    Hypermobility syndrome exercises.

    Hi All.
    My partner has hypermobility syndrome which basically means that the collagen that is meant to strengthen her tissues if different, and the tissues that are meant to make her joints stronger and support them are weak. She is allowed to do low impact exercises like swimming and cycling but was wondering if anybody knows of what other exercises/rountines that she could possible try?

    larney, she can possibly strength train with elastic bands or tubing, unstable surfaces like with a Bosu, or other implements like medicine balls and Swiss balls. Yoga seems like another option.

      Hey. I'll be speaking from my own experience.

      I have hyperextension in my elbows and some minor hyperflexion in my knees. When I was about 15yo, I went to see a personal trainer/physiotherapist (for weight loss reasons), and he said my elbows scared him (oops?). We used to workout on various machines, and after a couple of months there was some very noticeable improvement - my elbows extended way less and felt better.
      After dropping working out, it all went back to being "creepy elbows", and I've done yoga in such a state. The yogis told me to do what's comfortable and try and not go past the natural point of flexion/extension on all the joints. That helped a little.

      Though I do suggest the person go see a specialist (maybe a physiotherapist?) just to figure out what exactly they can and can't do. Maybe even teach them to do the exercises in a safe way, adapting each one to their specific condition. No one is against exercise.

          There's a personal trainer who has hypermobility syndrome ( Ehlers Danlos syndrome ) and he has some excellent tutorials for building stability and strength. Here is the link to the tutorial section of his website. The tutorials are step-by-step, and have regressions for absolutely every level. Most also have YouTube videos, which have him demonstrating the exercise and each progression/regression. No matter where your sweetie is starting, this should help out.
