    Day 639

     Programmes:
    - Day 28 Core Strength
    - Day 14 1 Min HIIT
     Challenge:
    - Day 24 Touch Your Toes
Day 14 - Splits training app. 13 minutes today.
Poomsae coach challenge. Another superset - 10 sets of 10 reps of jump squats, climbers (10 each leg), push-ups, sit-ups. The idea seems to be just to submit our times - I know nothing more than that. Mine was neither the fastest (by a long shot!) nor the slowest, and I'd rather not do it again.

Saw the physio this morning. He taped my knee and I was able to squat again, which was very important for both today's PCC and HIIT. Knee stays taped for a while - 3 days on, 1 day off. This should also reduce discomfort following my running.

Thanks, TheGrayLynx DorothyMH CaptainCanuck mavie Fremen Mianevem A very personal sort of victory, but a victory nonetheless.

    Day 638

     Programmes:
    - Day 27 Core Strength
    - Day 13 1 Min HIIT
     Challenge:
    - Day 23 Touch Your Toes
Day 13 - Splits training app. 15 minutes today.
ZR 5k Training. Wk5WO2. During the first 5min run today, I could have sworn there was something wrong with my treadmill. Sure, it displayed the same speed as usual, but something was wrong - it was going so much faster than it should! Phew! Anyway, during the drills, it seemed to settle itself down and behave. As usual, I was glad when it was over, but also, it didn't seem quite so tough. And then I thought that the treadmill had probably been behaving correctly all the time, but at the start, I tend to struggle a little.
Exercise bike. Rule Britannia, ep 2 - Auribus teneo lupum. 25min/12km. Watch out for those wolves. During the ZR episodes (not the 5k training but the general ones), you pick up things along the way - an axe, packet of underwear, a pair of trousers, a sports bra, a packet of batteries - stuff like that. On this Ancient Britain one, you do the same, but now you pick up a pair of gauntlets, a broken arrow - and today I picked up an Apodesmos. A what?! Had to look that one up! Guess what - an ancient version of a bra! So, still picking up sports bras (very important for female runners!). So I learnt something today. And now, so have you.

The poomsae coach finally posted the leaderboard. I headed the list. Not because I was fastest, or did it most often, or did the most push-ups, but I showed the greatest improvement (I think I was 3rd with the speed and 1st with the push-ups). My daughter came second, partly because we encouraged each other. So we get to share a box of chocolates (which I think is fair). There is a new challenge - 10 sets of 10 reps of 4 exercises - and it is time based. No way will I get anywhere near close to the fastest on this one! This was one of my big cardio days, though, so I wasn't going to do it today. Tomorrow, after the physio. I have to talk to him about my knee - I used to have to tape it but I've forgotten how.

    Day 637

     Programmes:
    - Day 26 Core Strength
    - Day 11 1 Min HIIT The knees still didn't like those reverse lunges but we got through them.
     Challenge:
    - Day 22 Touch Your Toes
Day 12 - Splits training app. 15 minutes today.

A quiet day. There was a strange weekend feel, even though I know it's Tuesday (that's right, isn't it?). Probably because it was grey and still outside, though no rain. That's coming later this week. So I just pottered today, rested the knees, tidied stuff up that had been lying around for ages. Productive in a way, but at the end of the day, can't really say what I've done! But it was a good day.

    Day 636

     Programmes:
    - Day 25 Core Strength
    - Day 12 1 Min HIIT My knees were like, OMG what have you done to us?! I hope I haven't overworked those poor hinges today, but lunges and high knees were not looking like a happening thing, so I did day 12 today and I'll do 11 tomorrow.
     Challenge:
    - Day 21 Touch Your Toes
Day 11 - Splits training app. 15 minutes today.
ZR 5k training. Wk5WO1. Okay, whole new week, and I'm now in the second half of the training. So this week's training is: 5min walk, 5min run, then 30sec walk, 1min run, 6 heel lifts (x5), then 10min run, 5min stretching, and another 10min run. These last run were, as always, free-form, but I ran them (again, as always!). When the first lot of 10 minutes was nearing its end, I felt that I simply couldn't do a further five minutes as I had last week (admittedly, there was more running and less walking during the drills, too), and I was glad that it was only 10 minutes. I didn't stop and stretch, instead I walked really slowly (about 3.2kph!) for that five minutes to slow things down but not stop and stiffen. I didn't like the idea of having to restart. Strangely enough, with the second lot of 10 minutes, I felt a bit better. I knew I could run it and I did. Total time was 52 minutes; total distance was 4.96km.
Exercise bike. 26 minutes/12.69km. I didn't think I'd get on the bike while my daughter was doing her running, but after a bit of a rest and a bite to eat, I did. I wanted to try out another story from the ZR suite, one from the ZR alternative universe (so I'm still 5, and Sam's still there), so I did Rule Britannia, ep1: Quis Custodiet ipsos Custodes?, which was 26 minutes long and quite enjoyable. There are five episodes in this story, and then there's Pax Germanica which only has one episode so far. Anyway, instead of being Runner 5, as I was now a Roman, I was Quinque! 🖐 But I think this was probably where I wore out my poor knees today.

Walk for an hour - usual 5k route. Saw a man with a tripod and camera set up, pointing up into a tall gum. Stopped and chatted. He was trying to get a photo of a gang-gang and his mate. Unfortunately, before he could get a picture of them together, they flew off. But this picture (not mine!) is just so you can see what I'm talking about. The male is the red-head.

Poomsae coach challenge. Later this afternoon, shortly after I did the shoulder-killing HIIT, the Poomsae coach allowed us to do the challenge one more time. Initially, he had said that it was all over as from 11am Sunday. I had intended doing it again yesterday but I was simply too tired to do it, and I knew I wouldn't be able to do it this morning, so that was that. But there, suddenly, was one more chance. Appearing just after I'd blitzed my shoulders! Oh well. Gave it another go, and beat my former best time by 17 seconds and added another pushup to my count (form? What's that?! ) He hasn't posted the leaderboard yet, but I am quite happy with my improvement. The first time I did it, I didn't know it would be judged on time, so though I didn't linger, I didn't really push myself. The second, fourth and fifth times, I did go all out, and improved each time.
