    Side lunges

I had to do side lunges holding dumbbells in the Ironborn program. My knees and my back were suffering so I had to stop.
So I don't know if I have very weak knees (I know I have a weak back), if I'm not strong enough or if I'm doing them wrong, but the fact is I can't do them for now.

Do you have an idea of an exercise I could replace it by ?

    Hi Imoen

if you have a weak back moving on the side might be too much very quickly already unloaded... I would do reverse lunges with the weights and build the back with unloaded windmills

      Thank you xingyiquan
I'm already working on reinforcing my back and my abs (I'm also on the back & core program and hollow hold challenge).

I'll try the reverse lunges instead next time.

Two other alternatives can be: do the same exercise, without weights and increase the repetitions or use only one weight held in two hands close to the body, less off balance.
I did the same workout yesterday and I noticed that it bothered me in the back, I will have to pay more attention to the correct posture, I am not used to the unbalance given by the weights.

Fremen I see we're on the same Ironborn boat
I'll see how I feel next time, but today was too much discomfort for my knees and back to even try them without weight... and be careful with your back indeed !!

Perhaps it would be a good idea to increase stretching at the end of the workout

P.S. I checked, the side lunges are only there another time, on day 15

Side lunges are killers, I hate them.

What means I should do em more often...

I much prefer the cossack squats to the side lunges

Me, too, both get easier once you are more mobile in ankles, calves, hamstrings and glutes.

Fortunately, flexibility is my strength, a natural gift
In the side lunges I do not like the position of the foot of the elongated leg, if it is on the ground it bends the ankle too much, urging it, if it only rests on the heel it is worth doing the cossak squats

Well thanks guys, I didn't even know cossack squats existed !
I'll save them for (much much) later...
