I shared my story of Rondeau's Great Kiskadee with him and said I thought lots of birders would have a favourite bird or birds they'd want to have in their game, which would not necessarily be included in any official expansion (given there are upwards of 10K known bird species in the world). He told me Stonemaier doesn't have any plans to sell blank cards as of yet but that they might consider the idea in the future. He then said he would set up a form which people could use to suggest birds for future expansions--and he'd followed through on this within a couple of hours! There's no guarantee any of the suggested birds will be used, of course (there are a lot of Wingspan players out there and a lot of birds to choose from). But I figure it won't hurt to make a suggestion or two. (The Great Kiskadee is primarily a South American bird. So I'm definitely going to suggest it for the eventual South American expansion.) Jamey also suggested a way I could add my own cards to the Wingspan deck by sleeving all of the cards. I couldn't find any sleeves with opaque backs that are the correct size for Wingspan cards, however. I've ordered some Japanese-sized card sleeves, which are close, and will try them. If the sleeves I've ordered are too loose, I may try smaller, transparent-backed ones and just slip a piece of opaque paper into each sleeve behind the card. (I still think official blanks that could be customized with stickers would be a cleaner and easier solution. But I'm excited enough by the idea of customizing my deck to give this a try.)
Wow - that is awesome that he responded with the bird request form so quickly! It would be fun if they would release blank cards, but it is also great that they are open to suggestions from players for future expansions. The sleeve idea is interesting as well, although definitely more work for players than blank cards would be.

As a side note - if you want to see a magpie, Colorado is definitely a good place! They are probably the bird I see most often, as they tend to hang out in the trees outside my apartment.

Okay. I really need to start posting here daily again for the accountability. I'm not going to do a play-by-play for the past two weeks, as it would take me too long to get caught up and prevent me from getting back to a daily posting habit. But to summarize: I have worked out every day. But not as much as I would like to. I have been keeping up with my daily French study and also doing some work on the ornithology, but again, not as much as I would like. The literal part of the "work before play" rule worked well for me. But the second part of the rule? The part where I'm supposed to stop playing at 10 PM to ensure I will be in bed before 11? That part didn't go so well.

The last of the board games I'd ordered arrived, and because of Work Before Play I couldn't get into them until after 8 PM. Well, it takes a lot longer than two hours to unpack Scythe, set up the board, learn the rules for both human players and the Automa, and get through a game. And once I'd already lost half a night's sleep to doing all of that, well, I might as well stay up and try playing the game as a different faction, right?

Oi! This is why I have to have rules about this sort of thing.

So last weekend I changed the rules. The new rule is that I may not play games today unless I have completed all of yesterday's work and I may not play games any day this week unless I hit all of my minimum targets for the previous week. (I'm working with a Sunday-Saturday week here, not a rolling week, because a calendar week is easier to track.)

The change to the first part of my rule is to give myself a break because parts of my work need to happen in the evenings. If I have free time earlier in the day and cannot complete my work tasks at that hour, why shouldn't I use the free time as I like (so long as I get back to work when I need to)? Also, I hope to be gaming with friends (remotely) soon. I don't want to be always unavailable for their games because of arbitrary rules I've imposed on my own schedule when really my schedule should be one of the more flexible ones.

The second part to the rules change enables me to better schedule my time around projects which take more than one day to complete and also is designed to force me to stop blowing off GBOT. One of my minimum targets is that I must meet my GBOT goal at least six out of seven days. If I fail to do this, I am required to abstain from games for a full week.

I'm going to sign off for now, since I've only got 25 minutes left in which to make GBOT tonight. I already missed GBOT on Monday of this week, so I need to be good tonight so sleep_twitch can hopefully teach me how to play MTG: Commander next week.

I will try to post more tomorrow. But if you want to see stats, my spreadsheet here is up to date. My minimum weekly targets are indicated on the previous page (with the exception of GBOT, which is tracked on the Year 51 page).

Nice to hear from you again! You have done a good job of adjusting your rules so that they better serve your goals.

I will assume that mom is a part of all of that and that your workouts with her are continuing...? Glad you’re doing okay

Hi Mamatigerj ! And thank you.

I forgot to mention in my previous post that I also cleared a section of shelf space so that I can now game off of the floor. So I can play only part of a game and then walk away and come back to it later without worrying about my dogs stepping on the game board. (Except for Scythe which, sadly, is too large to play anywhere other than on the floor or our dining room table--but the dining room table is perpetually covered with my mother's junk and also is in the room in which she watches television pretty much all day every day.) But going forward I will be doing less solo gaming and more gaming with friends via Tabletop Simulator. So table space won't be an issue.

DorothyMH yes! We completed Hero's Journey on Friday!

Now we are starting on a new schedule which is a 7 day rotation and involves doing 5 different DAREBEE programs at once. I know this is not how the DAREBEE programs were designed to work. But I need to work within the limits of finding workouts which will push my mother to improve without being stuff she just cannot do at all, and I also need the workouts I do with my mother to not compromise my ability to keep up with the training I do on my own.

This is our new schedule, which we started yesterday (May 1):

                    Sundays:

                    Journey Before Destination
                    Back Pain Relief
                    Ankle Recovery
                    Wrist Pain
                    Hand Tendons

                    Mondays:

                    Upper Body Stretch
                    Combat HIIT
                    Better Balance
                    Talk to the Hand
                    Hand Tendons

                    Tuesdays:

                    Rotator Cuff
                    60 Days of Cardio
                    Sore Feet
                    Wrist Pain
                    Hand Tendons

                    Wednesdays:

                    Arms of Steel
                    Knee Saver
                    Better Balance
                    Talk to the Hand
                    Hand Tendons

                    Thursdays:

                    Arms & Shoulders Stretch
                    60 Days of Cardio
                    Ankle Recovery
                    Wrist Pain
                    Hand Tendons

                    Fridays:

                    1-Minute HIIT
                    Back & Core Workout
                    Better Balance
                    Talk to the Hand
                    Hand Tendons

                    Saturdays:

                    Posture
                    30 Days of Gravity
                    Sore Feet
                    Wrist Pain
                    Hand Tendons

My mother says she wants to keep working out with me every day, even once the pandemic is over and the seniors' centre re-opens. So I designed a program for us that will last for 30 weeks!
