I have tried rock candy once, as someone said, this would give you a nice taste...
put the rock candy between your teeth, bite it and than pour the whiskey through this crushed sugar on your teeth...

To shorten this.... don't try this at home. this is really disgusting

Rock candy does sound bad. But some types of whisky get better when you put ice in them and I had "Irish tea" (or whatever it's called) one winter- heated whiskey with tea and lemon and maybe other things... it was pretty good. I do prefer it neat though @Ipf

Hot works with "Irish Coffee", where I use "Jameson", cause it is cheap and tasty enough... haven't had "Irish Tea" yet, sounds interesting.

Same goes for cold: only as mix drink like "whisky cola" or "whisky sour", still with cheaper brands like "makers mark"...

BUT usually I am a purist and drink my whiskey at room temperature, what provides the best flavour...

Yay for a pain free forearm!

My first whiskey experience was with a really smokey one, that was very intense and I'm a bit afraid of whiskey since then.

Don't be NancyTree , there are so many delicious non -smoky whiskeys out there to try.

And even the smoky ones taste can have a very different taste...

Btw: Today, I feel more runover, than I felt hungover... glad I have planed a less intense workout today.

oh, can't remember when I had my last one, must have been over 4 years, at least...

I haven't had a drink since that night with the beers and email... I do plan to get a good lower mid range whisky (not whiskey) for yom kipur. It's a quiet protest against increasing religious dumb- assery. Also, there's really NOTHING to do that day and thay's without a lockdown...
My first whisky was at this bar my sister worked at (it actually included a lot of first alcoholic things). Our grandmother and our cat were both dying of cancer. When we got back home that night the cat passed away and our grandma a day and half afterwards.
