Ironborn all exercises with same weight?

Hi.. I’ve just begun with Ironborn, my first serious attempt at weight training with dumbbells..a couple days back.. got myself a pair of 7.5kg dumbbells.. but there are certain exercises like lateral raises that I just can’t do with 7.5.. so I changed to 5kg ones for them.. and then there are bicep curls or both arms combined triceps extensions which seem too easy with 7.5kg.. so is it suggested to go through all of them with the same weights? Or should we mix and match the weights according to whatever’s comfortable with each Specific exercise?
    Thanks

I'm pretty sure I did Ironborn with whatever weight felt like the most I could handle on any given exercise. I don't know if it's recommended, but you aren't alone, at least.

The 7.5kg is a default value to start with, but it's almost obvious that the weight you can lift with your biceps is more than the weight you can lift with your shoulders, and also probably even more than with your back.

The thing is that not everyone can buy a whole dumbbell set, and Darebee tries to apply its workouts to that situation, but the ideal plan would be having a varied range of them.

So yeah, don't feel like you have to use the same weight for everything. The perfect thing would be adapting every single exercise to its maximum weight.

what I did was lower the weight for shoulder related exercises.. and go to failure on the last set with bicep curls and tricep extensions...
wherever I felt the exercise was easy I did the last set to failure..
There are farmer's carry for which even the 7.5 kg is very light.. I have used heavier weight for farmer's carry and deadlifts..

I did the entire program with 6kgs.. shoulder raises and some with 5kgs and deadlifts/farmer's carry with 10kg dumbbells in each hand..
Adapt the workouts to your best ability without injury.. thats the top priority..

Wait until you get to Express Tone! I just did a set of upper body exercises using 10lb weights and I was able to squeeze out TWO reps on the last set with the lateral raises!

            Humbling!

i suppose I could have used the 5lbs...but I stayed with the 10s

Salishsea Oh wait so is express tone a better program to be gaining muscle mass? I had to decide between the two and Ironborn sounded better to me 😂
do you suggest going on with express tone after finishing with Ironborn?

I liked Ironborn better, to be honest. Not a fan of the "reps to failure" part of Express Tone. And, I'm no kinesiologist, but, I think higher reps with lighter weight build tone, and fewer reps with heavier weights build mass, so maybe stay with Ironborn, and recycle it for a few months, increasing the weight every month...

Salishsea okay great thanks. That’s what my plan is. To stick with Ironborn for at least 3-4 months with increasing weights.. along with some cardio like running or cycling once every 2-3 days. Any suggestions on improving the ab routine on Ironborn? It sure tires out your abdominals but I find it a bit less effective than the ab training days on cardio trim run.

abj2aqua check out ab-exercises, and increase the level as you need or can manage..
and yeah, I would certainly recommend take a day after every 4 days and do something different like may be stretching or cardio or whatever you feel like..

I did Ironborn and also found that i needed to use drastically different weights to make it efficient. Imho especially leg days call for way more weight than you get from the experiment: do 20 alternating bicep curls.
For farmers walk i had more than 30kg on each DB. (I have some large plates lying around).
Bottom line: in my opinion you get the most out of ironborn if you adjust the weight such that the required reps are doable but hard to achieve.
Regarding XPress Tone: haven't finished it (approx 5 days left) yet but i also like it. You can do some exercises back to back. But for some exercises there is a change in weights necessary.
If you use demanding weights for XPress Tone it will be much more than just an add-on program.

old thread but I just want to add that this was also very apparent when I started Ironborn as well (that even though I could do the bicep curls when it got to the lateral raises it was just, nothing lol) so what I decided to do was stick to the lower end of the weights (I started with 6kg, that's what I could handle for the lateral raises) and every time I finished the program or it was too apparent that everything was easy now I just bumped the weight on the dumbbells and started over. After 2-3 months I was able to do the lateral raises with the maximum weight of my dumbbells (10kg)
Also, I always saw the farmer's walk as a "oh thank goodness" moment because I knew with such small weight, even at max it was easy peasy. Don't worry, I make up for it when I have to carry the groceries.
