Thank you CaptainCanuck Trbrat75 Anek Whirly PetiteSheWolf TheLibrarian Fremen Zastria oneironaut @DorothyMH

The hospital did not admit my father today and are now releasing him this evening. He should hopefully be home in about an hour. (He has to use patient transport. I can only drive him places if he is in his wheelchair and well enough to sit up in it without flopping around. But he was taken up to the hospital this morning on a stretcher by EMS.)

I still do not know what is wrong. Well, I know that he threw up at 4AM this morning and at 5:30 AM and again at 8AM and he had pain in his lower back and wanted to go back to the hospital. But I don't know why he had any of those symptoms. Yesterday he seemed fine all day. And he did not have vomiting or back pain when he was in hospital last week with the cellulitis. The ER doc today seemed to be of the opinion that my father threw up because he was in pain and that the pain was caused by his MS. I am less convinced. He's had MS for a long time, and it's never manifested like this before. But he's coming home an hopefully will be okay this time.

Trying to tag DorothyMH again, because the tag did not work in my above post for some reason. Also, thank you to sleep_twitch and @AnnieW

(The Hive has been grumpy about me trying to tag more than one person in the same post lately.)

'Twas a cold wind blowing snow and sleet into my face as I walked to the post office this afternoon. But then I found in my mail box a beautiful painting of a German garden in the summertime, and everything seemed just a little bit warmer and brighter.

TheLibrarian please do thank your wife for me. I love it!

Mmm, kidneys maybe? Stone? Has he ever had one?

That's scary not knowing what it may be. Hugs and prayers for your father, you and your family.

DorothyMH he did have one for years about which the medical professionals kept saying "just leave it alone" until one day a couple of years ago when it caused a blockage which caused an infection which almost killed him. So they did check yesterday. Word is he does have a couple of "tiny" kidney stones which "aren't doing any harm".

I asked my father when he got home what he thought his diagnosis was. He said, "acid reflux", which he claimed the hospital cured by giving him salt. While GER could cause vomiting, I'm not clear on why it would cause lower back pain. The salt comment I'm fairly certain is born from my father's obsession that I don't feed him enough salt. (Our diet is not low sodium by any reasonable standard. We eat cheese every day! And my father consumes significantly more sodium than I do. He still eats potato chips, processed meats, factory-made cookies and commercially prepared meals, all of which I have not touched since I switched to eating only homemade at the start of the year. But there is no shaking him from his false belief that I am depriving him of needed salt.)

The back pain could be what they call “referred” pain. Hits a nerve in the area you’d expect, but then that grabs another one that goes to an adjacent area, so, “thru his body” to the back. They likely had him on an IV “with salt,” as in, a “saline drip.” They may have said salt water just to simplify it for him🙄🥴 Did they test him for GERD or start him on any new drug for it?
