    Day 692

     Programmes:
    - Day 25 Ironheart
    - Day 3 Fit December

A very quiet day today. I was glad that FD didn't require me to do High Knees or anything like that. This morning, finally, that tooth came out! I had a bit of banter with my dentist (we do that) when she was talking about the aftermath of the extraction. I said that aftermath wasn't what I was concerned about but rather the math itself. And the beforemath. Anyway, the result of this is that, following investigations when I got home, I have now learnt where the word aftermath comes from. Apparently, in Old English, the (transliterated) math was the mown grass in a meadow, and the aftermath was the second mowing - the growth that happened after the math. Who would have thought it?! The dentist told me to take it easy for a couple of days - as she always does - and then complained that I normally went to training anyway. I made her happy by telling her I didn't have training tonight. Quite frankly, my mouth doesn't feel too good right now, so I don't know that I would have been going even if it had been on. Or if I had gone, I probably wouldn't have been doing much. Next Friday, though, we have Pizza Night!

            Day 693

             Programmes:
            - Day 26 Ironheart
            - Day 4 Fit December

Saw that the Christmas tree 🎄and Snowball Fight have been announced. Better get these thighs warmed up! To that end, and of course in pursuit of my current aim, I have found a 30-day leg challenge - from a former ballerina! 100 reps (each leg) of a single exercise each day, many of them with a ballet flavour - pliés and suchlike. Now, ballet dancers have such lovely long, strong and lean legs, and I have been looking at the types of drills they do. I really want to be able to do good extension, you see, and I need to work on gaining the strength without the bulk to do that. Damer advised me "To have the kind of control that ballet dancers have however you will need to do what they do: prior to every workout they spend up to 30-40 minutes working on hip flexors and controlling how they raise their legs." So I'll start small and work my way up. I have discovered that I can (relatively) happily repeat a drill multiple times if I'm doing it to achieve one of my aims rather than just to finish a challenge or something. Next week is the last week of training before the summer break. Then I'll have about 6 weeks to work on stuff before training recommences. I'll be setting myself a challenging but (I hope) achievable programme for that period.
But today was leg day in both programmes, so I decided that I shall delay this challenge until after I've finished Ironheart and then I'll see how it goes. Could be fun. Or it could kill me. But as we are told "Easy might be safer, but where's the fun in that?"

I used Action Jacquelyn on You Tube for those 100 reps a day legs, last year. It was quick and HARD! Bu, a diff exercise use every day was great!

                        Day 695

                         Programmes:
                        - Day 28 Ironheart
                        - Day 6 Fit December
                        Workout:
                        - Piece of Cake Want to get started on those hip flexors.

I've made a list of the workouts I'd like to be doing. My physio complained about my glutes, so I'll be concentrating on those as well as the hip flexors, and tendons. Wrote out a list of the Taekwondo things I'd like to focus on. It's a long list! As usual, I'm likely to be overly-optimistic as to my ability to stick to a list - though I do enjoy writing them up! But with the holiday season nearly on us, with the potential for stinking hot days, playdates and sleep-overs and other spontaneous child-related distractions, the chances of my actually keeping to a firm plan are about - okay, it's absolutely zero! That said, though, there's absolutely NO chance of my getting done anything that I want to get done if I don't write it down so that I know, at a glance, what it is that I want to get done. Right? Right.

Thanks mavie and Anek Just a brief dip into the Slough of Despond. Drying off now.

I am doing mostly more workouts than programs these days, so my exercise plan wouldn't work without a list of some kind going on.

                            Day 696

                             Programmes:
                            - Day 29 Ironheart
                            - Day 7 Fit December

Taekwondo trainning. Tonight's warm-up started with running. A lot of running around and around in the hall. After some laps, I dropped out and just ran the length of the hall, back and forth. I couldn't, you see, comfortably keep up with the others, most of whom were teenagers. So I just kept running. That's my goal - just to keep running. There was a couple of laps of sprinting, and I did one of those, then returned to my back-and-forth. After that, 20 pre-squats, 20 tuck jumps, 20 burpees, and 20 push-ups. Then partner drills with iranians - cut kick, back leg turning kick; cut kick, front leg turning kick; feint cut kick, punch; cut kick x 2, sliding kick; then back swing kick. Finished with free kicking.

CaptainCanuck I reckon I'll be right if I make a plan of what I'd like to do but build in the understanding and likelihood that it won't necessrily get done. Not all of it, at any rate. Something will, of course, be done every day but I'm not going to be prescriptive. I would, however, like to work on meditation, and I'll have a go with Medito's 30 Day Meditation Challenge. I'm not much of a meditator. A contemplator, a thinker, a considerer, a muser, but a meditator? So that's sort of my prime goal. Oh, and of course suddenly being able to perform full side splits and the perfect high side kick!

                              Day 697

                               Programmes:
                              - Day 30 Ironheart I enjoyed this programme. I really liked the clearly separated days, particularly the tendon days. The other thing I liked was that there wasn't a major increase in the number of reps, which meant that if I found anything easier as the programme progressed, I could just slow down the movement and I prefer that to increasing reps.
                              - Day 8 Fit December This and Ironheart today meant it was very much a legs and glutes day!
100 Side Shoulder taps As I haven't done an Exercise of the Day - like, ever! since I stopped when the DD left the home page - I thought it was time to do so before the year's end. But actually with this one, it ends up being 200 side shoulder taps, if you count each individual tap...

Also started work on the Medito app workouts. I suppose meditation instruction and training can still be considered a "workout" as I'm working my brain. This app has about 8 courses that it is recommended you do before just carrying on with daily meditation. They're designed for the non-meditator - perfect for me. I was hoping to get to course 6 which is the 30-day challenge, but there's a 10-day programme before that, and about 20 other 5-10 minute "lessons", so maybe I won't get to do that 30-day challenge this holiday period, but that's okay so long as I just keep working my way through. I'll get there when I get there, and if it's not as soon as I had thought, well, so be it. I don't think there's any Badge for who can meditate the fastest!

Looking forward to the Tree - wonder how many reps of which I'll end up doing. No squats this year, I notice. I did them last year - but then, I hadn't experienced the Snowball Fight yet. I know better this year!
