Maybe even especially if I have to travel to another country to meet up with them.
I have not had a real vacation in far, far too long.

I'm grateful for being surrounded by like-minded people at this point in my life. I used to be surrounded by people who either seemed to have no particular interests / hobbies at all (other than maybe some type of gaming), or who made politics their main focus. That's absolutely fine, but I always felt like the "crazy fitness gal" around them and I did all my training on my own without talking about it to anyone. Now, I am constantly surrounded by people who love bouldering (not all of them, but some have a different sport they're crazy about, like pole dance or martial arts) and want to protect the environment by cycling / walking a lot.

I hope that you can make some friends who share your hiking / running / yoga passion with you!

We'll see in a few days (I was afraid to give him dry food too early, because it could aggravate the gingivits). At the moment, he's mainly grumpy, because he has decided that only wet food is boring. But apart from feeding times, he's cuddly and relaxed, which is a good sign.

              Thank you

I don't think I'll change a lot in my trainings schedule this time.. For the Tough Mudder Full (18K), I did Ironborn, very little bouldering, some HIIT and an interval running program to build up to 10K, as well as a 10K test race and the Muddy Angel Run. Now, I'm already doing C25K and that will be done before the race, and strength training plus bouldering consistently. I'd love to keep CrossFit on my trainings schedule, because that would really make a difference, but there has been a lot of drama around the gym I went to, and I'm not sure if I'd like to go back there at this point.

                Thursday, 11 July

Crazy day -- had an issue with my bike tyre (not the tube, that would've been too easy LOL) on my way to work and had to stop in the middle of nowhere, scout around to find the next repair shop (it wasn't open so early), then walk to the next subway station. I called the shop when they opened, and the guy told me that I'd have to bring the bike immediately, or wait for the next appointment (probably in a few days). So I walked back to the middle of nowhere to bring my bike to the shop, then walked back to the subway station to make it back home before an important conference call.

Somehow, my head is not in the game at the moment.. The guys wanted to work on their first 5th degree difficulty problem, and all I wanted to do was climb until my forearms screamed without having to think about every damn move.

                  That is awesome, Twitchy!

Sadly, even when I worked as a fitness instructor, I only had friends who liked working out in gyms.

Before that, I used to hang with the SCA, because all of their summer events were "camping" events. But to SCA folk, "camping" equals building a massive canvas pavilion and loading up your car to the gills, plus towing a trailer behind it, so you can bring the entire contents of your house (sometimes even including the kitchen sink!) to a field to live in for a week. (I'm not even joking. People would bring four poster beds from their bedrooms. They'd bring full size refrigerators and chest freezers and electric ovens. They'd bring Persian rugs. It was the most non-camping camping experience imaginable and as far separated from nature as people could possibly make it.)

Now I'm getting to know people who are into birding and nature photography. But they are mostly into driving to a birding "hotspot" someone has alerted them to, getting out of their cars to snap a few photographs, then getting back in their cars to drive to the next location. No one wants to go on a long hike with me.

I know some people locally now who are into camping without taking a ridiculous amount of non-camping gear with them. But they are into taking a ridiculous amount of beer with them. (I'm not a teetotaler, but neither do I enjoy hanging around with people who are drunk.)

I live in a part of the world with so much glorious nature all around and I just cannot seem to make friends with anyone who wants to get outside and enjoy it with me. What am I doing wrong?

Thank you. I like doing yoga alone, actually--although I would totally try acro-yoga if I could find someone interested in doing it with me. It would be awesome to have hiking and running and paddling friends. And non-drunk camping friends.

I do have a gym friend who once offered to go back country camping with me--if I could arrange for a helicopter to air lift her out of the interior at night so she could sleep in a hotel!

Sorry about your bike troubles (did you get it fixed okay?) and the drama at your gym.

I think this is a totally legit (and probably therapeutic) approach to take from time to time.

Rainbow Dragon Is it allowed to camp without a designated campground in Canada? Unfortunately, it's not allowed in Germany. There are, however, some really cool campgrounds that are close to nature, so you can go hiking without having to use a car to start your hike.

                              Saturday, 12 July

                              Something really bad happened..

My RPG group met, and since our friend from Nothern Germany was there, we decided to play a one shot. I was the gamemaster and felt excited and well prepared for a round of GHOST/ECHO. Note #1: I love horror themed RPGs, but the one I picked isn't even as horror-like as e.g. Call of Cthulhu. Note #2: I would never ever ask a player who I know is mentally unstable to play a horror themed RPG.

We hadn't even started playing when one of my players said he couldn't play this game with us, because it reminded him of a mental health issue of a family member. He wanted to leave immediately, and I could tell that he was totally not okay. It was raining like crazy outside, so I grabbed two umbrellas and my handbag, told hubby to play something different with our group, and went outside with him. We walked and talked for hours. I felt extremely guilty for having triggered those negative feelings and because he had told our group about something he would rather have kept secret. In the end, I could cheer him up and we had some unexpected adventures while walking outside in the pouring rain (we witnessed a wedding ceremony, a boat race and a crazy party in front of a small shop). Hubby saved the day by playing a quick round of Rifts Chaos Earth with our Northern German friend and the rest of our group. In the evening, we all went out for dinner together.

Still, I felt bad. I might not be a gamemaster anymore for a while.
