    LionTheFighter yeah, that would work.

Damer That makes sense now. I was trying to figure out how "hybrid athletes" train, and what kind of splits they use. All of them would have easy morning runs and then their strength workouts in the evening. And they would have long or race pace runs as single workouts. I'm trying to get the benefits of both, and I suspect I followed the wrong approach. I would do my bodyweight workout, and then I would go run a not-so-easy 5k. I'll change it now. I'll just do the day of a program the one day, and run the next. It'll take longer to finish the programs, but I guess it'll work?

LionTheFighter yes, it would work. But, really, unless you're training for a world-class triathlon you're over-thinking this. and end up worrying about it more than you should. Just move your body. Enjoy it. Be patient. Persevere. If you do this you always gain in the long run, regardless.

LionTheFighter Something else to ensure you do is rest and recover - read this. When you do strength training, you're tearing apart those muscles, so you need to allow some time for the muscles to repair themselves and become stronger, which is why there is normally a separation with weight training - legs one day, upper body the next; or the PPL pattern. That gives the muscles you have used on one day a day or two off to grow. So you might not want to do a hard run after leg day. An easy run might be better on that day because you don't want to be doing nothing, and active rest is way better than passive. Perhaps you might like to schedule something like a stretching day or a walk before a hard run day, followed by an upperbody strength day, and do easier runs a couple of times during the week.
