    Day 814

     Challenge:
    - Day 9 Push-ups
    - Day 8 Better Legs

Another two episodes of The Walk - all very exciting, and ensuring I keep moving even when just sorting stuff out. Grey, chilly day and the last day of term, so the girls are off now for the next two weeks.

    Day 813

     Challenge:
    - Day 8 Push-ups
    - Day 7 Better Legs

No training tonight. It had been a grey, slightly drizzly day, and I did a lot of sorting out, during which I listened to two episodes of The Walk. This doesn't focus on distance or step count, but really just movement and time, so by 1:30 this afternoon, I had already done over 7,000 steps because I just didn't stop (and now I'm over 12,000 again). Sorting things out, I found a pile of stuff that I had kept but I had no recollection why so I just dumped the whole lot. Couldn't have been anything important in that, after all. And who just needs more stuff and papers and mess? Also found some cool matchbox cars I'd obviously confiscated from the boy and we'd both forgotten about - there was even a motorbike! Excellent! Mine now.

    Day 812

     Challenge:
    - Day 7 Push-ups
    - Day 6 Better Legs

Mastery training. Informal training tonight. Some people were working on one patterns, other people were board-breaking, some were doing self-defences - all in the space of half a basketball court, so it was a bit tight. The group I got with decided to start with the patterns, going through from 1-8. I stepped in at 2. Once we'd gone through them, and done Koryo twice, we did the self-defences. Then someone called us all to line up and do Koryo, which we did, even though this person isn't an instructor (I think, though, she's kind of in training). So we all worked through Koryo two or three times. Tonight was Grading Day for the coloured belts, and the GM wanted us to demonstrate something to the new yellow belts (those who have just discarded their white belts). He came around the curtain that separated the parts of the gym, saw us all lined up, and made us line up exactly the same way on the other side of the curtain where the former white belts were. We did Koryo for them and then we went back to our side of the curtain and carried on. Finally we were called back to have a photo with all those who graded today and then, that was it. I'm not going to the open mat training on Friday. I'll work on my own again for the next few days and then...

I plugged into The Walk again today. It was a longer one, lasting about 2 hours, but it was entertaining. Well, apart from the fact that "I" was in danger of hypothermia... An engaging story helps make tedious tasks a little less tedious, and it certainly keeps me moving, with the step count over 12,000.

Treadmill. About 20 minutes at an easy pace, just enough to get the heart pumping a little and the blood flowing nicely without in any way risking anything. Isn't it funny how sometimes you want to wrap yourself up in cotton wool so that nothing happens because there's something you have to do later - attend some sort of ceremony, go travelling, whatever - and you simply can't afford anything going wrong with you? The lad's got himself another cold and he's always insisting on hugs, despite my demanding he takes his germs away! It'd be too late anyway, and I like the hugs.

Worked through patterns today - the lower belt ones that we are expected to know perfectly (but have forgottn because we're slackers and don't do them very often any more - or is that just me? ).

DorothyMH At least the only real issues would be either the pen wasn't the exact right colour, or the paper wasn't!
Lady Celerity For some reason, everyone around here thinks I can do anything with computers - and all other electrical and electronic equipment (oh, and pretty much everything else, too). Me, I restore treadle sewing machines!

    Day 810

     Challenge:
    - Day 5 Push-ups
    - Day 4 Better Legs

Mastery training. Not a big turn-out tonight - perhaps because it wasn't really formal training, perhaps because people are used to there being no classes in the last week of term, perhaps - who knows? Anyway, we had another quick mock-up of how things are going to go on Sunday, then we did two patterns - 7 and Koryo. I went a complete blank on how pattern 7 started and screwed up another bit on the first run through, but picked up my game on the second go. I was quite happy with my Koryo, though, including my double side kicks. Then we partnered up and trained whatever we wanted. I partnered up with someone else who didn't have a partner and we worked the three complexes, the eight self defences (though we both went blank on the last one and had to ask for help - oh dear...), and then got through three of the 1-steps. No training tomorrow, but same sort of thing as this on Wednesday, and really gentle training on Friday. I'm not going to bother going on Friday. No point in driving 30 minutes each way to train the way I can at home, and if there is anything I don't know by Friday, well, that's the way it'll just have to stay! I'll spend this week really drilling the patterns, all of them because we have to be as good at the colour-belt patterns as we are at our grading pattern (for first Dan that's Koryo).

I was doing a lot of to-ing and fro-ing at home today, so I plugged again into another episode of The Walk, and today's step count was over 12,000. I think that when Mastery is over, I shall re-do the Zombies, Run! 5k training. I have had some health issues over the last 5 or so months but things seem to be settling down again and I need to recover some cardio fitness that I reckon I've lost. I'm looking forward to it, and I wonder if that's for itself, or if that's just because it'll mean Mastery is over! A bit of both, I suppose. But I've got my nice running shoes to use and I wonder if I'll actually be able to run that 5k in less time. Certainly hope it won't be more!!

It's getting a bit chilly here now. The cats like to lie on the heating vents - one in the lounge room, one in the dining room.
