These numbers will start reflecting recent PRs soon enough.

      THANK YOU!

Thank you to everyone who helped me celebrate my 50th birthday by participating in my 50x50 workout and/or First Day Hike/nature experience. Thank you too to everyone who sent me birthday wishes. I had fun, worked hard, learned a new exercise, enjoyed a lovely hike in Rondeau, and overall had a great day! I took some photos on my hike, but have not yet had a chance to pull them off my camera. (My hard drive is full again.) I will try to get those posted tomorrow.

It is good to be 50 years strong!

I have decided this will by the first anthem of my 2nd half century:

Nope. I was supposed to do that yesterday. But I did not have time to take the pic with all of my other festivities.
I will try to get this done tomorrow.

I would totally be down for a DAREBEE couch surfing tour! (Once Covid is behind us.)

Some tests this morning to see where I'm currently at:

Flexed Arm Hang (underhand grip): 60 seconds = bona fide lifetime PR! (previous PR was 45 seconds, done when I was a scrawny little kid)
Negative Pull-up: 3 seconds = bona fide lifetime PR! (previous PR was < 1 second)
Push-ups in one set: 10 = not a PR, but all reps were done with good form

I expect I'm getting some assistance now from a pull-up bar which is easier to grip than bars I have used in the past. But I'll take it!
Lifetime PR for push-ups in one set = 30 (also from when I was a scrawny little kid). More recent best is 20ish (but not all done with good form). I'm going to take 10 as my starting point for this year and work on keeping all of my reps clean going forward.

The night before my 30th birthday I hosted a dinner party and, as per usual, offered crash space for any out of town guests who wished to stay over. My mother had loaned me a duvet to make up one of the beds, but she gave it and the duvet cover to me separately. As I did not own any duvets of my own, I was unfamiliar with the process of placing a duvet inside a duvet cover. Much hilarity ensued during my efforts to make up the bed for my friends.

When I had finally succeeded at the task, I reported back to my friends that their bed was ready for them, and I described the scene of 29-year-old me crawling around inside the duvet cover, propping the thing up like it was a tent and my head a tent pole, as I attempted to flatten out the duvet under my knees.

My friends laughed and told me I was simply too young. I would not learn how to use a duvet properly until I turned 30.

Of course, I thought they were joking. When I was 29, many of my older friends were fond of telling me I would not properly become an adult until I turned 30. But the next day, when I had turned 30, and my friends had left for home, I washed that duvet cover and put it back on the duvet before returning it to my mother. The thing fit like a glove, and the duvet fell into place inside of it perfectly smoothly on my first attempt--no trouble at all.

Cut to 20 years later: My dental hygienist finally badgered me into switching to an electric toothbrush a couple of years ago. I still don't like the thing. But I was secretly hoping that electric toothbrushes would turn out to be like duvets and that, once I turned 50, I would magically acquire the ability to use one without drooling toothpaste onto myself.

Sadly, it turns out that electric toothbrushes are not anything like duvets. (Or, if they are, the age at which I will magically acquire the ability to use one properly still remains out of my reach.)

                            Nice going on your PR's
I lean over the sink when I brush my teeth. Maybe you should try it.

                                But then how would I:

                                a.) dance?
b.) make hand gestures at my mother to try to get her to understand why I cannot in that moment respond to her interrogations?
c.) calm my dogs down when they are barking?
d.) go to the door to let my dogs in because they are outside and barking?
e.) go to my room to fetch whatever I've left there that I meant to bring into the bathroom with me?

Do other people really spend 2 minutes twice a day doing nothing but brushing their teeth?
