Keto how do you do it?

I posted this in my check in yesterday and noticed this food section so I thought I would re-post it here.

[QUOTEIs there anyone out there who is tracking their Macros with a level of success? I have been trying a Keto version of 70% fat, 25% protein, and 5% Carbs. Without just eating a meat and Veg, I don't see how you can do it. Then they expect you to take a fat bomb to up the fat. It seems like carbs are in everything.][/QUOTE]

    Any advice?

Im not sure if you are using a food log or not, but the app LifeSum is my favorite for food logging. They have a free or premium version- I believe in the premium version, it will help you count macros. The premium version is $20 a year, which I thought was a pretty good deal considering what other apps charge. Sorry this isn’t really a definite answer, but it is a great app that may help!

I am not sure I reccomend keto unless you are VERY overweight/obese, and being large is significantly impacting your life/health. But, if it is....

Don't focus so much on %s. Focus on keeping net carbs (carbs - fiber) under 25g. Meat, non starchy veg, full fat dairy, eggs, limited quantities of nuts and berries. Fat bombs, bulletproof coffee, etc are unnecessary and keto bread replacements etc are just silly. (I lost 110lbs in 10 months doing that.)

'rin MeganL33 Thanks for the Ideas. I do use the app "Lose It". I was trying to figure out how to consume 1400 (70%) fat on a 2000 calorie per day diet. I'll rethink a plan around 25g net carbs. I can tell that pasta and bread are out of the plan. Once slice of bread is 13g and i haven't even looked at pasta. Gonna be tuff for someone who has grown up on Italian pasta dishes. That is impressive to lose 110 lbs in 10 months. Wow

Never done keto, but just reading 70% fat sounds like a world full of avocado, eggs, nuts, oily fish (salmon, sardines, tuna etc) and full fat dairy.
At 5% carb you aren't even going to be able to breath heavily over pasta. I wouldn't be able to eat my normal veggie intake on that (it would bump me to 30% carb apparently!). Mushrooms, spinach and zucchini are pretty low in carbs so you might be able to get 4c of cooked veg out of those guys in a day.
          Good luck!

HI BobzTime . I think you should consult a doctor and/or a nutritionist and not an app (premium or otherwise) or strangers in an internet-forum before succumbing your body to a potentially dangerous regimen like keto.
            Good luck

Thanks Io6 and Andi64 . I agree that what I initially tried appears to be a bit drastic. I think the balance lies somewhere in between. The last time I spoke to my DR, he was all about keeping Sugar out of my diet. I'm not the type who eats (or drinks) sugary stuff anyway. Before Covid, we ate out a lot (understatement), 4 to 5 times a week. I like the concept of limiting my calorie intake, and cutting down on carbs, and am trying to find that balance. Great conversation! I appreciate the perspectives.
