I've been avoiding my computer like crazy since the move in March simply because I am not wanting to fall back into technology/screen time habits and so far so good. It does help that I am starting to get busy again, but I sure do miss the Hive!!!
As far as what I've been up to well things are loosened back up enough here that I went back to BJJ at the beginning of July. Also, started Muay Thai though that is super casual with a max of 2 classes per week.
Now jiu jitsu is between 4 to 6 classes per week depending on if I do both Gi and No Gi with the occasion private session with the instructor thrown in there. Before everything shut down I was No Gi rolling only, but now I am Gi rolling as well and boy is that fun!
To top of everything for myself, I am doing a minimum 3 runs a week and lifting 1 to 2 times a week as well.
The other half quit smoking two months ago and asked to do a fitness program with me so I picked Hero's Journey in hopes it would help build the daily habit for him. It seems to have worked so far and we just finished it a week ago and are starting Power Cardio tomorrow. He started Muay Thai as well and wants to compete once that is a thing again so he needs A LOT of work on his overall cardio and endurance. After Power Cardio is Cardio Trim Run, one of my favourite programs here on Darebee
Maybe this return to the Hive will stick this time and I'm looking forward to reading through threads to see how everyone is doing! I do see a lot of notifications for playground challenges so maybe that is where I need to start first
Intended to start Ironborn with the other half this month, but between BJJ and Muay Thai classes it was too difficult to do it daily for the SO. He has never done any kind of weight lifting so I can't exactly leave him to his own devices as to prevent injury. So, we are doing Power Cardio instead since he's expressed the need to work on his cardio and endurance. Personally, I love this program, but he is less excited about it
I'm still getting around 3 runs in a week, with one of them usually being a trail run. I got some Vibrams in the Spring and so far I am really enjoying them, even if they do look odd. I call them my monkey toe shoes!
And in other super exciting news, I got my second stripe in class this week
BJJ was the best decision I ever made. Keeping me fit, keeping me sane, get to hang with some incredible people and I feel like a damn ninja!
Not sure if I will get back up to daily check-ins, maybe just focus on weekly ones for the time being.
Hope everyone is having a lovely day and is healthy + happy!
Several months have passed again and I make no attempts at any sort of promise of regular updates as I am obviously terrible at it
I've hammered through a fair few programs since the Fall - Cardio Trim Run again (still a fave), Iron Mode again, Spellbound, Ten, 60 Days of Cardio, Power Cardio again, High Gear, Zero Hero, Baseline and feel like I'm forgetting one, but I'm feeling lazy and not gonna check my physical log.
I haven't run much at all outside of requirements for a program or as part of warm-up in jits class. The biggest factor came down to enough time since I was prioritizing cardio conditioning (plyometrics) to long distance ability as that is more helpful to me when rolling at this point in time. Five minute rounds are feeling less and less fatiguing! Plus, it's cold, snowy and icy here now, so not running outside with all those not-so-fun things going on for the next few months
Here is what is happening with the fitness currently:
- I am going to BJJ minimum 3 classes a week and this includes an advanced class + positional sparring + open mat rolls. I got my third stripe about 3 weeks ago as well Perhaps be able to test for my blue belt right in the new year if this trend continues and another lockdown doesn't end up happening ***all of the fingers crossed***
- Doing an early morning HIIT class 2 - 3 times a week and at least one of these mornings I show up early to do some solo jits drilling + light rolling with the coach since we are both three stripes
- Just started a Push-Pull-Legs lifting routine and will do it for around 4-6 weeks depending on how the body is feeling and how motivated I am with it. It'll be a minimum 4 weeks regardless though.
- I'm trying to do at least one run or stationary cycle a week. This may increase, but it is time restricted at this point since my schedule is a touch all over the place.
- I am hoping to get back to one Muay Thai class a week, but I may wait on this until the new year simply because I am so focused on jiu jitsu. If I don't, then I'll add in some practice at home to be paired with solo jits drills
