The Plank Workouts Collection brings together every plank and plank-based core routine in the DAREBEE database in one place. Planks are the most efficient way to train the deep muscles that stabilize your spine, and they ask for nothing but the floor and a few minutes. Whether you want a quick daily core routine, a dedicated stability session, or a way to build up to holding a solid plank for the first time, everything you need is here.
Planks work differently from crunches and sit-ups. They are isometric, which means you hold position under load rather than moving through a range. That makes them exceptional at building bracing strength, shoulder stability, postural control and core endurance - the qualities that protect your lower back and make every other exercise you do safer and more controlled. They are less effective at building abdominal muscle size, which is why planks work best alongside loaded ab training rather than in place of it. If visible abs are your goal, pair this collection with the Abs Training Plan.
Pick a workout that matches where you are right now and hold good form throughout: body in a straight line, hips level, midsection braced, breathing steady. A plank ends when your form breaks, not when the clock runs out - a shorter hold done well beats a longer one done badly. If a full plank on the floor is not accessible to you, place your hands on a chair seat, a table edge or a wall instead. The higher the surface, the lighter the load, and you can lower it as you get stronger.
