    Workout recommendations for someone with a hernia

    Hi there:. I have just been diagnosed with a mild hernia in my groin and I need to lose weight to help it. Any suggestions for great workouts from this site that would not cause further injury?

    What did the doctors tell you? Are there movements you're supposed to avoid?

      I have to avoid things that cause me to strain or increase the internal pressure in my abdomen. Sit ups are a no no, for example. Most activities including light weights are fine as long as I am not straining too much.

        Cardio would likely be more effective as a means of weight control and you could find forms of cardio that are low impact. Swimming is best but hard to find a place to swim these days. Walking is also good.

        Weight loss really starts in the kitchen though.
