    Elbow Popping During Push-Ups!

Hello, all, hope you're having a wonderful day out there! Just a question to see if anyone has experienced this or knows a good solution. As I am getting back into my fitness, I'm finding my left elbow is popping on every single pushup I do. This is on the decline portion and not the pushing back up part. It also doesn't seem to matter if it is a wall push-up, knee push-up, regular push-up, etc. It's not incredibly painful but does get uncomfortable as I'm nearing end of sets. Any thoughts on this subject? Thanks in advance for your wisdom!

A similar question was asked some time ago, albeit the last time the elbow in question didn't hurt or got uncomfortable. But maybe you'll find something in the old thread that'll help you. Here it is. In general, as long as it doesn't hurt it's nothing to worry over, more interesting would be what kind of uncomfortable we're talking about. For example, when I did a lot (heh, maybe 20) push-ups in a row, my left arm where I have the same popping/clicking in the elbow, starts to tingle or vibrate, hard to describe. It's nothing I couldn't push through, so I'm not overly concerned.

Thanks so much for the link to the definitely relevant discussion!! The article posted there was very helpful as well. The "uncomfortable" is a bit of aching but just a weird feeling that's hard to describe also (like it's grinding or something). I'm not in pain though and push through. Just didn't know if I was causing damage or if my body/elbow were trying to tell me something was amiss. Appreciate your feedback and sorry I missed the previous discussion!

That's nothing to apologise for, really. If you don't catch an earlier discussion you usually don't know that it even existed and I suppose most people don't keep every thread in their mind
Theoretically, you could use the search function to see if someone had a similar problem, but that can be kind of difficult if you don't find the right combination of words to look for. I'm glad that it helped you a bit

Are you certain that you are maintaining a good push up position throughout the workout? In the beginning I used to flare out my elbows too much and it started to hurt towards the end of the set as well. There are some good youtube videos that are very useful to learn the proper position. Additional benefit, a good push up position can also easily increase the number of push ups you can do in a set.

So I am not a physio or anything but a video I seen on YouTube by teamRICHEY had a similar topic with his knees.
The popping is an air bubble in the synovial fluid popping and is nothing to worry about.

The pain or discomfort could be improper form from flared elbows or unbalanced pushing, I dothis when I'm not focused and stagger my body weight to one side (left side for example will bear most of my weight).

That's my take, hope it helps. But obviously if you keep getting sore even after checking your form then seek professional advice.

Thank you for the thoughts on form and balance (all good suggestions) - I will be more diligent in checking and ensuring proper form and see what happens! I like the idea of being able to do more as well... ;-)
