 Push-ups a Day Day 7

            Programme:
Arms of Steel Chair edition, Day 24

            JFF - more jigsaw.

Taekwondo training. Was advised this afternoon that there would be no training at my usual centre (due to illness) but I was welcome to attend the other one that runs classes on the same days. It was a further 15 or so minutes drive. It was wet today. I mean, really wet! Shortly after I got to bed last night (okay, this morning, but who's counting?!) there was a thunder storm. I saw lightning flashes through my closed eyes and counted to the thunder. First it was 4 seconds, then 10, then 8. By 2 o'clock, I was bored with this and fell asleep. Between then and now, we've had over 60mm of rain!! The driveway was flooded - hate to see what the garage floor looks like.

So I had to trek across the wet garden to get to my car this evening. Fortunately, the rain had eased up when I headed out. A strange class. I was the only one from my centre who turned up. The GM was taking this class. First up, before any sort of warm-up, he had us grab an iranian, partner up, and practice turning kick. There weren't many adults. Two blokes paired up, two ladies ditto. That left me with a teen girl. That was cool - we'd both done poomsae! Anyway, turning kick. She wasn't tall so couldn't hold the iranian high enough for me to do a high kick, so when we were called on to do those, I just stuck to kicking around her shoulder height. The GM took the iranian from her and held for me. I kicked, and then landed and stood as I normally would - facing forward in walking stance. He told me to relax. I told him this was me relaxed! He said I had to be ready for the next kick, and I got what he meant, so the next time I kicked, my body was turned to the other side, more in a fighting stance, ready to kick again. Then he stopped the class and I had to show them my first "me relaxed" and then the fighting me, which was, if I may say so, pretty good. I was pleased with how I have progressed with sparring, though I don't like it. After a while, we then moved to doing back side kick. My partner was not good at this. This kick has crept up the ladder to being my second worst kick! After practising this again and again, we all had to sit and watch while each pair got up and kicked. Holding is as much part of it as kicking. When it was my turn, as holder I was trying to get distance but my partner kept moving closer to me and then kicked. The GM told her that was all her fault and she had to make distance and wait until the target was there. When I kicked, he advised me not to turn quite so far before I kicked. Must remember that. We lined up, facing our partners, and then kicked by the GM's count. Finally, we did back swing kick, which is my (current) worst kick! And that was it. An awful lot of kicking to pads tonight. The GM said that if anyone had questions, to see him, so when everyone had left, I saw him and asked if this was a back kick with a hook, or more of a back crescent kick, so we had a lovely discussion about that (it really depends on distance) as well as torque. I had noticed my partner counter-balancing by turning her body in the opposite direction as she kicked (as we do in a normal side kick, for example), but in this kick, you want the body to keep moving in the same direction as the leg, so that its momentum adds power. An interesting discussion. He always makes me feel as though I am asking the most intelligent and perspicacious questions!

PetiteSheWolf Ah, yes, the "brushing" that actually involves a fair bit of "pushing" in my experience. Mine also like brushing past my face whenever I'm at their level, leaving as much hair on me as possible! Bridges are fun with that extra weight, but the cats get cranky when I do crunches!

Froud Baffled. How can a 22kg dog "sneak" anywhere?!

TopNotch a Beagle is very sneaky (and quick)

                Day 931

                Challenge:
Walking Challenge Day 16. After all that rain, too wet to go out anywhere and couldn't face the treadmill, so, as I had to pop into a few shops, I parked as far away as I could, and walked to one end of the shopping area (needed some spray paint) and all the way to the other (broccoli). That certainly filled in the walking time!
                50 Push-ups a Day Day 8
Arms and Abs Day 5. How come nobody told me it was August already?! So I started with day 5 (as you can see) and I'll catch up the other days over this next week. Looks like a bit of fun.

                Programme:
Arms of Steel Chair edition, Day 25

Saw the podiatrist this morning. He's very pleased with my progress and so am I. I told him some things I had noticed and he said that was exactly what he had wanted, so all good. I have slightly changed exercises, getting a little harder. Confessed that I hadn't been doing ATG back squats (though I can do them fine without the weight) and he said that ATG was quite unnecessary. So we had a lovely discussion about full ROM, when it is and isn't necessary, as well as a load of other things. I do enjoy having chats with physiotherapists about exercise. Always makes me wonder if it isn't too late for a new career in sports medicine... Anyway, it's always good when your health care professional is pleased with your progress, and I guess this makes a term without poomsae (even though it's only been three weeks so far) worthwhile.

Yesterday's water had gone right through the whole length of the garage and washed up into the laundry behind, then drained into the floor waste there. So there's a lovely clean-up job waiting.

                Comment

Oh yikes! I hope the cleanup goes well! Pls send water over here...

Walking Challenge Day 18. Okay, so we had a total downpour four days ago (on Thursday, today's Sunday), so I figured it shouldn't be too wet out still.

Wrong! Now, don't get me wrong - I love splashing through the puddles with the best of them, and don't mind wet socks, but slippy mud is - well, slippy mud! Spent a lot of time squelching through the undergrowth next to the path - though with the top picture, that was a bit of a challenge. I think that's where the first wet sock came from.

                          Challenge:
Walking Challenge Day 20. Hey, what happened to day 19? Ah, I don't fancy doing my long walks on a training day, so I've just swapped these days and I'll have to swap again next week. Today I decided to go up the other side of "my" Hill. Lots of reports, you see, said that it's always dry there, even after rain. Nope! For those of you, like mavie who may crave some more sights of water, here's a bit of run-off. Normally, this would be totally, absolutely dry, so much so that nobody would even imagine that water would ever even run down here.

JFF - though perhaps my definition of "fun" needs a spot of revision... Today I started a new free online course, "The Fundamentals of Neuroscience, pt 1". Got halfway through the first lesson of the Electrical Properties of the Neuron, so now I know a little more about the resting potential. Perhaps! There is just so much out there that you can learn - free of charge now. It's just really hard to choose which to do first!

Slippery mud is always tricky! I always hate it when you think you are placing your foot on solid ground next to a puddle, and then you get sucked in till your ankles

I also can't see the pictures in your last post 😔 your text is so promising!
