    Cody's WoL

Started keeping this in a spreadsheet - figured why not keep it on here instead! Extra little piece of accountability.

Goal right now is just to do something every weekday. No more specific goals - I just want to make it a habit again. Saturday's are usually work around the house/yard days so they tend to be strenuous enough in their own way. Sunday's my wife and I try to rest. Coffee & a book on the couch together time / take a walk with the kids / etc.

Just gonna post each morning what I do and any notes I feel like remembering.

    Cheers!

    Did:
Day 1 of Darebee "Power Up" program
Week 1 of schoolofcalisthenics free beginners progam.

    Notes:
Both of these workouts were short but I still felt tired. Love the low impact nature.

Yoga - Down Dog App - 15 Minutes

    Notes:
Daylight savings time definitely makes waking up in the morning easier!

Putting a little token of appreciation post for you! Secondary accountability sounds good to me. Looking for day 3 tomorrow!

Day 3 of Darebee "Power Up" program
Week 1 of schoolofcalisthenics free beginners progam.

        Notes:
Cousins we hadn't seen in years were in town so we visited and stayed up waaaaaaay to late. So no time for workout in the morning.
Fortunately I usually work from home Wednesdays - so while I don't think I'll get 20 minutes of Yoga in, both the "power up" and the calisthenics workout are intense but brief and easy to fit into a quick break.

          Did:
Day 4 of Darebee "Power Up" program
Yoga - Down Dog App - 5 Minutes

          Notes:
5 Minutes of Yoga? What is that!? 😂 The usual pickup driver for our foster kids is off, so a new van driver has been coming - and because they're extra on his route he's about half an hour earlier then the usual.

That + getting up a little later than I planned meant I was tight on time.So rather then no Yoga I did a short one.

I chose Down Dog's "Restorative" option because the School of Calisthenics program recommends more stretching than I've been doing - but really I think 5 minutes was too short for that to be worth it. You only got through maybe 4 or 5 poses in that time. Conversely if I'd chosen their "quick flow" (which skips warmup and cool down) and set the pace to "faster" I'm sure I could have worked up a sweat in that time. Good note for later.

Can I say just one more time how much I love the "Power Up" program? For better or worse streaks are big deal for me mentally. If I've done something every morning for a while I'm very motivated to keep it going - but when I miss a day I'm also quick to fall into the ditch of "well - I'm behind now anyway what does it matter". On a tight morning like this one I usually would have done nothing, telling myself I'd get back on track tomorrow, but knowing from the past that I probably wouldn't. Having a workout that feels like I did something but only takes 4 - 6 minutes is huge, and while I've seen workouts like that before they always seem to be Tabata or HIIT which is not my cup of tea. It's not like the "power up" program alone is enough to meet my fitness goals - but it's an excellent tool in my belt to keep the streak going and establish the habit.

No "real" workout but I split, carried and stacked wood for an hour. : )

Nothing so far... might try to fit in restorative Yoga yet.

                Notes:

I am so sore this morning! Particularly uncomfortable in my upper back. Wow.

Nothing in my workout stood out as especially strenuous. Holding positions in "power up" is always hard - but not (so far) in a way that I can still feel it an hour later.

The calisthenics was difficult as well - but it's a lot of learning new skills. Practicing frog stands is difficult because I'm bad at frog stands for example, but doesn't wear out my arms because - well - I can't stay balance in the position long enough to make them tired!

They did have me trying stuff with the rings too... and as I write this and try to remember how my arms would have been for that... yeah, it think it was trying learn the first steps of skin-the-cat (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=avlj56L_E-A) that makes me hurt.

You know - they recommend these little self muscle massages you should do before the workout - but I had rolled my eyes a bit since they also gave you links to go buy the "massage ball" they sell... So I thought those were probably more about making a sale than anything else.

Maybe that was a bit of hubris on my part. 😓
