Get into a push-up position and walk your hands out until they're set well beyond shoulder-width, fingers pointing slightly out. Keeping your body in a straight line, lower your chest toward the floor and press back up. The wide hand placement takes your triceps mostly out of the deal and hands the bill to your chest and shoulders - the same rep, taxed differently, and your chest will notice the difference by rep five.
Works: chest, shoulders, triceps, core
Breathing: Inhale as you lower, exhale as you press back up.
Common Mistakes: Setting the hands so wide the shoulders strain at the bottom, letting the hips sag as the chest fatigues, and cutting the depth short instead of lowering all the way.
Make Easier: Narrow the hand placement toward standard Push-Ups, or do them from your knees with the wide grip to groove the pattern.
Make Harder: Slow the lowering phase to a 3-count with a pause at the bottom, or alternate sets with Push-Ups - Close Grip to work both ends of the grip spectrum.
