    I love your pictures! 😊
And your toothpaste/duvet story! I have no patience at all while brushing my teeth, I am constantly walking around, petting my cat, trying to put on my pajamas (doesn't work), putting my phone on the charger (doesn't work), and so on. I've drooled everywhere ; the carpet in my bedroom, the floor, my toes, the kitchen...

      LOL NancyTree !

When I was at university I used to walk around when I brushed my teeth. I would use the bathroom to wet my toothbrush, then I would walk around the hall, waving good morning at my floor mates. After a while other people started doing the same, and every morning we had these gatherings of people in the hallways all communicating with mumbling, head nodding, and one-handed gesturing as we brushed our teeth! (We all had manual toothbrushes back then though, so there wasn't so much drooling.)

I am new to your thread...your mom did Journey Before Destination and Fireheart? What a badass! (You too, plus a 5k). So inspirational!

            Comment

Yes, CODawn ! She used to do exercise classes at our local seniors' centre. When the seniors' centre had to close due to Covid, I knew I had to do something to keep my mother moving. (I am happy to just go for a run in the woods. But my mother would spend the entire day in her La-z-boy in front of the television without an external push to get her going.) So I proposed that we should do DAREBEE workouts together. We started with Vitality -- and last March she was complaining about that. The exercises were too hard, "I'm not like you, Laura. I can't do that.", "That's not how we do it at the seniors' centre," etc. And now she's doing a Level III martial arts based program! She does the push-ups and planks inclined against our dining room table, and she uses a chair to assist with balance for some of the kicks. But she's doing it! (Ten months ago she told me she could not stand on her right leg, period. She'd injured her hip 5 years previously and that was it. She was never going to be able to bear weight on that leg ever again. Now we do workouts in which she is standing only on her right leg for as much as 90 seconds at a time.) She still complains sometimes. But she's worked out with me every day for over 300 days now. She'll be 80 years old in March. So yeah: she's pretty badass. (But now I'm stuck with working out with her forever because, while she will welcome the day when she's once again allowed to go out for coffee with her friends, she doesn't want to workout with them anymore because she recognizes "seniors" workouts are too easy for her now. )

Wow! Her progress is so awesome. It's great that you got her into working out with you.

                        Some birds from yesterday's hike:

                        Hairy Woodpecker (male):

4 views of a male hairy woodpecker, showing its long beak from different angles

Whirly in the above pick you can see a Hairy Woodpecker's long beak from a few different angles. You can also see well the black comma mark extending from the bird's shoulder onto its breast.

another view of the male Hairy Woodpecker, showing its split red cap

Not such great framing in the above pic, but you can see that the male Hairy's red cap is split down the middle by a black bar.

                        Downy Woodpecker (male):

two views of a male downy woodpecker

A cute little Downy Woodpecker with a dainty little Downy beak. No obvious comma mark (some Downies do display a comma mark, but it's usually not as obvious as on a Hairy) and the male's red cap is not split.

                        Belted Kingfisher (female):

two views of a female Belted Kingfisher perched on the roots of a downed tree at a lakeshore edge

I was proud of them for doing this big (11.4 km) walk with me PetiteSheWolf . Shelby is 10 years old, and Trudy is 12! When they first came to me, Shelby was completely out of her mind with anxiety anytime she was on a lead, and Trudy was so scrawny and weak she could not walk 1 km without lying down halfway through to take a break. Also: the first time I tried to take them on sand they both freaked out. But they are completely chill with it now.
